- wnThe sprayer trigger was sticking so it didn't turn off the sprayer when needed. This is a quick easy fix.
I hope it helps.
Bissell also uses a similar plunger, so this might help with that too.
Edit: 3/21:
Make sure to use the Superlube synthetic PTFE grease. It works and doesn't attack the rubber O-rings like some petroleum-based grease might. I have no affiliation with Superlube and make no money from this video. Some commenters had varying results and I don't know what they used for grease. This works.
Edit 5/2023. In the six years since I posted this it’s had over 40,000 views and more than 140 comments… My personal conclusion from that huge amount of interest is that this must be a manufacturer defect, and they should offer a recall or mail a fix to registered owners.
Aye my man! I was about to tear it apart myself cause I couldn't find anything until this video. Glad you took the time to help others, you're the real mvp
Thank you for that handle/trigger explanation. Almost threw the whole thing out the window from frustration
Omg this was the video that fixed the problem
Thank you so much. I had have a brand new Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe and had this problem. I spent 2 hours today trying to fix this (and it's New Year's, so Hoover customer service was off).
Thanks for a detailed video. I had taken off the screws but didn't know how to do full disassembly (I didn't pull out the white part to see the spring).
UPDATE: this was only a temporary fix for my defective trigger. I chatted with Hoover and got a warranty replacement. The new trigger is way more clicky. They have an online chat which I prefer over calling. I did have to send them a video, provide serial number, and answer a few questions, but it replacement was far superior to the original one I received.
Glad it helped. Happy new year
Not all hero’s wear capes. Thank you so much for this!
Thank you. Solved my problem, so easy too. I quit using my spray and used a spray bottle instead. Today I took it apart as your instructional & voila. Perfecto! Awesome vid!
Thanks for the positive feedback. Glad it helped
Thank you so much for putting up this video. I thought my attachment was a goner! This is the 1st and only video I found on how to fix the problem. Thanks again!
Glad it helped
I don’t normally comment on videos but you saved a life bro. I shipped mine all the way to Jamaica and no way of returning it unless I fly out with it and my sprayer just would not work… I was about to get so upset and try call customer care. But you method worked perfectly, I did not even have to grease it just had to remove and place it back.. Thanks A lot Man‼️‼️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Glad it helped
You’re amazing. My Hoover has been sitting for almost a year unused bc the sprayer wasn’t working. I was ready to buy a new one and something told me to google one more time to see if I could find a solution. Found your video!! Quick and to the point and you just saved me a lot of money❤❤🎉🎉 thank you!!!
Thank you so much. I called Hoover and rep walked me Thu a couple of things to do and still did not work. Got on youtube and looked at your vid, and wow it worked but it still sticks alittle. You saved me a lot and money and one comment said she will use a spray body which I think will do the job as well.
Thank you for posting this!! I almost ditched my machine and you showed me how to fix it.
Me too! Thank you!
ditto
Thank you so much. I unscrew it and had a hard time putting it back together until I saw this. You saved me. 🙏
You are the kindest human. Thank you for this. My hero
Thanks glad it helped
Omg thank you so much! I was trying to figure out why my hose trigger was loose. I thought there was a spring that popped out!
Very grateful for this info. Need to get thelubri ant you mention but once I know ew the reason for the problem I was able to use a tool to help me complete the job today.
Thank you again for your post
Great video, Vax Spotwash, same problem. Lifesaver!
I have a Vax Spotwash Duo - same mechanism, same problem, same solution. Many thanks !
Thanks! I couldn't figure out how to fix my sticking trigger and this did the trick!
Glad it helped
Wonderful! Works great now. Thanks for your awesome video👍. Thank God for CZcams!!!
Glad it helped
Hey Capt Appropriated issue resolved !! great big thank you 👍
Thanks a bunch for posting this video!! The unit hasn’t been used in years, so the white piece is actually stuck in there (likely to dried soap residue). But now I know what to do, so thank you!
