Garnt wanting lore before finishing a game/story is basically him setting the plot to be like Fate.
Are you surprised?
still waiting gigguk with trails update
Garnt not completing OG 7 n play remake but not connecting with any of the characters really scream skipping Fate Route n go straight to UBW 😂😂😂
@@ryansusanto6350 I think i heard from one of his Honkai stream that he tried the first sky game but couldn't get into the combat, not sure if he drop it yet but he wasn't very positive about it

He is a walking clown. I guess lives up to the trash taste channel name though lmao
And he didn't even play the OG but the remake which is a sequel lmao

@@SPREET5454idk why its confusing. He clrly doesn't enjoy the turn based combat of FF games. He enjoys star rail and persona combat so his issue is clrly with FFs system alone.?
Garnt's boredom, commitment, and engagement in something looks like an adhd problem.
True lol, cause I have exactly the same issue
Probably true, but ff games do become repetitive and are quite slow at least the turn based
i mean he has adhd, he mentioned it before
Yeah as an adhd person I relate so much to him. I haven’t opened my games in MONTHS now cause they are just… not it anymore. The way we go from obsessed to bored randomly is so annoying.
Honestly don't blame him. FF games are really long, and grinding just isn't fun. Bravely Default made it a little easier by letting you increase encounter rates and auto battle, but then you end up grinding so far past the enemies that it has no challenge.
They truly lived up to their channel name. Each of them have their unique trash taste lmao. I guess Grant basically said he wants the entire lore of a game shoved into his throat before actually playing it is fucking gold
Tfw you actually have more respect for Connor than Garnt on a JRPG take. 2023 sure is a weird year.
Connor speaks facts about video games, except for the "skip the cutscenes" part
Connor's been a surprise with how he's grumpily gone through jrpgs and... been like... yeah i like it hahaha
>”Chrono Trigger had a battle system unlike any other Final Fantasy.”
>The ATB system was introduced in Final Fantasy 4, 4 years earlier than Chrono Trigger.
Also Chrono Cross is the “sequel” not Crusade.
The fun part of Chrono Trigger wasn't the ATB part, it was the positioning based combat, which is fairly rare when it comes to JRPGs.
I think its the combination of atb, position based combat, and no transition screen.
Ff7 is very deep, you just have to play through the whole story. The entire mindfuck that cloud goes through is insane and this makes his character very reasonable and important to me.
Or, you know, more than three hours.
@@EionBlueToday's generation wants instant takes on things. They just can't let things soak in, the moment a game starts they want it to be as hype as people said or its overrated mid trash. 1 hour in they need to know the entire story...if they play more and the story isn't mindblowing then its bad. It's the equivalent of...i watched 1 episode of one piece...when does it git gud. You watched .05% of a story...or 3 paragraphs of a 100 page book and said you don't know whats going on or like the characters as much as people who read the entire thing...so its bad and overrated. I get it though these days were all pushing to get the newest cool thing in our minds and move on. We want to know all the good stuff cause we feel like we watched all the good stuff or played it all so that thing you like so much...cant be that good. Its new. Also people who tend to push the narrative that slower games=bad aka pure stealth, turn based RPGs, and force devs to stop making those games make me sad. Sometimes I don't want a dark souls or devil may cry or call of duty like pacing, sometimes I wanna relax on a sunday morning and get engaged with a story that's not moving a mile a minute to ensure I don't go on tiktok breaks to watch way more boring videos but I keep clicking cause their short.
The problem is that FF7's entire story spans several games and platforms (I'm going to include Dirge of Cerberus in it too because of Sephiroth's story, fight me) and would take a decently long time to even get through it all without watching some "TL;DR" documentaries from people on YT. I love FF7, it is one of my favorite stories of all time; Cloud and Zack are my heroes.... but holy shit imagine being new getting into it. You'd take forever to get through every single piece of media and that's why I can almost never recommend it.
It's the same reason I can never recommend the .hack// series despite loving it.
