Nobody died holding the flag, nobody held the flag in the first place and the flag was never even on the ground. Less than a handful of people died (4), and none of their deaths had to do with the flag. The song lyrics at the end state "what so proudly we held", because the video says "we held the flag". The literal lyrics to the anthem itself is wrong and incorrect in the video, it's HAILED, not held, nobody "held" shit. Also, the flag was NEVER a target, it was never even a part of the attack. The British didn't give two flying shits about the flag flying. I mean I could sit here and go into more details about the factually incorrect nonsense and lies in the video, but that's all anyone really needs to know - barely anybody died, the flag was NEVER held by anybody, the flag was NEVER on the ground and the British didn't give a shit about the flag. I remember reading where the British infantry were advancing on Alexandria, VA and the only militia force available were twenty-five 12-15 year old boys from the local school. Fun fact, in the US military it is considered wholeheartedly disgraceful and disrespectful to allow the flag to touch the ground, even for the briefest moment and even the smallest piece of the flag (due to the history of the song). They even have toy practice this in basic training with a unit flag called a “guideon”. They’ll grab it from your platoons guide and chuck it as far as they can, forcing you to run and catch it. Some guys even dove head first into the muck and sand to keep it from touching the ground. We’re fiercely patriotic, most Americans anyway.
Also, don’t be ashamed of your countries history brother. Every single country on the planet has had a dark history and done things that where reprehensible at some point in time. Recognize it, understand and apologize, and vow to never do it again, but don’t allow yourself to feel unending guilt or shame for your country. It’s what’s distorting pride in America nowadays.

For to kneel is to say you disagree with what she stands for. Freedom and Justice. For me, to show disrespect to those ideas and to the men who died for those ideas is abhorrent. The flag stands for all that is good and is what our country set out to strive for. We've had growing pains and didn't always get it right, and to voice an opinion on those wrongs or any perceived current ones is anyone's right per the 1st amendment. But it shouldn't be done to the detriment of the symbol of all that is good. That would be like disrespecting the Ten Commandments because people weren't always following all of them. The ideas it stands for is what your showing respect to and not the men or Government that go against it.

Mr. Key actually wrote four stanzas, but we only sing the first. If anyone's curious, here is the complete song:
O say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
    Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation.
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.'
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Yes, the last verse has always spoke to me the most. It helps reiterate the message of the 1st verse but in a way that feels very current, close to home & almost anybody who hears that verse can picture the face of someone they knew who served our country.

It's a little crazy that our origin is because of British Expansion. I mean my original North Ameican Ancestor was an English Colonist in 1635. An Exile sent to colonize for the King at 20 years old. His descendants fought the British in the Revolution and this war, The War Of 1812. And today you probably can't find a stronger alliance between two other nations in the world.
This story isn't just for Americans, it's for anybody who believes in peace and freedom and is willing to fight for it.
In this era of oppression and conquest of our free societies It's needed more than ever. Let Freedom Ring.

American Vet here, I've seen this video dozens of times and it always gets to me a bit when he says it was patriots bodies holding the flag up. More people should know the story. Don't need to apologize for not knowing the origin of the National Anthem, most people don't know the national Anthem of other countries. Also, don't be ashamed of the British with the prisoner quarters, that's just the way things were, it's not like we had bleach or sanitary wipes. Great reaction

As an American, I knew this general story, but the details are better. I worried, when younger, that foreigners would misinterpret it as an arrogant praise of war instead of a representation of principles of a hopeful people. The Anthem always makes me cry and I’m forever grateful for the fine people that came before me. It’s true that there’s strict rules about not desecrating the flag in any way, to honor those that fought for and love our country. Thank you for your lovely comments. 🇺🇸🇬🇧

…I think (so many times) that other countries see us as “too loud”, “too patriotic”, and “very arrogant”, but most don’t understand what it took to become America. The America we have today is 244 years old. England is over 1,000 years old. It took a lot of good people to fight for what we wanted. God bless all of them who made this ultimate sacrifice so that we could live a full and free life. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🥰❤️. AND, thank you, THANK YOU Great Britain for being One of our strongest allies and friends! We love and appreciate you! ❤️😘‼️

I can't count on both hands how many times I have been listening to these videos. Every time I find another one, I listen again and sob. To me it's the most beautiful song on earth. America is my second home and I'm proud to live here. I honor all military personal. They give their service for free and willingly sacrifice their lives for their country. Thank you for allowing me to live here as a free human being. May America never forget how they received their freedom. Many times we forget that we are a nation under God. May our Lord bless us always. As long as we don't forget that, we will be a free country. Amen. What does the word Amen mean? It means, so be it. Amen.

You said earlier in the video you were a little ashamed of your government at that point. Do be too harsh, the U.S government hasn't exactly been the good guys, either. They have some dark spots in history themselves. And a lot more recently than 250 years ago. But us common people still believe in these stories. I think we have national pride in common with our British cousins. I would love to see what you were talking about with your national anthem.