Glad it helped
Thank you, mine stuck whilst using it. Managed to get the job done and was going to call manufacturer, found your video and, fixed. Many thanks for posting
Thanks for the video. My issue was the water was not spraying at all. By taking it apart like you mentioned and lubricating the plunger with dielectric grease solved the problem . Exactly the opposite of what your situation was. Thanks again.
Thank you! This fixed mine and this is the only video that mentioned the valves in that solenoid at all. Really appreciate it!
I had a problem where the trigger was jammed and it actually came loose from the handle. Your video fixed both problems, thanks
glad it helped
Extremely efficient clear solution for precise problem I have with hoover. Thank you!
Thanks so much for this video! Exactly what I needed.
You’re welcome. glad it helped
Thank you! Your video helped me unclog my sprayer. You explained it so well that I didn't have any difficulties at all.
Would have taken me hours or broken parts to figure that out, thank you so much!
Glad it helped
I always fix things on my own and usually have to do research as well. Sometimes it is difficult to find the solution. But you made it easy. Thank you for that!
I cleaned it with some dishsoap first and I also used a lubricant from my hair clippers. Its all that i had, but it worked perfectly. It sprays better now too.
Me too. Usually it’s me looking for solutions. Glad to pay it forward.
Thank you so much. Solution not coming out. Took handle apart. Uh oh just didnt fit together right. Watched your diy and could hear you good and clear instructions. Now working great. Thanks again a carpet saver for sure. 😀
I just took mine apart and put it back together. At first it wasn't working. I tried it again and it worked. I don't have the Teflon lube but will pick some up when I am out next. Thank you for the video!
Just bought this and the sprayer didn't work! Thank you so much for this video!
Glad it helped. It’s a shame they shipped a defective product.
Had the exact same problem with the Tax Spotwash 2023 that uses the same trigger. Thank you
This really helped me out! Thank you for making this video!
I just got my machine today and the trigger was stuck right out of the box. Tried to call Hoover.. good luck with that. Great video, thanks!
This was a lifesaver for me. Thank you so much. Rod
Ty much, vfor your help. Saved me lots of time. Keep up the good work
Thank you so much man! I tried to find a replacement for the rings or the plunger itself but nothing online. This saved the day thank you
Thanks works again
Thank you so much I was about to trash mines until I watched this video
You helped me in the first 30 seconds. You are the bomb! Thank you so much for making this! I had it apart and clean but couldn’t get it back together. Didn’t realize that white part moved and it seemed like I’d lost a spring for the trigger, but I knew I didn’t…
Glad it helped
Thank you very much! Hoover support seemed to more push for a replacement instead of really trying to help: “Did you clean it out when you were done using it? It's possible there is some soap in there that hardened. You can try running warm water through it maybe. It only has a 2 year warranty. If that trouble shooting method doesn't work, you can call in to customer service for a discount on a new product.”
No I just use it, and don't clean the trigger. The final spray is always clean water anyway, without any detergent or odor remover
Thanks so much for making this great video I was having this issue so took it apart well the spring made it fly apart and I didn’t get to see how the green button attached so now I’m gonna lub it and put it back together and hope it works.
i just got mine today. having this problem so i’ll try your method out and give you a a update. thanks for the insight!
Thank you MUCH. I never expected to have this same issue while using my Hoover Upholestry Carpet Vacuum machine. Twice, I used the self-cleaning hose method. But, that method did not help the nozzle to function. Your video helped to know how to recognize and how to fix the real problem. I looked at the product label on the back, and though to call the customer service. But, the late timing in the evening on a Friday, was not the best time to call the company. Thank for sharing this more in-depth knowledge.
you’re welcome. glad to help
Thank -You very much for your help. 😊
Worked great, thanks!
Of to try ❤ hope it works
thanks a million. i was playing around with mine and the trigger popped off. couldn’t figure out how to fix it until I watched this. muchas gracias
My pleasure. Glad this helped at least one person. :)
Thank you !! Same problem.
Thanks my friend, you saved me my precious time.