@@JoshuaGraves113 To be fair, this isnt the perfect example. But I know I got into mass effect when all the games were finished. No waiting years or hearing how the ending is this or that and all the build up and head canon endings ruining my experience. Beat it in a summer week all 60 hours. It was great. Wish I had all the DLC at the time, but I don't mind. SOme wont mind not getting all the story or just watching a youtube. Its how much you also put into trying to enjoy something that people forget. Go into it folding your hands and saying when does this get good every few minutes is how many come to hate things that are popular and some how get guilty pleasures from things people say are bad. Its like how I see the take for say naruto is way more positive now that people can binge and skip around or how people tend to hate an arc of a series that slows down in a comic but on reread enjoy it. I expect one piece will be a lot different when the entire series is out and the incessant claims to read the 1500 chapters will annoy people but an end will be palatable. Going into things worried if it's too much of a good thing is setting you up for failure or saying you don't get why people like X characters so much...just engage with it and the love should come, if not you can tell people forever how bad it is...but be content in your not saying that then questioned and claiming you only engaged in 1% of the material.
The remake?

oh boy, thank god Joey’s in this conversation to be the voice of reason.
Not a sentence I expected to hear AND agree with, but here we are...
@@EionBlue tbf Joey still said some wrong things like Chrono Trigger being the first JRPG with a turn based combat system that was like real time action, even though FFIV had the exact same combat system apart from the dual and triple techs.
I guaranteed garnt doesn’t understand the combat at all. This man struggled with the orbment system from Trails a system inspired by the material system of ff7
Maybe it's not a matter of understanding and much rather a matter of enjoyment or the lack there of. I totally get his viewpoint. Turn based combat is a lot less engaging than some sort of action combat (or at least a very different form of engaging I don't find engaging at all)
@Noel_Tamura you just disproved your own point in one comment. Do you always talk in circles that don't lead anywhere?
FF7 isn't difficult at all.
@@patrickmcpartland1398why are you so mad

11:24 -11:26 It's Chrono Cross. Chrono Crusade is a manga series. Also pretty sure FF7 Remake is action jrpg not a turn based one. It has selectable commands like one, but it is ultimately action based. I think Grant is the under impression of the FF games giving instant answers or gratification as to what each character's deal is from the outset. Hence why he likes Barret cause most, (but not all), of his motivation & quirks are up front and center. Everyone else has a slow buildup into their overall characters.
Should make you notice who poor his takes ate thought out elsewhere.
yeah.. its really hard to describe why Cloud and Tifa are great without spoiling the biggest twist in the game
He also said Chrono Trigger had real time combat which isn’t true. The thing that made CTs turn based combat unique was that encounters could be avoided and battles took place without a screen transition. Classic Joey
@@187Wretched He's not technically wrong, Chrono Trigger introduced Active Time Battle where enemies can hit you and move around even if your turn is already up
Garnt: "when does cloud become interesting?"
This blows my mind considering Cloud is up there in terms of the most complexity in video game fiction.
Maybe it helps that I've actually finished a game, though...
The story behind cloud is DEEP. The best written character.
I love how Connor right off the bat called out Cloud... jokingly referring to his character having dementia or something weird
Probably cus he's pretty boring in the early game.

Yeah he doesn't like spontaneity either
@@corrinflakes9659 Gambling!!
There's a difference between normal trash taste and rather blatantly lying about FF's turn-based systems saying Chrono Trigger did it first.
The first game I ever remember playing where it wasn't strictly turn-based but had the bars that filled up and you had to select an action under time pressure, lest enemies get additional hits in before you do yours, was Chrono Trigger. The next game I played that did that was FFX2. Maybe older FF games did it first, but if I asked other people, they'd cite Chrono Trigger as the first they could remember, as well. At worst Joey's understandably mistaken, not lying.
