Thanks for bringing up this discussion. Im pleased just knowing this weird phenomena does happen to others , even though its rarely disclosed or mentioned by anyone except you . I use a diy panel prep made of approx 29 oz distilled water & 4 oz of 90 % isopropyl in a quart spray bottle, but so many times iĺl see a hazy looking marks afterward no matter if i use my diy panel wipe or name brand. Im guessing this is very similar to what you described ?
This happens to me when i'm preparing to apply a sio2 or graphine type coating . Of course it's after all my heavy compounding / polishing work is completed . If im using a regular wax it wont be a problem , but only the dedicated coatings.
Its because of this im checking out videos like yours, while still searching for a other foolproof methods besides panel wipe products to remove the leftover oils from polishes prior to coating.
Ive tried doing a quickie foaming with dawn & water -rinse it off- wipe dry or leaf blow dry instead of using ANY panel wipe product. This method has worked ok, but still takes so much time & effort - there must be a better way. Although i havent tried that certain primer polish combo you spoke of as of yet .
I'm hopefull some "chemist Guru Spock dude" will come up with a true 1 step paint correction mixed with a super glossy , long lasting , hard , durable ceramic type protective coating to eliminate some of these steps and still giving super impressive results. Thanx again for your vids.

      Did my GT350 with TACsystem.
      Total One Essential
      Moonlight
      QuartzMax
Shinee Wax to go blind from the gloss.
Hindsight, I would use One Step Master instead of Moonlight. It’s much quicker and easier to apply.
Phil, Total One Essential is a primer, but doesn’t contain fillers like CarPro Essence. I would take Essence over Total One Essential. Especially if not aiming for perfection. It’ll fill in the minor scratches, as you already know from experience. 🌟

Thanks for this explanation Mr. Miranda. I was experiencing some horrible issues with my Black paint. I would use Chemical Guys Wipe-Out after polishing then I would notice the rich black color would fade. Sometimes leave very light scratches while using the Rag Company's softest towels. This was making me crazy. So I would polish again, get the paint perfect. To prevent me from melting-down, I would take a break then I decided to apply CarPro CQuartz 3.0 WITHOUT a panel wipe. I was scared that there would be a chemical reaction...but no. I applied 2 coats then waited 24 hours and applied a coat of GLISS. There I noticed white-colored "dust" would occur when wiping off GLISS. So far no issues. Thanks for your input. I feel better after watching your video

I've done this a lot in the last few weeks on test panels. After I polished with Koch Chemie F6 and then finished down with 496 I left the panel alone to cool down. Then went back over it with 404. Let cure for 48 hours. I did the whole wipe down. Geyon prep as well. Coating was way easier. I have heard if a finishing polish has silica’s in it you definitely need a wipe down. But I guess it's a certain type of silica that's not in Trifecta. Either way I got it to work. Awesome video as usual.

I remember that some time ago I've had a brand new Seat Leon (kinda cheaper VW Golf here in EU) with black metallic paint, the client took delivery of it in December, so when the first snow came, he removed the snow from the car with a broom (the automotive type). Needles to say he scratched the hell out of that living thing.
So he came to me to fix that problem. It turned out, that the scratches were so severe, I've had to compound it with Rupes Zephyr and Blue foam. The scratches were 100% gone but the haze...needles to say I could not finish it with anything that Rupes or Menzerna had in stock at that time. Desperate time calls for desperate measures - White Rupes pad, and a quick detail spray from one of our local companies - car came out beautiful.
When the time came to apply ceramic coating (Gyeon Prime) I soaked (or applied heavy, like Mike Philips says) the panel with Gyeon Prep, and used my plushiest MF towel (it was crazy like, 900 GSM 40cmx40cm) and wiped gently - guess what ? I was back to square one.
So, you know what I did ? I did not use any type of panel wipe whatsoever. I basically laid the coating on top of that QD which I used for my finishing step. The coating lasted little more over the time it promised, and that was 12 months if I remember correctly.
Later down the line I've had similar problem with Golf VII painted in Urano Grau, so I've done it the same way - finish with QD then apply ceramic, but I don't know how it ended, since that client stopped coming back for maintenence washes.