My pleasure. Nice to have friends :)
Thanks, your solved the very problem I was having.
Thank you for this! Helped me fix mine
Thank you so much
THANK YOU!!!
Thanks so much sir! You helped me a lot. 😊
Glad to help
thanks, similar problem as I am doing some cleaning on Sunday when the center is closed.
Problem solved. Awesome video. Substituted with food grade safe grease, and took a paper clip with a slight bend from needle nose pliers, shoved in the output hole, and wallah
Thanks. I just fixed mine with your instructions.
Glad it helped
Sir you are awesome thank you for simple and informative video did exactly like you said and worked perfect 💯
My problem exactly. Thanks for Sharing
My pleasure
Wow, I was skeptical at first but it worked!
Happy to hear that
Have the same issue.
Tried grease as you did, worked for about 5 minutes.
Tried just cleaning the plastic nozzle and orings- seemed to work.
I think it might be the brand of soap causing the issue. I just bought some off brand carpet cleaner.
If i only use the unit with hot water, it clears up and works. If i use soap, it gets progressively worse
I’m surprised the fix didn’t last for you. As you mentioned, something else might be a factor, and a good cleaning might help before you re-grease. Make sure you use a light grease. Also note that petroleum based grease can attack rubber O-rings. That’s why I chose the particular brand of grease. (I have no affiliation with Superlube I’m just a customer not selling anything)
I use water only and had no water problem coming out. Works now
Thank you so much, you are fantastic!! Got it working again!
nice to hear it helped
Thank you-Thank you-Thank you!
Thank you for thos video!!! Helped me fix my trigger
Glad it helped
Thank you!! I took the nozzle apart for another reason and couldn’t get the trigger to work again. Thought I lost a spring. Thank you! Blessings!
Glad it helped
You're a life saver!
Thanks for letting me know this helped.
Thanks so much! So helpful!
Glad it helped
you're a lifesaver. thanks
Glad to help
Thank you!
Glad it helped
Trying this in a few hoping it works!
Thank you
Glad it helped
Thanks! Bought some Super Lube and waited for it to arrive. Watched your video, replicated it, and my Hoover Power Scrub is like new again. This was really annoying having the trigger stick and continue spraying fluid, saturating whatever I was cleaning. You didn't mention the amount of lube, but like car wax, I applied very sparingly.
Glad you got it working. Yes, no need for a lot of lube.
you help me a lot, thank you sir
I’m glad this helped.
I have this problem also I'm going to try this today thank you!
Make sure to use the Superlube synthetic PTFE grease. It works and doesn't attack the rubber O-rings like some petroleum-based grease might. I have no affiliation with Superlube and make no money from this video. Some commenters had varying results but I don't know what they used for grease. This works.
You saved my ass, thank you!!
Had to use Goof-Off to remove the previous gummy whatever it was. Was it the original lube from the Hoover manufacturing process? Some carpet cleaning detergent that was not recommended by Hoover? (I believe we've only ever used Hoover and Bissell products.) But then the Super-Lube really worked well. Your video steered me in the right direction. Thanks!
Glad it helped, and you resolved the issue
For some reason mine isn’t working any more isn’t long that I have it the air isn’t going through the hose it’s coming out of the bottom to where I cannot vacuum
How To Unstuck Spray Trigger for Hoover Power Scrub Elite Hose for not Spraying
Mine is brand new and the trigger isn't working properly. Got it with my Air Miles so can't return it. Will try opening it up like you did in the video. Thanks.
Edit: Since it was new everything was just very stiff. I had to manually force the nozzle to loosen up before it would work. The video helped a lot!
Did you have to take it apart to do that? How do u "force it". Having the same problem and getting frustrated!!
My brand new one was also not spraying. Boyfriend took it apart per the video and siphoned with his mouth while the machine was on and basically "unstuck" the air or whatever that was trapped in there. Hope this helps others! Also don't put detergent in the water tank while you do this, obviously.