@@William1w1 Joey literally has played 6 which had the atb system and released before chrono trigger thats not "understandably mistaken". If you don't know what you are talking about then stop talking about it
Thinking back I think part of Cloud’s appeal at the time was that he was not the usual plucky everykid.
He was a soldier with skills and an air of indifferent confidence, which definitely appealed to me as a teenager back then.
One thing I remembered thinking was cool was how in the tutorials things were not explained to Cloud, but rather, he would explain things to Avalanche. It basically said, “You’re not playing as some kid with a sword this time. You get to start off as a badass.” Of course after that happened, we got a whole bunch of other brooding edgy protagonists and then it just started to get stale.
also peopel kinda forget what Cloud's personality is actually like. He's not as brooding and edgy as future versions of him are. he, like, actually makes JOKES. he does SILLY THINGS.
@@sarafontanini7051 I legit blame the "brooding edgy kid" misconception on KH and Advent Children granted he didn't have room to be goofy in the latter but its still unfortunate
@@sarafontanini7051 Indeed. Cloud's a massive dork that, if you get to see his interactions, is actually just trying to be the cool 90s anti-hero while still being one too. Even Barret has a bit to say about his act when he corrects Cloud that he was asking for his age, not his "goddamn rank".

He has the worst takes on gaming. Calls himself a huge JRPG fan and then drops a "I hate turn based combat" like 90% of them aren't that combat style, bro is there just to watch a movie and for the lore... Also his takes on FF characters is abysmal.
@@closetBK1350Literally only the first three games are strictly turn-based, it's wild to think all of FF is like that.
Honestly Og VII isn’t grindy at all, like the only time I think I grinded was in the temple of the ancients just because bahamut could exp farm easily there.
Grant has no idea how deep FFVII characters actually are. And he never will, since he'll never finish it. xD
Kinda sad seeing Grant wanting instant gratification.
Playing the older games with a show or podcast or music playing is excellent. I usually use a walkthrough because I hate getting lost or turned around especially in old games where that can cost you tons of time. I played through all of FF1 one weekend listening to Dungeons & Daddies
100% agree
I’ve never tried that before, might have to try it. Usually for me I need to be locked in and 100% immersed to get the most enjoyment out of games but maybe I only feel that way because that’s the way I’ve always been and I’ve never really tried to stray from my comfort zone
What!?
Dude FF1 also just rocks in retrospective. IDK what it is but a solid JRPG that can be done in 20 hours just hit that sweet spot.
Don't ask me about FF2 tho, Just, no.
@@NrettG man I’m halfway through FF2 and struggling to finish it lol I’m so excited for all the games after it, especially 6 and onward. I’ve only ever played a bit of 7, 14 (mmo one), and 15 before starting to go through all of em this year.
I swear those who register their times on howlongtobeat must be elite gamers because it takes me far longer to beat games
thats actually a really good saying by Garnt "The World should exist even without the main story" thats a really good saying about world building in a game.
Sounds like a skill issue
🤓
I’ve finished FFI and FFIV. Turn based combat is really fun imo, and I’m in the middle of FFVII and Dragon Quest III, but I’m almost done with the latter, but all of my JRPGs on my brother’s switch which is at college.
Which version would you recommend for DQ3? I've been interested for a while but don't want to spend the full $50 on DQ11 yet.
@@NrettG I would say that the SNES version is the best version of the game. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have an official release but the closest is the Gameboy color version and the switch/Mobile version. I think the Mobile version looks fine, but it has artwork for the enemies instead of sprites, and they aren’t animated like the SNES version. It is closer to the SNES remake than DQ1 and DQ2 on mobile are, but I would look at it if it looks okay to you. If you are okay with emulation there is an English patch for the Super Famicom/SNES version, but I know that not everyone is open to those.
Connor telling garnt to finish a jrpg? Am i in the twilight zone?
If they like world building and good story, they really should give FF14 a try. It's a hard sell because of the time commitment but as many others can attest, the payoff is well worth it.
