When I was in the US Navy, I visited a island called Crete in the Mediterranean sea. It was one of the poorest locations I've ever seen. People huddled in t loosely fabricated tents made of old rags, sown together to make a wall for 4×8 ft tents in freezing winter temperatures. Word of caution on the maple syrup: the large plastic bottles are almost always high fructose corn syrup with caramel coloring. The actual (and relatively healthier) maple syrup is often either a smaller glass bottle or non-transparent bottle, often sourced from our northeast states or Canada. Best to read the ingredients to check.
And yes, there's a taste difference, too.

The only decent syrup is the Log Cabin, no high fructose corn syrup.
Actual maple syrup is delicious & better for you since it's naturally sweet with a few minerals.
Mom told while she was on her honeymoon in '72, they stopped at a farmers market type place some state in New England, they were selling gallon size jugs for 6.00. In today's money is about 44.00.
There was a lawsuit filed against food manufacturers from maple syrup producers for using "maple" on their labels since there wasn't any maple syrup in it. They relabeled it as syrup or pancake syrup.
Last year, I lucked out at Walmart finding on their clearance shelf quarts of maple syrup for 5.00 each. Sadly, I only bought 2. 🙁

Obviously online makes it easier too, not sure if everything Walmart sells is posted online, but I personally know competitors that have gone to Walmart just so they can match prices on product..ie they go into a walmart, write down all the prices, and then the next day they lower their own prices and run an ad showing that their prices are cheaper than Walmart's.

Thanks for the reminder that the “chore”’to us that is shopping at Walmart is actually a luxury. You have a beautiful family.
To the people that replied: CLEARLY I didn’t mean that their items are luxurious. I literally used the word to mean that we have the option of shopping at stores that have numerous types or brands of one particular item. MOST places in the world have very FEW options in their stores and the number of stores offering said items is VERY limited. Americans are spoiled because we are accustomed to having numerous options about where to shop, the quality we desire, and the items we desire. My comment literally had nothing to do with the quality of Walmart’s products. Walmart was created so that EVERYONE had affordable access to all different kinds of products and foods. It made it affordable for middle and lower class Americans to have giant tv’s, slightly better clothes than the old discount chains, a greater food selection and more.