We just bought one & we did everything properly & NOT working so gna try too ... Thanks for posting cuz we couldn’t find any guide either
I tried & it didn’t work ... thanks tho
@@francesbolton8042 I suggest you return it, if you can . Good luck
Thank you. almost went back to home Depot and was gonna return it. Do u add warm water to yours or just cold
Glad to help. I use cold water or luke warm.
My sprayer doesn't spray I think hose Is stopped up but does not pull off
Mine is leaking at the hottom?! Help?
The Hoover Spotless Cleaner is expensive and not spraying is ridiculous. I will try your suggestions. What's your take on the hose cleaner opening on the other side of the unit?
I think the hose cleaner is a nice feature, especially after cleaning up pets accidents
I found mine did not spray, right out of the box. By squeezing the trigger while lifting and putting back in place the cleaning tank broke the air lock and it started spraying just fine
Thanks! Your method worked for fixing mine.
Had it for over a year
How many o rings were inside? Your fix worked fine I saw 3 O rings but groves for 4 ?
I don't remember. The O-Rings were clear. Just grease whatever's there, you only need to give it a light coating.
I just took mine apart and there are 3.
Mine stopped spraying water, took apart, doesn’t seem to be any blockage, any ideas as to why it’s not spraying? The sprayer underneath works fine when cleaning carpets
Sprayer underneath? I don’t understand. This is the only sprayer. It needs to be powered on, doesn’t work without power.
Do you have any solution to the water just trickling down the nozzle and not spraying?
Sorry, @Fill-Am Bee Diaries. Haven’t seen that. Maybe a good nozzle cleaning would help
I was hopeful that this would solve my problems but unfortunately it did not. I'm glad it worked for so many other users here but I'm at my wits end trying to clean a urine stain. I'm about to smash my machine.
On my unit, the trigger drips cleaning solution. It needs the three O rings. Anyone know the size or where I can get them?
I suggest you take the piece to a hardware store (old style like a True Value, not a big box store) and match it up.
Strangely I have gone down the same path, tried leflon spray then some lithium grease but it didn’t help. It’s almost like the O-rings have swollen. Am now looking to replace the O-rings, perhaps with something from automotive or plumbing supply.
Probably a reaction with the lubricants you used? Some rubber compounds will degrade when exposed with petroleum products. The grease I used is safe with rubber. Most complete hardware stores (TrueValue or Ace) will stock an O-rings by size in the plumbing section.
@@1sailfast Naw, I only tried to lube it once but the rings were already quite bloated. Yesterday I put on some smaller black rings (3) and it is working well. Anyways we will see how long it works with these automotive o-rings on there. Thanks for the video!
@@RobPolson Glad you resolved it.
1sailfast Hi. I didn't actually. It started sticking again so I got more aggressive and added a stronger spring. Now it is strong enough to push the plunger back into place. Anyway, we will see how well it works as time progresses. 🙂
Will this solve the problem of it not spraying water?
This will only solve the problem of the stuck trigger. If your unit is not spraying water, it is likely from a different issue.
I did this, and my water is still not spraying out. Anyone have any suggestions what to do next? Currently soaking the head in some vinegar water
Didn’t work for me either. Currently trying to see what else to do
I tried your fix and I got the white trigger part working smoothly, but now the solution just dribbles out of the nozzle with no spray action. Any ideas on how to address that problem?
Either something's missing or something's clogged. Try taking out the sprayer part again and cleaning well. Did you use the same grease I do? Perhaps the grease you used is too thick? That might cause a clog.
@@1sailfast I think the machine is not pumping the fluid thru the hose. I may have to take about the body to check the device that cause the flow of the solution through the hose.
I cant get mine to spray at all. Have any suggestions?
Did it ever work? If not - return it. If yes, take it out and clean all the passages.
Funny story this part was not working and then I took it apart and it immediately sprayed me in the face then I put it back together and it started working. It wasn't even jammed or anything so I'm not sure what's going on.
Clean it and lube it anyway. It was stuck on something.