I know Garnt played it but I assumed he stopped at some unknown point in time. Here is my vouch for the Trash Taste gang (and anyone else for that matter) to give FF14 a fair try. It's a rpg first and mmo second. And it tells one of the greatest story I've ever experienced in any medium (not just games).
After Connor's stream with his mods, I don't think he will
Basically the One Piece of MMORPGs
I played like an hour but unfortunately found it boring
Funny thing is they actually talked about this in another podcast and Joey forbade Garnt from playing FF14 because it would destroy his social life or something.
@@LoneWolfOtaku I don't think this is exactly true with Endwalker. The devs/writers made it so if people wanted to stop at Endwalker, they could. It ends in a way that could be an actual end. Yea if you think SUUUPER hard about the plot and are obsessed with it, you will see some holes that are most certainly going to end up as future plot points, but it still works as an end nonetheless.
cant lie i be doing that too 😭 im like halfway thru ff1(nes),almost done w ff4(snes), a couple hrs in ff5(gba), and a lil bit into ff3(psp) and ff7 😅 at a certain point i just dont feel the need to keep playing it at least atm 😭
This ain't it Garnt. On the flip side, I respect the dedication to the "Trash Taste" brand
As wrong as Garnt is, I'm happy to see the universal respect put on Chrono Trigger.
If Garnt gets bored on turn-based combat, he won't last playing the Trails series. That series takes a lot of commitment because you've got 12+ games to play to catch up.
It's not about turn based combat then clearly. He finished p5 so the difference is obviously that he doesn't enjoy FFs combat. Not turn based as a whole.
So how is Garnt ever going to get trough Trails like this?
Didn't he finish Trails in the Sky FC, and then bought all the other games in the series right after? ^^;
Not everyone is gonna vibe with how FF7 unfolds its story but calling the characters bland is wild to me. Cloud and Tifa are easily amongst the most complex characters in the game but you have to unfold that through the narrative. The way FF7 unveils its story is genuinely masterful. I can understand the desire for a story that hits you fast (especially in the age of steaming where most shows just release a whole season you can binge), but I personally think people would enjoy stories more if they were told in a more digestible manner. That could also just be my nostalgia for the late 90s/early 2000s talking though.
Wait Garnt hates turned based combat? Hasn't he played both Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royale to completion?? lol
The worst thing is that final fantasy 7 remake isn't even turn-based combat game :v

I'm currently playing FF9 for the first time on a Playstation emulator and the best thing is that the emulator has a speed up/fast forward function.
I can speed up battles, travelling and even loading screens with the press of a button. I honestly don't think I could cope if I had to play it normally.
It's a great game though, I'm really enjoying it!
FF9 was particularly bad for its battle start times. The PC version made it better I think, but on the original PS1 it could be a good 20-30 seconds from getting an encounter to seeing the command menu. Even worse if you were playing on PAL instead of NTSC. Besides that, FF9 is an excellent game, glad you're enjoying it :-)
I can imagine how prozd disgusted face when he hear this LMAO
The remasters have a fast forward option which makes everything faster. You can even use auto battle with it too.
In my case without counting spin-offs I've only finished Final Fantasy 9. Because I've always ended wanting to complete some of the sidequests like getting all the secret weapons before actually fighting the final boss, but it is so time consuming I've always leave there. And at least FF4 I've got stuck on a boss.
Garnt's opinions always tried to be edgy or something sounds epic but end up being generic ones.
Kind of curious if Garnt actually kept playing the Trails of games or if he dropped. A shame if he did dropped I must say. Last time we heard him talk about it he was close to finishing Trails in the sky SC I think.
Yeah all of those games are turn based like is he there just for the lore maybe???
@@closetBK1350 Yeah that’s the thing. I know he ain’t the biggest fan of turn based combat so hopefully the lore is enough to keep him going with the games.

Some people ask Garnt on stream occasionally, a while ago he said he finished SC. He seemed to like it a lot, but he also said he is going to leave it there for a bit. To be fair, SC has a pretty satisfying ending and he has been really busy lately so it is a good place for a break. I do hope he gets around to the 3rd eventually!

