SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. I was more freaked out by this version than the '79. I've always considered this remake to be a bit underrated. Great acting and it freaked me out a few times when I was younger. This and the Texas Chainsaw remake at this time was honestly pretty good.
Both produced by Michael Bay himself
The reason being is because we are used to the types of scares and suspense that was initially original in the classics. So seeing new remade versions with modern techniques and ideas for scares and suspense, make these seem as good or better then the originals. Or underrated.
The exorcist was early 70s
Dude, Ryan was JACKED in this movie, it was like wtf does getting possessed get you jacked 😂
Yeah, the Exorcist was the early 70’s. Not 60’s.
Yeh….I stopped watching the video at that point.
@@sbslauk they always get facts wrong.
@@sconni666I'll give him a break because who has time to do a 10 second Wikipedia search😂
Well, the narrator did correct himself minutes later by noting the Exorcist was in fact released in 1973; so not sure what to make of that 60s reference either....
Ryan reynolds career was weird in the 2000s. He was doing these raunchy fun 2000s comedies like Just Friends, Waiting & Van wilder while also doing great work in serious movies like in this movie, Smokin Aces and Buried
The voices from 2014 was pretty weird too.
Don't forget blade lol. Lowkey can feel mannerisms he put into Deadpool.
He seemed like he was trying to subvert his attractiveness and prove he had talent ala Brad Pitt in the 90s. It’s interesting to go back and watch the path to Deadpool.
@@deadeyedmillennialmedia at the time, he probably didn't even know he would end up being Deadpool!
Yeah he wasn’t wade completely yet I have some of us earlier movies and you can tell the steppingstone that he’s doing now
I really dug this version of the movie. This movie really showed Reynolds acting chops and showed he could be more than Van Wilder
It's my guilty pleasure ❤
Do “the last house on the left” remake next!
On the list!
I enjoy it still to this day. A rewatch every few years.
Agree with ya, Adam Walton regarding the unoriginal modern Hollywood and their milking of classic franchises. It is why I stay clear of the modern stuff, and instead dive through the treasure trove of classics. This movie was ok, but the original still gives me the shivers down my spine anytime I rewatch it. The classics just do suspense so good.
Great video. Looking forward to the next one you cover, Adam.
Remakes my arse. In these days they're all just about badly rewriting, remixing, revomiting excellent movies from the past. It is a clear sign of lack of creativity, courage and integrity. And they all are basically shite for "modern (braindead) audiences".
True. Filmmaking is in a bad way at the moment, it's kind of embarrassing how they made better films 50 years ago with good writing and people involved before and behind the camera and today with all the CGI nowadays you'd think would enhance the imagination and the product but it really only limits it in a way.
It started with the Marvel “Universe”
They basically shot the same movie 30 times
The 1979 Amityville Horror Still Holds A Place In My Heart. The Original Is Always Best.
It’s closer to the book but this version is much scarier.
Melissa George went on to star in an underrated classic horror film, The Triangle.
Ah, this takes me back. I saw this in the theater. Didn’t find it scary, but I didn’t regret it either. I miss all those crappy 2005 horror movies, like “Boogeyman,” “White Noise,” and “Hide and Seek.” They were just dumb fun.
My DVD of Hide and Seek sits on the shelf gathering dust for years; might have another look
Oh, my dear Lord😫. The Exorcist was Not released in "the early 60's"! It premiered Dec. 26th 1973.
Narrator corrects himself about the date after that 60s blunder
I really enjoyed the DVD of the 2005 Amityville Horror remake.
I couldn't get all the way through this version, but I'm always glad to see the iconic half-crescent windows! Amityville 3D was better than expected, and features Meg Ryan in an earlier role and that actress who played Becky on Full House.
Becky IIRC, was Lori Laughlin, who may or may not still be in jail over that University bribery charge from many years ago?
Ryan Reynolds was pretty creepy in this movie.
Disagree, Ryan Reynolds is pretty 'delicious' in this movie. Shirtless in a white tight trouser 😋
@@VickyH-ej4mikeep it in your pants, Vicky
Fun, rewatchable, hidden gem in my opinion. Watched this with my teen daughters not that long ago and they also enjoyed it. No new ground broken, but sometimes you don’t have to
It wasn't a terrible remake and I liked it as a young man
My besties and I only watched this movie because of Reynolds abs (chopping wood shirtless). He’s also Canadian like us, so we were massive fans lol.
RR is certainly buffed in this one...
"When wete talk about a movie that came out almost 20 years ago"
Omfg....im old.......😢😢😢😂😂😅😅😅😢😮😮
last 20 years have just fucking flown by
I agree that Hollywood is making to many remakes but if u think about it. It is hard to come up with a whole new idea as even if you do it will be compared to stuff like it. So say u make a new horror with a killer they are always compared to others, same with action films and superhero films
I'll never get the hate for this one, one of the better haunted house movies and MILES better than the 70s original.
James Brolin. Heh! That's Thanos' dad...
Ryan Reynolds actually stayed up for days to get those bloodshot eyes. No contacts. I thought overall this one was good.
Unpopular opinion but I like the Amityville horror remake more then the original, but that’s not saying much cause I don’t find either really that good the only saving grace for me in the remake is Ryan Reynolds
I loved Ryan Reynolds since before he was a star but think he was miscast here and nothing beats the original. It was also unintentionally funny like when the dad is chopping wood and his biz partner comes to tell him all that’s been going wrong since he’s been MIA since he’s possessed and he screams at him “don’t you have any good news?”
Still better than The Omen remake.
