US Army Vet here. Every time I hear that song, I get so emotional. That song and our flag mean so much to so many Americans because we know what the cost was and how many men and women died to protect our flag and way of life! It makes me so angry when this new generation of Americans disrespect our flag by standing on it, burning it or when they kneel at the National Anthem all in protest for some ridiculous reason. To those people who disrespect my flag or song: you can protest the government but leave the flag alone and you better show respect to this song by standing with your right hand over your heart! Otherwise I’ll put a boot in your ass and help you pack your bags so you can get the hell out of this beautiful country! Do not disrespect my flag! EVER!
Loved your reaction video. Makes me happy and proud that you’re teaching your children about our history! Really means a lot! Love you New Zealand!

on the USS Lexington for 5years! My other uncle joined the USA Marine Corps. He fought in the worst battles against the Japanese. My father was on the other side of the world as a USARMY Soldier in the Battle of The Bulge to Paris. 2 dozen uncles and aunts served in WW2. They Never talked about it. I was so touched how the father said Americans fought the Japanese and how they’d be speaking Japanese if our brave boys hadn’t defeated the Japanese. He said Australians too re speaking Japanese. Now they understand why I stop and salute our flag and try to Never allow it to touch the ground! Sorry for the running sentences. That video truly touched my heart. Thank you. I Love Kiwis and Aussies. Great people and beautiful countries. My uncle who was a Marine was in Australia before going to fight the Japanese. He looked 14 years old. The Australians embraced him as they knew each USA Marine might be killed. I’ll Never forget that just as the Belgians in Antwerp embraced my father after the war. He volunteered to help them until late 1946 and returned to college. They were starving yet offered my dad some of their broth. That’s the only thing he told me. As a disabled vet this video completely offends me. Why? Because every single word of it is false. He doesn’t even have the correct war! Nothing in this video is true, from which war it was, why Key was there, phony conversations with the ship captain and prisoners, cannons aimed at the flag, the flagpole being crooked and especially the flagpole being held up by bodies! It’s entirely false. False history like this is completely offensive because it cheapens and dishonors the actual history and battles and the real people who fought and died for our country, spits completely offensive to me and should be to all of us. We have to stop believing lies just because they sound good or match with our ideology. The truth matters, or it should.
This video is actually a recording of a sermon given by a preacher. It’s famous for being so inaccurate and for the backlash he received due to the falsehoods.
The actual facts of this story are as follows: It was during the War of 1812, not the Revolutionary War, that Francis Scott Key wrote the poem that became out Anthem. And he went to the ship to free one prisoner, a friend of his, not to negotiate the release of all prisoners. The one for one prisoner exchange method was already existing as was purchasing individual prisoner’s freedom, which is what Key was doing. The British never targeted the flag because that’s just not a military target, so the flagpole was un damaged from the fighting and the flag still stood. There was no pile of bodies around the pole, in fact, only four Americans were killed in the fort, which was Ft. McHenry not Ft. Henry.
You can read the actual facts as I have presented them by going to the Smithsonian’s website or any college (.edu) website, which you can find by a simple Google search about the “origin of the National Anthem”or the “Ft. McHenry bombardment” or “the Battle of Baltimore”.
Here is an article about the sermon:

i had this in school and you guys kinda returned some memories to me. beeing not born in amerca nor raised in america as i learned about the story behind how the text of the anthem came into be was back then very touchy to me and this never changed. American people are not only brave but american peole are also very friendly people and i had enough opurtunities to meet some to say this. I also like your daughter and your son love this lyrics because comming from the balcans it kinda is as if that song tells our history and the history for all those brave men and wommen that fought for the very existence of their people too.
in HONOR and dignity to all tose brave man who stood against the dictators of those days ! your bodies may have died but the soul of man does never! die
    1. O! say can you see
    by the dawn’s early light,
    What so proudly we hailed
    at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars
    through the perilous fight,
    O’er the ramparts we watched,
    were so gallantly streaming?
    And the rockets’ red glare,
    the bombs bursting in air,
    Gave proof through the night
    that our flag was still there;
    O! say does that star-spangled
    banner yet wave,
O’er the land of the free
and the home of the brave?
    2. On the shore dimly seen
through the mists of the deep,
    Where the foe’s haughty host
    in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze,
    o’er the towering steep,
    As it fitfully blows,
    half conceals, half discloses?
    Now it catches the gleam
    of the morning’s first beam,
    In full glory reflected
    now shines in the stream:
    ’Tis the star-spangled banner,
    O! long may it wave
O’er the land of the free
and the home of the brave.
    3. And where is that band
    who so vauntingly swore
    That the havoc of war
    and the battle’s confusion,
    A home and a country,
    should leave us no more?
    Their blood has washed out
    their foul footsteps’ pollution.
    No refuge could save
    the hireling and slave
    From the terror of flight,
or the gloom of the grave:
    And the star-spangled banner
    in triumph doth wave,
O’er the land of the free
and the home of the brave.
    4. O! thus be it ever,
    when freemen shall stand
    Between their loved home
    and the war’s desolation.
    Blest with vict’ry and peace,
    may the Heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made
    and preserved us a nation!
    Then conquer we must,
when our cause it is just,
    And this be our motto:
    „In God is our trust;“
    And the star-spangled banner
    in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free
and the home of the brave!

In the US we are the biggest takers in the world and our government was unabashedly white supremacist and that is really difficult for white descendants of founders or immigrants to admit.
So they won't accept that white supremacy lingers. So they honor the patriotic myths of the past and ask everyone to let the sleeping dogs lay. After assassinating a few and also their allies, they let the sleeping dogs lay behind the fences of power. Every once in a while they let a few out and claimed they earned it by merit. Some were able to avoid the electrification and the spikes on the top and jumped out. Some diligently dug holes and escaped into the white community. "Look! See those dogs that got out through holes they dug in the American fence? That proves the American Dream of the America Opportunity still exists!
We were not the only ones. But the US has really maintained the myth of American Exceptionalism because some people keep taking more than others. Cuz they can. By law. But they pretend it's moral and righteously backed up by God and nationalism and they get the patriotic masses to wear blinders and reign them into that straight narrow path of religiosity and/or nationalism.

@@jimmims5622 this isn't true. We stand and fight for the right of freedom and choice. If one chooses to kneel, they are exercising their right to choose to do so. If we view it as disrespectful or not they are doing the very thing we fight to preserve. If we walked in different shoes we would have a very different outlook on life and many things would take on new meanings. Once you realize that, you would come to respect those decisions that you once felt may be wrong.

My now 78 year old brother has always been humble. Fought in Vietnam War . While several of Your on white country men treated my brother bad when he fought in Vietnam War! He told me much of what he endured trying to fight and survive in a war, and having to survive being beat down with racial hate by his own country men! White Americans! I guess you can relate to that. Being you served in the military too!

I've seen this video before and heard this story, but to see others outside the country react to it with such passion and respect Is truly inspiring. Freedom isn't just for Americans, it's intended for everyone. I hope we are always here to fight not just for our freedom but others as well. I love your family and your videos, keep them coming.
We don't always agree with or like what individuals choose to do with their freedom but we stand united In the idea that we will fight and die to protect your freedom and rights to choose what you do and how you live!
You should do a video on our constitution and bill of rights! How do they compare to what you have in your country!