Crono Trigger uses an ATB system. First used in FF4. Hiroyuki Ito designed it.
The only difference is presentation. Crono Trigger innovated on same screen battles and position based combat.
The problem with ff7 remake is that it only covers the first 5 or 6 hours of OG, and its drawn out to 20 od hours, and it was only once you got out of midgar where the characters started to see some development.
So i undersatnd the sentiment of "when do they get interesting?" For the remake. Because they really dont and thats what im hoping ff7 rebirth does for all of the characters.

FFT? Though I guess that's also turn style and much more of a grind
I can relate. Imagine trying to get a friend into a series and telling them it gets good 1 or 2 seasons worth of hours in. Until then, you're getting fed crumbs of lore, loose backstories, and other uninteresting side stories, some of which makes no sense because you don't have the full picture. @@ivnightclaw8663 I agree with liquid. FF in all it's incarnations has been outstanding and has deserved it's legendary reputation.
Just gotta say that in-game encyclopedias are one of my guilty pleasures. I totally understand the idea of the world being more interesting than the story being told. I think games shouldn't rely too heavily on in-game "wikis," but overall, it definitely helps me feel more immersed as well. It's not necessary, and can be done in different ways like side quests, flavor text on items, etc., but generally I think a game should at least have some kind of extra world-building for the people that actually want to know about the history of the world outside of the story's context.
5:55 oh boy do we tell him. It's as convoluted as fate. Especially if you go into sephiroths first team. Derge of Cerberus. Original VII. Crisis core. Advent children. VII remake. Crisis core reunion and reberth.
the reason why FF7 is my favorite FF is because it's the first FF that i played since it was the first one that got released in europe... if you ignore final fantasy mysthic quest but even then that game was called mystic quest legend in europe... so it's not even connected to the name here
Coming here with a well actually but I can't hold my tongue.
Chrono Trigger was not the first game with a real time~ish battle system. If we talk about Active Battle System specifically that honor would go to Final Fantasy 4 which was released 4 years before chrono trigger. Not even talking about ATB we got Secret of Mana which was released 2 years before Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana 2 which released the same year as Chrono Trigger. I also want to shout out the Terranigma and Tales of Phantasia which are not as talked about and both released the same year as Chrono Trigger and both had very impressive battle systems.
If I were to describe what sets Chrono Trigger apart from other SNES era JRPGS. I would say that that game is the final love letter to the JRPG SNES era and that it builds on everything that came before it. At this point the Playstation has already been released. For some reason Chrono Trigger broke trough and saw success where tons of other late era SNES games were forgotten.
As for things that make it unique when it comes to the battle system I would point to.
* No screen transitions for combat. This is a bigger deal then it sounds like. The random encounters never feels like filler when they are actually out there on the map.
* Combo Techs. that is special attacks that involves multiple party members. It took until Final fantasy 9 until we saw that mechanic in a game again.
Then of course the theme of the game is very unique. And the game truly looks and sounds amazing. Truly a wonderful game.
Garnt, try to go to ADHD therapy and maybe try a medication and see if you suddenly can finish a game. I’ve also not opened my games in MONTHS! And I’m going through titration now.
All of them bar XI for me, though I've tried that several times. I don't like to leave a game unfinished, unless it's truly terrible.

What you do is you play the first FF game and slog your way through it to see what makes the other games so great. If you can force yourself through NES turn based combat, you're really up to the task of finishing any turn-based RPG.
Funny enough, I actually like FF1's magic system and the game the most. I wish more games had the mana level system instead of the mana gauge. Also even though it dated, something about it just feels perfect to me. But nothing can top FF4 for me. Can't wait to play the others.
So i can say this about ff7 that i dont think will translate well to the remake until all 3 parts are released. FF7 is a mystery story above all else, and the characters become more into their own as that mystery is unraveled.
