  • Home made IPA sprays are commonly used in detailing as they are so cost effective. It is possible to mix 25 litres of IPA for around £30, whereas 25 litres of a dedicated panel prep can cost around £256.25 or more.
    However - are dedicated panel sprays more expensive for a reason?

    The proper way to use this panel prep is to spray it on the panel & let it sit for a few seconds then wipe off. Not on the microfiber towel. Cheers 🍻

    I use 2 towels with IPA. One microfiber that i spray the ipa on. Wipe the area , then use the clean microfiber quickly to remove the ipa.

    It would be interesting to see if the IPA solution mix with a degreaser will work better than the IPA solution alone. Great honest to goodness video mate!

    Interesting comparison, but how does it compare to paint prep solutions (silicone remove, degreaser etc. e.g. Novol 785) ? Financially they are not that as cheap as IPA, but definitely twice as cheaper as those dedicated for detailing.

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 2 lety +1

      Lucky Luke - Pre-paint prep solutions tend to be more aggressive and most of the time not necessary for purely removing polishing oils! Dedicated degreasers like Gyeon Prep are usually all that’s required! Anything more can be like taking a gun to a knife fight! Hope that makes sense! Interesting video, would have also been good to have seen how the solvent based Sonax Paint Prepare compared. I noticed on Gyeon packaging that they recommend washing the car with washing up liquid post polishing and pre-panel prep in advance of coating, and I do wonder why they would recommend this if Prep was so effective (I love it and Eraser to use btw). Is something like a Body Shop Solvent Panel Wipe e.g. Upol Slow or like Gtechniq Panel wipe not a more potent cleaner?

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 3 lety +1

      Adam Balfour - Good point well made re: demonstrating the Sonax Paint Prepare! Maybe we should have demonstrated it but the reason we didn’t is that we mainly wanted to showcase the Gyeon PREP which is a much better ‘all rounder’ ... but noted! 🤗 The reason Gyeon state using a washing up liquid post polishing is the very reason we mentioned in the video. Water/alcohol based panel preps don’t always effectively remove solvent based polishes/compounds. People watch videos, use products without full knowledge and don’t always get successful results. Lots of conflicting information out there! In the case of PREP it was getting criticised for not being an effective panel prep when in fact it was user error i.e. people using it to try to remove solvents! Therefore it’s easier to just state ‘wash with a washing up liquid’ as this will strip almost anything. The ironic thing is, is that following this advice is a bit counterproductive ... as it then negates the need to use a panel prep! Lol 😂 ... we find Gyeon PREP (when used in the right circumstance) is more than potent enough to prepare a panel prior to adding protection of choice! There are a multitude of products out there that will do the same job ... but our panel prep of choice (on most occasions) is Gyeon PREP. Hope that answers things 👍🏽👊🏽

      @@VProjectUKDetailing it does thanks it's just such a tricky subject in general as the results aren't always clear cut. Where I'm preparing for coating now I'm generally doing a 2 stage wipedown, a body shop solvent as I go then final wipedown with eraser. Its not practical to wash then safely dry a car you've spent hours perfecting when there's no protection on it.

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 3 lety

      Adam Balfour - Exactly! That’s the other issue - if you’ve spent ages machine polishing - then wash your car you are at much higher risk of re-introducing scratches again! As with most things in life it’s all about using the right tool for the right job & experience! For us on this channel this is what we’re trying to do ... if you’ve noticed we don’t review a million different products to confuse people! We just showcase best products and techniques which we’ve experienced over the years to hopefully help others out there! As the channel grows (albeit slowly) hopefully it’ll help 👍🏽👊🏽🙏🏽

      if u have time, u wash with liquid dish soap, the only reason to use a surface prep, is to save time from washing your car again!!

    From what I have read from other people who base actually used this product is that it streaks bad. I am wondering if that degreaser or detergent that they use is what causes this. Also if it would contaminate the wax or ceramic coating causing premature failure in the wax or Cermaic coating. Have you has this issue and what are your thoughts.
    My last question is since this is an Anti startup product, I would assume you could use this to also prep or clean your panel when preparing for painting??

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před rokem +1

      @btbd2785 - Firstly thanks for watching! Some good points well raised - the only time Gyeon Prep would streak is user error - most likely due to over application and/or using on a non cool panel. If used correctly it will flash leaving negligible residue behind which will not affect waxes, sealants or ceramic coats. Yes, it can be used as pre-paint prep however we would opt to use a dedicated pre-paint prep product if we were decontaminating prior to painting. Hope this helps!? • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 3 lety +1

      joe lane - Before! You use a panel prep to get the surface as clean as possible so any protection (wax, sealant or ceramic) you add is able to perform to its maximum potential. A ‘polish’ is not a protection product but a correction product! Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and make sure you check out the rest of the channel! And what if you add 1 to 2% degreaser or apc to the 21% ipa dilution?

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 3 lety +2

      Ludo A - Good question and one we were anticipating! Adding 1-2% of APC will make some difference but you would need around 5% or more for it to make a real difference! But we wouldn’t add APC to a panel prep spray! APC doesn’t always fully evaporate which is why most APC’s recommend either washing after or using a damp cloth to wipe! For a panel prep spray you need something which fully cleans and preps in one go! The more you wipe, or the more steps required to prep a panel risks marring the paint you’ve spent ages correcting and/or makes the process more laborious and time consuming! As for degreasers, most degreasers are not designed to be wiped away but need rinsing! Therefore we would not add a degreaser to an IPA for the same reasons as above! Gyeon PREP does contain specially developed degreasers which are designed to be wiped away! Hope this answers your question 👍🏽🙏🏽

    No one mentions mineral spirits

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 3 lety +2

      Bull1the1Great - Although mineral spirits are great degreasers they are petroleum derived and should not be used on porous surfaces e.g. lacquer! Although they can be used to great effect they are also water insoluble which means you would need to use another degreaser to remove any mineral spirit residues! This means you may as well use a dedicated IPA based degreaser in the first place and ideally one that is manufactured specifically for use on vehicles.
