    Definitely not a competitive race buggy but i love mine. You know when you're carrying it back to the garage with a big smile on your face, Tamiya did something right. Great video as always, keep up the good work. From one Craig to another, two big thumbs up!

      Hey Craig, many thanks for watching 🙌🏻👍🏻 Having done this series of hop ups I have learnt that even Tamiya’s most basic chassis can provide hours of fun both on and off the track. The RF even performed fairly well round my Orchard Raceway last year in the time trials. 😁

      Hey Dom, the Rising Fighter is a hidden gem in Tamiyas line up for me. It has out performed my expectations as a little pocket rocket! I still have a few more tricks in store for it too! Thanks for watching dude 🙌🏻👍🏻

      Cheers Brent, always good to get them on the bench and see what happens when you start swapping stuff out. The Rising Fighter, DT and TT chassis give plenty of scope for that at reasonable prices 😎

    Yeah Craig . Once a hopper always a hopper. I did loads of similar changes to mine when I first had it but it still just hops happily along hehe. Great video and hop-ups mate.

      Hey Rob, many thanks for watching matey 🙌🏻👍🏻 You can’t easily take the hopper out of a hopper can you! All the upgrades have allowed it to take some extra power so it was all worth it! 🚀

  • @MarkBryanRC
    @MarkBryanRC Před rokem +3

    Nice one, Craig! The Tamiya CVA shocks are definitely better. That thing with the front shocks not returning (not lifting the nose) you can't test it on the bench. I reckon they are working OK, better to be soft. The front wont return because the wheels splay out when you push the nose down, due to the swing arm suspension lower arms. Then the friction of the tyres on the bench stops the wheels from sliding back to the narrower track, if that makes sense? Anyway, great fun, all the best, matey! :))

    • @theoagrc
      @theoagrc  Před rokem +1

      Hey Mark, thanks for watching matey 🙌🏻👍🏻 It actually seems to work better when under driving conditions as the front doesn’t really come under that level of compression. It was super fun playing about with this chassis and I still think I have some extra to get out of it. Some Schumacher’s arrived the other day to help 😁

    That's nice to follow along, I think the one I got that is most similar is the Fighting buggy RX memorial, I basically haven't done much to fix it, no idea if it helps... But still good to test, it's just as much a mind game as anything, good way to use the brain cells. I'm loving the Tie Fighter look, and I love that race course of yours!

      @theoagrc  Před rokem

      Hey 👋🏻 Thanks for watching as always my friend 🙌🏻👍🏻 It is fun to try and improve these basic chassis models. The RX is similar but this one has a different battery position (more like the grasshoppers). They are robust RCs that are well suited to my Orchard Raceway 😁

    Hi there Craig, a great set of upgrades to the Rising Fighter. Oil shocks certainly are better, albeit, perhaps still some tweaking to be done to the oil weights. Some adjustments to the front steering, due to the upgraded 3mm rods. You mentioned taking the rear brace back out, as the rear was bouncy still, I think the young Mr Wylie has the 5th Shock mod to his Lunchbox, I was wondering if this idea could be applied to the Rising Fighter? Perhaps with a light weight oil, you’ll get that flexibility, but dampened, just an idea. Anyway great work. Take care and best wishes to you and the family 😊😉😁

    • @theoagrc
      @theoagrc  Před rokem +1

      Thanks John! I will take a look into the 5th shock mod on the hopper. Might be a future upgrade to the old girl as we go forward! At least with all these mods she is ready for a bigger motor! Thanks for watching matey 👍🏻🙌🏻

    Love to know what kind of rare metal or precious stones that Tamiya make the CBA shocks out of, as to covert the price they charge, there has to be an element of Unicorn Wee in them or something 🤣🤔

    • @theoagrc
      @theoagrc  Před rokem

      There is something in them which contributes to the extraordinary price but also the out of the box functionality for me. The TRF ones must be packed with some alien alloy 🔥 Thanks for watching dude 👍🏻🙌🏻

  • @KaiCityRC
    @KaiCityRC Před rokem +1

    Interesting video. 👍I would have thought your mods would have made a little more difference. I'm currently looking at what mods to do to my Grasshopper 2 for next months race, and my first mod will be sorting out the rear suspension. I think for a smooth, high grip carpet track, locking off the rear will be beneficial. But for a bumpy off road track, it might, like you suggest actually reduce traction.
    As for the front rebound, I'm no expert, but I'd imagine a little more preload would help. Also make sure the suspension isn't binding anywhere, that might stop it returning to normal ride height.

    • @theoagrc
      @theoagrc  Před rokem

      Hi David, thank you for watching 👍🏻🙌🏻 I think you are right that locking on a nice smooth track would be beneficial but on the Orchard Raceway it is limiting. The front rebound seems to correct itself in future videos due to a upgrade on the shocks 😎

    It does seem a bit stiff in the rear. Mine chatters a bit but not as bad as yours. I am trying to remember if I am running the kit springs on them or the springs that came with the shocks. I will have to take a look tomorrow and see. Shock tuning can be a pain in the rear especially with that hopper style rear end!

    • @theoagrc
      @theoagrc  Před rokem +1

      Hey Addam, I am sure I saw somewhere that you should always try and use kit springs when changing shocks so might have a look at that also. I am convinced that the rear brace has mad things tricker on the Orchard Raceway so it will probably come off for the 2023 season and see if that makes things better also. Although it can now take a peppier motor so clearly the handling mods helped out somewhere 😁 Thanks for watching dude 🙌🏻👍🏻

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground Před rokem +1

      @@theoagrc In some cases I think sticking with the stock springs is good but the stock ones on this buggy are way too stiff I think and the springs with the oil dampers would probably soften it up a lot and be able to get that power down without all the obnoxious hopping and skipping. Worth a try for sure!