So if you dont like the characters in part 1 alot of it due to alot of information about them is purposely being held back because of the msystery. Then it could come off as them being more just slughtly above bland to some.
While i understand there is no way to remake FF7 on a large scale in a sungle devolpement cycle. The multi part release is honesty a big drag on what makes the story, and the characters great.
Especially since in some ways the remake is technically a sequel. But thats more spoilers i wont go into.
Garnt NAILED it. Cloud has the personality and charisma of a fucking rock.
Also I disagree with Joey. I started the FF7 remake dlc and Yuffie is actually so annoying to me that I can't get myself to finish it.
I do see the appeal of Tifa though. She's not only best girl personality wise, aesthetically she's also levels of WOW.
Final Fantasy 7 doesn't need any grinding at all.
My favorite FF game is FFTactics, but Xenogears is my favorite JRPG of all time.
Hey guys, you really should give FF7 more of a chance! Right now I think the issue is that in Remake part 1, it's largely focused on the conflict with Midgar and it's residents. You don't get to find out about Cloud and Tifa's past until later, but it's phenomenal. They're the best written Final Fantasy characters bar-none!
8 is the only FF that does that confusing shit with the menus. Every other one for the most part is very straight forward
Vlll is just straight up Nomura confusion on all levels lol. Vlll stumbled so that Kingdom Hearts could walk.
that's what happens when you judge a franchise on two games, one of whch being considered the weirdest entry in the main series.
That's why ff12 is my favorite, it's got that hybrid system that's turn based but really not
Crono trigger and crono cross my guys
FFXVI sidequests pick up much better later. Early sidequests àre filler but eventually they turn into their own little mini arcs. Some of which are really solid.
Am i so weird for reading every book i came across in Witcher 3. It was the only game in the series i played.
Nope
8:00 Cloud's character is kind of purposely a 'blank sleight'. both meta-wise, and narratively, so while he isn't THAT interesting, it works because it's actually a plot point (much later on in the story). you have to pay attention to little things he does to extrapolate from his inner personality, and in doing that you can find something extremely relatable.
FF7 remake does a great job of giving him even more small moments to showcase this inner personality so that by the end of it you can get what he's about and like him, but it still lacks the full story- and as such there a part about these character's characterizations missing in remake, things that the original gets into much later on after leaving Midgard, on basically what is the start of the 3rd act of the game when it comes to Cloud.
it's a journey, but if you are curious why you don't like him yet, it might be cus you are missing the point of his character, because the story only hints at it at the start, slowly gets into it by the 2nd half, and starts to REALLY get into it by the 3rd end. manage your expectations still, I really like cloud but he isn't for everyone, you'll still get the sense that he is a bit of a 'blank' character for you to put yourself on and fill in some blanks(hence many moments of 'choose his dialogue').
it might seem drawn out, but I personally like that the game's plot is somewhat linked to the characters and so their stories and personalities are unfolded closer to the end.(with most side characters having their stories unfolded and told through-out half of the game in their 'portions'/segment of the original. so yea- if you want colorful characters from the get go, most likely you are always gonna like them more then Cloud sense their whole deal is more direct and explored earlier. Barret being the prime example of this, his story and character is the most focused one on the early game. )
Side note/advice for anyone :
If you could get past the graphics, the story is still best experienced in the original first. (best way to play it would be with a CRT-like screen, the 'jarring 'sharpness' on the character models of the PC/modern ports are significantly better with the original 'blurry effect' of older tv's; hence why I think everyone remembers them much more fondly- it's not just nostalgia, the medium they where played on also worked with those outdated graphics. if you manage to have a direct ps1 game port on a PSP, that is probably the best experience you can get imo, but honestly- just anything that isn't a modern port on a regular screen, the blurriness of old tv's/screens gives it a lot more charm and really puts you back to how people experienced it back in the day.)
I mean... you don't get to truly see Cloud's personality even in 7. You need to play the others games as well to truly see his personality shine. He's the best protagonist and super relatable.
