how about every agancy creates something like a Gofoundme Page, or better a proper internal system in which common citizen could chip in to help out federal employees. Which could also be used in the future to include your donation to your taxes.
Oh or maybe even make the IRS obsolete and the citizens able to fund government services directly according to their personal wishes and priorities (infrastructure, education, national security, space exploration, scientific research etc.) wouldn't that be even more democratic? We could save on politicians, and businesses wouldn't be able to use lobbyists anymore. Through the internet everybody can represent themselves (Facebook is already forcing us to identify) we do not need a handful of decision makers who can be lured into corruption anymore...

Trump has control of all three of our branches of government. He, of course, is President, which is the Executive Branch. As Michigan Representative Dan Kildee said tonight on MSNBC, he now pretty much controls the Legislative Branch, since Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell can't be found and when he shows up, automatically sides with Trump. And Trump nominee Brett Kavanugh is in the Judicial Branch, which is a deciding vote on the Supreme Court. Kavanaugh will always kiss Trump's ass in court verdicts. Trump, in a way, now has his Dictatorship. He needs to be found guilty of treason and obstruction of justice by Robert Mueller and sent to Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary.

Can some one explain one thing to me.
I don't live in the US so I don't know the laws but I find it strange that people still go to work when they are not being paid. In the UK, the most basic of work contracts is that the employee agrees to do defined work and employer agrees to pay for said work. If either side breaks the contract, the case can go to court. Secondly, why would anybody work without pay. If all said no, maybe the country would grind to a halt but then something would have to be done.

@Steph - because so many people just could not be assed engaging in politics (at any level), so anyone who can rally 20-30%~ of the potential votes is the "choice of the country".

Because even the Republicans knew the wall was more than worthless and a waste of money! They simply demanding it now to make a point to their base that they would always go against the Dems no matter if their decision is good or bad and that the only reason the wall wasn't get built wasn't because of their own incompetence, but because it was the Dems that stopped them from getting it built!
They didn't do it two years ago because the talking point of a wall is more valuable to Republicans and Trump in particular than an actual wall would be.
It's a symbolic thing for them to use to blame Democrats and continue painting them as weak on immigration and national security. If they had actually built the thing, they wouldn't be able to claim the Democrats were preventing them from building it anymore. That's why it was a non-issue until Republicans lost the House, and now all of a sudden it's the most important thing in the world to Trump.
And his supporters are far too stupid to understand that degree of nuance, so they eat it right up.

But it's a rallying call he's borrowed from a dictator's manual--two things actually (1) if you repeat things enough people will believe it and (2) you can unite people against a "common enemy." There were people working and not paid walking into McConnell's office with the bills they can't pay. some were crying as one talked about being told they were going to shutting off her electric. Her son uses a machine to help with his medical needs. There were plenty of cameras. Then his staff refused to let any more people in. there were still at least 20 more. Saying they were complaining about the same thing and would take their names. A close up in the office, a Women clearly disturbed at having to do something. Not one piece of this footage was on any station not even PBS This has become Mcconnels Shutdown because they now have enough senators to override trumps veto. He will not bring it to a vote in the Senate, That's why those people were at his office today. Federal workers are eating at soup kitchens. This is America., not McConnell land he is disgusting
McConnell really is the lynchpin in this whole thing. HE is where the pressure needs to be applied, not Trump. Trump is amoral, so nothing one way or the other puts pressure on him. But McConnell... that's another story. Can you imagine what it would do to the President's authority going forward if his own party in the Senate votes, knowing he will veto, and knowing they will override it and end run around him? That may be the one reason he hasn't done it yet, knowing that it essentially turns him into a lame-duck from this point on. So, McConnell people... put the hurt on his office. Relentless calls. Emails. Facebook and twitter posts. Make them know the hurt and get a vote. Make sure they can overturn any veto and this shut down ends.
@empbac Because this is an absolutely core issue with his most ardent supporters. THIS is the issue he campaigned on more than any other. THIS is the one that matters most to the people that elected him. And he knows it. When asked why he doesn't just open the government his reply, after being pressed 3 times to answer, was "because I'd look silly doing that." He knows full well what the fallout of caving in would be. Before the shutdown, he was starting to talk about a compromise, until Fox News anchors started blasting him for being weak, and Rush Limbaugh as well. That very day he flipped into "shut it all down" mode. Right now he only maintains the control he does because Congress hasn't gone against him really on anything significant. Sanctions for Russia because the public demanded it and Congress is very attuned to that. But if they end run him on his most important policy platform that weakens his ability to govern... it's basically Congress saying, "fine, we'll be the adults and get things done." It won't with his base... literally nothing will, but in terms of Washington dynamics... it very much will, and that matters.

Although it's somewhere around 800K workers not being paid, This amount of voters is probably mixed on vote anyways and won't have much of an impact, but if most of them see it in a negative light blaming trump for it, then them and their immediate effected families and perhaps friends who were dragged into this helping them out, might sway them to change their votes for 20 20. It could have a ripple effect come 2020 elections.

Crooked Trump gave one State of the Union speech in two years of his presidency, but within one week after the Dems took over the House he already gave one such speech and in less than a week later after that he wants to give another! What gives? Seems to me Crooked Trump is simply desperate to convince his base to stick with him since he knows he's no longer given free rein to do whatever he wants!
Likewise, Crooked Trump and his gang of Republican thugs have two years to get their wall funded, but they couldn't since most of the Republicans felt like the rest of the country did ---- the wall is worthless and a waste of money! However, within a day or two after the Dems took over the House, Crooked Trump and his gang of Republican crooks immediately demanded their wall be built! What gives?
It seems Crooked Trump was badgered by several right-wing TV talking heads into pestering the Dems for the wall since they felt Crooked Trump and the Republicans haven't done enough to further advance their right-wing agendas! Ann Coulter (Racist white bitch), Sean Hannity (The bigot whose mouth spews out hate and lies like the worst case of diarrhea), and Rush Limbaugh (A fathead with a big racist lying mouth) have attacked Crooked Trump for not spreading enough racist agendas against the American people and have warned him of losing his racist white base, and because of such facts, they caused Crooked Trump to change his mind with the bill he had already made with the Dems that would have done many great things for the American people without investing money into that worthless wall! So essentially, what we have here is Crooked Trump makes nearly all of his decisions according to the whims of these right-wing talking heads that he sees on TV! They have way more input into Crooked Trump's everyday decisions than all of his entire staff of advisers and cabinet members! Sad!

Sadly, even though people can't pay rent/mortgages, feed themselves/families independently, people will respond collectively when it affects them, much like what Colbert describes here. Personally, I'm hoping I don't have to fly prior to this BS shutdown ending. I'm not thrilled about flying in an environment where staff responsible for safety and security aren't being paid.

Well this seems familiar. Trump has a long history of not paying his workers or contractors and laughing about it. I don’t think it’s going to go that well for him this time though.
My mother-in-law works for the government in the tax division and got the call to come in and work on Friday and isn't certain if there going to get payed for those hours.
