- A burned down home in Long Beach has neighbors worried after squatters continue to loiter and trash the property despite it being closed off. Mekahlo Medina reports for the NBC4 News on April 26, 2024.

You don't say! Squatting is *NOT* a right -- it's a crime. The solution is prison. How is this even debatable?
Because its the owners fault for not doing anything, and squatter law works if you stay there for 5 years + and upkeeping the house. Unless the judge is beyond stupid the owner would win. And theirs really nothing you can do to the squatter because they dont have money and dont provide much use in prison, unless they you try create a new law to outlaw lazy people nothing will ever change

@DemPilafian no, that why if the homeowners wanted to, they could go to civil court and get rid of them, the home owners will win, and the homeowners could also sue for property damage but nothing would come out of it because there bums with no jobs no money, and jail is overcrowded and would be release early

It's obviously an elderly person that owns it, if they are the original owners of a 1930s home and their spouse is listed as deceased. If they don't live there themselves anymore, they are probably in an assisted living facility/ senior home. The city fining them isn't helping anyone. How does a little old lady/man get past the squatters to do repairs if the city can't even force them out. The owner obvious need help from the city, not harassment.

Why wouldn't they just let the city do it? If they cared they wouldve clean it up already. Why does it take a tragedy or a news report to happen before the city gets involved?! Ridiculous!

Yes, that is what happens all the time, squatters move in empty houses or businesses and then fire brakes out for unknown reasons.