@@MirandaDetailing In 2021 I plan to apply ceramic coating (Gyeon Synchro) to freshly powder coated suspension parts and BBS rims, but what remains I plan to test on the paint of the car. On one side of the car I plan to apply the coating with panel wipe (Gyeon Prep) on the other side I won't use any paint prep. Both sides will be polished with White Rupes DA Pad (the new one) and Rupes Uno Pure (that thing smells like hand lotion) to get rid of anything that might be there. We will see the results. I do not wan't to experiment on my customers` cars, so I will have to do it on my own.
There is also other test that I am running currently - about "dedicated wheel coatings". Left side wheels on my car are coated with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light, and the right side wheels are coated with Gtechniq C5 - I applied the coatings in April and the last wash before winter storage was in November. So far - absolutely no diffrence. I wash my wheels with whatever there is in the foam canon in the self-service car wash, and once a month I give them a thorough clean using iron remover.

Not going to lie in my experience when I had first started coatings I used Gtechniq Panel wipe and marring was being left behind. Also found out at that point I was using a compound or polish with fillers. I switched to pure ISP no marring but left behind residue. Switched to Dr.Beasleys Z1, and I wanted to scream with how difficult it was to wipe off and the stupid residue that it left behind you had to wipe off with lots of water. FINALLY, I switched to Megiuars Surface prep and have 0 issues. Not sure if this is the products or better procedures over time (less dusting, cleaner shop, better lighting, ect.)

I've gone through a couple gallons of the Optimum Paint Prep I found super cheap, $19 a gallon!! No complaints at all, feels very similar to Eraser. Not too aggressive, easy to use, wipe off is quick and easy.
Nothing to be intimidated of bud, you got this. Just take your time, have plenty of towels on hand, use good lighting, and have a good handheld light close by to check your work from various angles as you go panel by panel. You'll be just fine. It's actually a lot of fun! It's all in the prep. 👍👌✌

Hi. Congrats on the new CX9! Do a test spot with the Eraser and see if it causes any marring. Thanks f not then you should be good in using it. If it does mar up after the Eraser, then use Carpro Essence to finish polish and wait 24h to let it cure then you coat over it with no panel wipe. If it accumulates dust after the 24h just use a blower to dust it off.

FWIW, Scott H did a big side by side longevity test a few years ago, and found that CarPro Essence (by itself) lost hydrophobicity very quickly. I know that's different to testing it with a coating on top though. Here's the video where he shows it "failing" on the very first wash, which occurred after 30 days: czcams.com/video/JBba1qoPZeQ/video.html

    • @MirandaDetailing

interesting...Jason From Chicago is also doing a test on his own vehicle driven daily. Carpro Reload on his roof pretty much failed at 2 weeks while Reload on Scotts panel is performing better after 30 days than the 2 weeks on a daily driven. So many variables are in play here, so sometimes durability tests can be different. What water is used, what dilution ratios, what the temps of the panel when applied, or temps and weather where the vehicle or panel is. So many things, Yes it does give us an idea but sometimes inconclusive. Despite all of the durability tests, I believe in maintenance....we use some sort of topper or spray wax/sealant after each wash. Its simply good practice.

I think I understand what you mean but that’s not the case the. It’s not the pane wipe that is hard to wipe off. A panel wipe strips the paint and can soften the paint and make it susceptible to marring from the towel. When applying a coating it leaves behind the ceramic particles leaving a smooth slick surface. Two completely different things.

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  Před 3 lety +5

Thanks. So the idea behind the polish I used here is you don’t need to do a panel wipe at all. With other prep polishes I believe they each have their own cure time, but Essence and Gyeon Primer can either be left for 24h to cure completely then apply your coating without the panel wipe, or wait about 4 hours then do a very light pane wipe and coat. But I really want a prep polish that can be wiped and a coating applied right away with no wait time and no panel wipe at all. That would be a HUGE game changer right?