@@JoshuaGraves113 i see what you mean and sort of agree, but 7 does plenty with minor dialogue moments and the way it delves into his psyche by the 3rd act.
spoilers:
You get more of his raw self in Crisis Core, no 'first-class Soilder badass facade' or mako poisoning identity lost(yet still a rooted need to fit in and be "the hero" like those he admires despite his innate awkwardness), but even in 7 you get a good chunk of 'real cloud' moments, they are riddled around fake memories and thoughts, dialogue options that argue with each other/reject the player choice, but even that is pretty well explored with the 3rd act rescue mission with him and tiffa and you can define Clouds character within all of those moments.
It's just a lot more straight forward in other games before the incident. but i like the nuance/subtlety of it in 7(which is also well done in remake), because i consider the 'blurriness' of it all to also be a major part of his personality [which was rooted in his years as a shinra "foot soilder"/"nobody", as well as his childhood in a 'nowhere' town where he wasn't popular or special, and it all contributes to the person he is in all of 7.]

Garnt....Cloud being an insufferable twat in the beginning is a legit plot point in the story later on. I think the thing that really hinders FF7 remake is that it has a TON of nods to the original and time fuckery. You could check out FF7 Machinabridged from team fourstar if you want a fun time getting the story ropes.
I can't imagine not finishing a game after I paid for it.
The problem with FF7R is that it’s only the midgar section of the game (the first 3 hours of the original). I like the game but they PADDED the shit out of the game with filler. The characters seem uninteresting because it’s so early in the main story
plus its NOT a replacement for the original game, tis mroe like a stealth sequel
Garnt talk about liking the world building and reading lore but did he actually read those lore book in genshin lol
"I have finished ZERO FF games" - Garnt
Me: Ooook, then I'm just not going to take w/e you have to say seriously. How can you judge something when you haven't seen a single game through?
He can judge it by not having the interest to play through it, if you have to spend 15 hours on a game to know if you like it or not, that's a problem for most people
For me,
8 is the best one.
10 I'll put at 2.
7 I'll put at 3.
Haven't gotten at 16 yet.
So the last FF to have the traditional Turn based System is 5 and even then it's one of the fastest to be beaten just because blue magic is OP. Maybe the only reason why i prefer older Titles is because i like grinding and not dying to a random Exdeath's soul or something
The last FF to have traditional turn based was *3.*
4 started the ATB system.
@@UltimaKeyMaster Oh yeah forgot 4 introduced.
Actually the last one to have a traditional Turn based system was 10. It did not have the ATB system.
@@marshallseldon4200 10 didn't use the same system 1-3 did. It had an initiative system.
@@UltimaKeyMaster I just looked it up and that is something you can add to a weapon to increase a preemptive strike. It literally says it has the conditional turn based combat similar to 1-3.
Joey on old ff7 damnn
yyyyyyeah, one does not simply "take a break" from a jrpg. at least unless it's an MMO.
You'll never get back to it if you do, no matter how good it was.
Turn based combat is fine for me, probably cause im used to it. But the RPG combat where you stand and wait for the bar to fill so you can do an action? It bothers me. I dunno, I just feel like a sitting duck, and it kinda puts me off. Most likely cause im just not used to combat like that.
It took me 29 hours to complete FF7, including the optional endgame bosses, and 35 hours to complete the main story of FF8, with some time spent on Triple Triad. The games aren't that long.
Wtf, I'm at 70 hours in ff8 and took me 90 in og ff7 playing em for the first time. Are you using guides or played the games several times and know exactly where to go?
@@alphakowaclipsjust playing normally lol. After 90 hours in FF7 you should have the game completed 100% and some time left over.
Honestly I respect that. I love old school JRPGs but man do I ever find the ATB dull. There’s no clever way to really engage with the combat, most of the non-damaging spells like debuffs are useless, it’s just boring. All the ATB bars do is make you wait an arbitrary number of seconds before you can take your turn.
