- If you're someone easily frightened by horror movies, finding comfort in the notion that it's just fiction becomes challenging when the storyline is rooted in reality. The horror genre has its share of films supposedly based on true stories, and in 2008, Bryan Bertino's cult classic, The Strangers, added to this list. Starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman, the movie drew inspiration from actual crime cases and the director's own experiences. Its success led to a sequel, albeit after a considerable wait. With the bar set high by the first installment in the home-invasion genre, the question arose: could the sequel, titled The Strangers: Prey at Night, surpass the original in terror? Join us on a journey to unravel what transpired in this chilling road trip to hell.

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Seeing The Strangers opening weekend was one of the best theater experiences I’ve ever had. You could hear a pin drop. People were so captivated.
Agreed, saw late in the middle of nowhere and was creepy even walking to car in empty lot
I remember that! The tension was so intense and unsettling
The first “Strangers” movie was a sincere home invasion thriller that used the masks as a way to keep the characters anonymous. The fact they were unsettling was just a bonus.
Prey At Night takes those anonymous characters and attempts to make them stand with icons such as Jason or Ghostface in having them placed in straightforward slasher dynamics. In an effort to bank off the recent 80s craze, a neon aesthetic was added along with licensed music in place of orchestration and stealth.
Yes and no. The cinematography is quite predatory and offers shots that could be also viewed as the POV of the killer, i think the attempt to iconify these characters was successful. I also appreciate how they built them up as enigmatic legends, but in this sequel, they actually get killed. For people who have trouble letting the bad guys win this movie certainly offers that closure
The scene in the swimming pool was an instant classic.
Surreal. The lights in shape of trees, at night, Total Eclipse of my Heart singing in the background. Very nicely nightmarish but not too over the top.
I absolutely love this movie. Starts a little slow, but once things ramp up at the pool scene, it's absolute chaos until the credits. Hearing "making love out of nothing at all" when Kinsey throws the lighter is one of my favorite scenes ever.
"The Stangers" was a creepy home invasion movie. I felt bad for the James character because he accidentally shot his friend, Mike. He was a golden God who had yet to Peak. You know.. because of the implications.
He was untethered and he rage knew no bounds
What was he gonna do, say no?
@@lizzydanger8521 of course if he said no it would be no, but he wouldn't say no...... because of the implication
Watched this recently and it was waaaaaaaaaaaay better than I expected. Gorgeously shot and had some great, intense scenes throughout. Oh, and the 80s soundtrack and general style was great!
This movie is entertaining for the wrong reasons. The cliche of the characters making the dumbest decision possible in any given situation is dialed up to 11 in this film. They top themselves at every turn and it's maddeningly glorious.
I think it's to showcase how screwed most suburbanites would be in such a situation

Family sitcom characters would make better decisions. The bad decisions are made by both the victims and the villains in this film. The decisions are written to set up the scenes. It's just not a well executed film. I'd put it in the so bad it's good category.
@@Sticks_of_Truth wow, so you just have never seen truly bad movies then? 🤣 Just "they did dumb thing so movie is so bad it's good" that's not how those movies get those titles but alright
@@Sticks_of_Truth "the decisions are written to set up the scene" you described every single movie ever, congratulations

You're lost.
I loved strangers pray of night I thought it was better than the first.
It’s just subtle. Watching the brother fight in the pool you actually get the feeling he might make it. It’s little touches like that makes it work but hobbles the scares from the strangers themselves
It wasn’t too bad. I felt the characters making stupid decisions was used too much in this movie. The deaths of each parents relied too much on them being so terrified that they just didn’t fight back. The death of the mom was way too dumb. I felt that it made her and the daughter way too weak. I can’t see too grown women THAT afraid of a single woman with a knife. Especially when they’re in a house full of heavy objects to beat her with. If the parents had put up more of a fight like the kids, it would have been better.
Yeah but when she catches them off guard and they know what she’s capable of, they probably didn’t want to risk being stabbed/slashed
Glad I got to experience it's theatrical debut
I recently rewatched prey at night and liked it a lot. Went down a rabbit hole and saw that their is a trilogy coming up from this same franchise so im pretty excited. Also i was getting the 1st movie mixed up with vacancy probably because 2 brunettes in a room with 2 guys being terrorized. Also i love the collector and collection movies!
i saw this before i saw the original, so i think it's really great
The strangers trio gotten sloppy with their stealth and guile techniques. The 2008 strangers is far superior.
Ahh damn, get this guy some ginger ale or something.
Prey at Night was fun, i liked it a lot
Anytime I see a horror movie with “Based on a True Story” attached to it, I immediately take it down a point or two. I was so angered by The Fourth Kind for exploiting real peoples deaths and duping audiences into thinking the “found footage” used in the film was genuine. Didn’t help that the movie sucked.
Everything is based on a true story for the most part...what hasn't happened these days
Have you seen this movie drunk 🍾. That will fix the experience
Was it scary? No
Was it entertaining? Hell yeah
Wow only 2 hours ago
The first one is one of my favorites
I remember wanting this to be good but I just found it to be dull.
The First Installment Is Still The Best One.
"Oh my god there's a banging at the door!"
went into prey at night blind, having not seen the first strangers at the time. Generally, wasn't a fan of PaN.
I liked the sequel tbh
I like the 1st movie but didn't care for this one maybe I need to go rewatch it again
I think they should retcon the second one.
And Bring Liv Tyler back to hunt down the strangers for revenge.
That’s dumb
I like it a lot better than the first one
I didn't like that they showed their faces, the scary thing about the first one is that we never saw the.
Do The Incredible Hulk Next please.😊
The sequel is much better! The scene featuring Air Supply's Making Love Out of Nothing at All alone is pure gold!!!
I actually preferred this sequel to the original. But maybe because the original was a pretty blatant rip off of the French film, "Ils" ("Them").
cant wait for the new trilogy !! :DD
🙀🙀
I legitimately love this film. It's leaps and bounds better than the first one and it's truly understands the slasher genre.
Director Johannes Roberts is amazing and a highly underrated director. Hope people appreciate him more eventually.
Loved the first one part 2 sucks ass
The sequel was the campiest horror movie i’ve ever seen, in a good way
Ders ah Geordie da doe. Dune oypen.
I just can't do the whole video with this AI voice it's too grading on my ears
It’s not AI
I love Prey at Night, I found the 1st ok but was bored 🥱🐾💜
As always Adam equals a thumbs down.
This movie is dogshit. Nothing but infuriating to watch
Not a fan of home invasion movies 🤷♂️
