    Ever since I've learned , and used a car Claying product, I rely to claying my cars paint for the best & smooth'est finish prior to using a new Wax coating. I'm not fond of using any paint prep's, they are a waste of money & my precious time. Scott thanks so much for clearing the air on expensive paint prep's. For me it's a careful Claying & good car washing.

    I use a P&B shop favorite for years, 3M Prep Solvent 70, it’s water based and removes all contaminants prior to paint application. I use it after paint correction to get back to virgin paint, don’t want compatibility issues with organic or synthetic sealants. Some of my customers want 845 after correction, this lets me apply only 845 to the paint without issues.
    Gallons are $52 and up but a worthwhile purchase!

    Pretty sure most alkaline apc's use cationic surfactants that don't rinse freely. Meaning it didn't actually remove the protection, just masked the water behavior.
    Alternatively, hydrocarbon solvents like the one you used at first are naturally hydrophobic. Meaning it may have actually removed the protection but you couldn't see that until you removed the trace oils with an apc.
    This why you rinse again after washing with a ph neutral soap with emulsifiers, or even an acid. Alkalines and hydrocarbon solvents mask water behavior in opposite directions.

    I think those preps such as CarPro Eraser are designed to remove residual oils from polishing and also gloss enhancers and the like in order to prep for a wax/coating. You can actually restore some beading from sealants that seem to be gone and are just full of gloss enhancers from car soap. I always just use a homemade prep. Much cheaper and still gets the job done.
    Edit: I don’t know where people got the idea that this is supposed to remove sealants/waxes. Does the bottle advertise it? (I’ve only seen eraser and it doesn’t say it’s formulated for that)

    Hey Scott, just a thought. Maybe the APC left some form of residue behind that hindered the sealants ability to sheet/bead. I’ve seen apex detail do the same type of test and after he uses an APC the sealant will act the same way. He then uses a paint prep afterwards and the behavior of the sealant will return. Just a thought 👍🏻

      Maybe the paint prep he is using brings back some hydrophobic effect...
      Some have a primer for a coating..
      This product is a solvent based paint prep and supposedly leaves no residue behind...
      The apc removed the sealant in this video...
      If an apc can't do it or a paint prep, I guess we are all screwed and being deceived...
      I know from years of experience an apc will in fact do it and the sealant doesn't magically reappear if I used a body solvent like dupli color grease and wax remover after a apc was used..

      Ok...How can we verify it removes the things you mentioned??
      Oils and residue plus synthetic polymers are extremely hard if not almost impossible to see or feel...
      We need to be able as consumers to see it's ability to remove something because of it's extremely high cost...

    • @XboxStickey

      Your next video could be "how do we know that polishing oils are removed". I mean it's important to be able to verify (I know we cant really) before putting things like a coating or quality sealant so they can properly bond to the paint. You could do a quick pass with a polish, see how the water reacts without wiping, buff off polish with just a MF and see how the water reacts, then use paint prep.

    Scott, this doesn't seem all that surprising. All of the chemical tests trying to determine the tenacity of the various coatings and sealants use multiple hits of APC and strippers. The better ones are not affected and maintain sheeting/beading action after many, many hits. It almost seems to me like a waste of time. Just clean it good and then get out the buffer. You will have to clean or swap pads more often. What is the down side of the APC? Softens the paint? I enjoy your videos and appreciate the info and honesty. I know you love us all!

    Paint-preps are the last stage so I think again this video has it wrong. When you want to strip the paint APC (nowadays preferably biodegradable) is the way to go, and has always been (first spray & rinse, then maybe light wash, iron-remover, tar-remover, optional claying, normal wash...), paint-prep is the absolutely last step to remove the possible residue left from other used products. If some paint-preps market them differently thats another point but I try to use my brain as much as possible.

    it's called a paint prep for a reason, it's to prep the paint of oil or polishing residue... no one ever said it would strip a sealant... I suggest to people if they want to apply a coating is wash the car down with an APC / CT18 mixture.

    Scott, do you always use products according to their instructions? I have this product and it says to let dwell for 1 minute. I noticed you didn't leave it on very long. Maybe the results would be different according to direction? I've never used it to strip a wax/sealant without washing/decon and claying and polishing beforehand. But it works to remove compound residue.

    Is it possible the APC is leaving a film behind on the paint giving the appearance of no protection. Wipe it with paint prep again and rinse and see if the beading returns.

    Well who would remove their wax job after a week of applying? You did say that those strippers work best after 30+ days of wax being on the vehicle. Don’t think this test is viable unless you want to remove the wax job in less than a month. Maybe doing the test after the 30 days. Still love your videos! Learned a lot from you Scott. thnx

      @@pbakai182 well in a way he is. He's saying that these products that are supposed to be doing their job aren't and for the money your spending on them they should work without 3 or more applications to do their job. I know he isn't just taking about this particular brand but all of the name brands in general are just ripping people off and have been for years.

      Yeah, what would be awesome, would be to compare Fast Finish to other brands that are expensive. I’ve heard that it can compete pretty well. Some of those big companies, while they can have some good products, they’re expensive, and not all of them work well. I’ve used Meguiars products in the past, and of course have been happy with the products for price and performance for the most part. I can’t say the same for some that I have paid more for, like from Chemical Guys for example. CG is alright, but I think I’m switching back to meguiars. I think his point, is what it always has been, you don’t have to necessarily spend a lot of money to get great results.

  • @romari2706
    @romari2706 Před 5 lety

    Wow. SimpleGreen at a 10:1 dilution completely stripped the paint of wax/sealant in one trial, which the Paint Prep did not even with two tries. So why NOT use an All Purpose Cleaner like Simple Green and wash and nutralize it out with a good car wash detergent?

    • @baklash6079
      @baklash6079 Před 5 lety

      Several others have asked the same question, but I have seen no reply. I would like to know the answer myself. Some comments here have said they use a diluted apc 10% and it works great, but no one has ever explained why that would be bad.

  • @gambietti
    @gambietti Před 4 lety

    so I have had my doubts as well. I do a foam prewash with 1 ounce of ardex nuwave apc and 2 ounces of purple power boat and auto followed by a boat and auto contact wash. Iron remover follow up should be nail in coffin to any wax or sealant.

  • @romari2706
    @romari2706 Před 5 lety

    So what you are implying is that 1) Wash the car with Purple Power Heavy Duty 2) Strip off wax/sealant using an All Purpose Cleaner (APC) like Simple Green at a 10:1 dilution 3) Wash the car again with Purple Power Heavy Duty to neutralize the APC and leave the surface pristinely clean for the next steps: 4) Claying then 5) Applying Wax or Sealant.