This narrator sounds like me trying to read a novel aloud in english class 😂
A mint mobile ad playing during this, talk about timing lol this isn't a bad movie and as remakes go it's not the worst, but Ryan Reynolds really showed his talent and range here. Van Wilder may have hampered his ability to be taken more seriously at the time, but he's certainly shown his chops since then. The tweaks to the story and the heavy jumpscares I think are it's biggest detractors
I can't take film critics seriously when they call someone as famous as Rod Steiger, Ron.
Was this a reupload? You talked about the exorcist movie like it hasn’t come out yet. But it did a couple months ago.
This movie was very much "okay".
I actually liked the remake. Ryan Reynolds surprised me having only doing things like Van Wilder prior to this.
Tell me the father from the original amityville horror doesnt look like Christian bale with a beard
What I've never understood about remakes in general is why remake GOOD movies? I mean, I understand the guaranteed built-in audience. But when I think about re-doing something, I think about things I didn't get right the first time. Like why not remake movies that had a good story or cool concept, but were low budget and didn't quite pull it off or went under the radar. Or movies that were almost great but people hated the ending. I just feel like when the business side is the main objective, the industry forgets the point of telling stories in the first place. This results in the abundance of franchises and sequels and remakes that nobody really likes or cares about and don't really offer anything new artistically or philosophically but everyone goes to see anyways because they're familiar.
I’d like to see Mike Flanagan do a Amityville reboot. Then we might finally get a decent Amityville film.
Have you not seen the sequel? Many claim this to be THE best in the trilogy.. anything after this is mostly 💩
A remake of a classic movie rarely exceeds the quality and impact of the original. If a studio cannot produce an original movie that may one day may be a classic they are lazy and trying to generate revenue. It seems the passion of directors, producers etc. to produce a great movie these days is quite rare.
I don't care what anyone says, this was a good remake.
I love this movie ❤
Saw it in the theater way back when, and liked it better than the hammy, cornball original. While over the years I've learned to find Ryan Reynolds as a personality grating overall, I tune that out on the occasion I watch this.
It was good 👍
Reynolds said houses don't kill people, people kill people. Does he apply that logic with guns as well? (He should)
I love the 2005 version of amityville horror to this day better than the original -just saying.
Agreed
Jump scares are so incredibly lazy in most modern horror movies. Nothing can ever touch Exorcist III tho
I was 16 when this came out and I remember liking it a lot. But I was also 16 haha it was a good date movie
I admit that I didn't like this movie. But I give props to Ryan Reynolds. This movie shows that he can do serious, heavy roles. So there's that.
I've only seen it once when it was released, and for me doesn't have the creepiness of the original...its far too polished, if that makes sense.
Ryan Reynolds is less scarier in this movie than in the horrible Mint Mobile commercials that get overplayed.
I prefer this than the original tbh. The original doesn't hold up unfortunately
My heart is with the trilogy.. everything else is 💩
The actor for the character “Jodie” is a good friend of mine, who is such an awesome person! So cool to know her and that she played in this movie!
Decent remake
Um the exorcist:believer is not a remake clearly... I'm confused did you say the exorcist came out in the 60's? You mean 70's...
I blame Blumhouse for the wretched state of horror films. Other directors are working against the slog of shit produced for quick money.
As a young horror head i Hated this version growing up. I thought it was boring throughout and ended anti climactic.
I actually kinda liked this one. Ryan Reynolds is great.
It wasn't bad at all
Rachel Nichols looked so hot in that movie.
Tbh, the remake does NOT exist to me. I have never seen it and don’t plan to. I like Ryan Reynolds but I have no interest to see him play such a classic role. When it comes to the Amityville Horror my heart is with the trilogy I prefer the original and older films, anything after that is pretty much a waste.
Edit: the Psycho remake is a waste as well 😑
I think the best Amityville movie is still out there. The one that starts with the Defeo murders and the Lutz' and Defeo's lawyer making the story up and how they pulled it off.
WACKO FAMILY😎👍
It was an okayish movie
Can't stand this guy's accent, was actually looking forward to this vid.
So my sis and i watched this in theaters when it came out. Didnt love it but liked it.
When The Conjuring came out in 2013 which we loved. So one night decided to give Amityville remake a re-watch and omg we just laughed our asses off throughout thar entire movie. Its so bad. Its entertaining sure but holy hell is it bad lmaoooo
What's funny is this like the 10th video I've watched on your channel and your narrator trashes a movie but mostly all the comments disagree!!😜😜🤣🤣
I wasn’t a fan of either of them to be honest
I find realistic, horror movies based on true (non supernatural) stories to be scarier, because Jinkies! There's no such things as ghosts.
There's no such things as santa claus either; but here were are in december again....
As soon as someone mentions the shining and the high regard it should be held in, your opinion immediately becomes worthless. Yes, let's hear your regurgitate other shit you've heard too, or maybe form an actual opinion.
so you don't like The Shining then?
They blew it right out of the gate with this film. I had high hopes that it was going to follow closely to the book and this thing turned out to be a total shit show. Hopefully someday they will adapt a screen play a little closer to what j anson the author had intended
jay anson was a garbage author, who pissed all over the Lutz's reputation and made them a laughing stock.
Its awful photography is what happened to it.. 🤢Terrible remake, looks as bad the the original looked good...
Can someone explain to me what is up with these "WTF happened to?" titles? Nothing happened to it. Pretty sure you can still buy it. Is it just supposed to be some kind of click bait? If there is one thing I hate, it is being manipulated.
Total garbage movie. Ryan Reynolds can’t act to save his life. His only success is a Deadpool.
geez, everyone's a critic...
Remake has amazing effects.
Original has superior story, no imagined preacher death dealers.
