    just looking at the driving. this thing has barely any suspension going on. there are dampers and springs but especially the rear does exactly nothing. it would need softer oil and softer springs. it has to have some sag otherwise its like riding it on bumpstops all day long which isnt going to do it any favor. with that high of an angle of the whole rearend its also kind of questionable if and how this lower slidy-part of that rear piece is working. is it even working still? or is it forced into the endstops all day long? for any buggy to work nice they are better off beeing lower to the ground but have alot of negative suspensiontravel available so if they get kicked up slightly and they will get kicked up(its a buggy!) there is alot of travel left in the suspension to keep tires on the ground. and also bottoming out on buggy makes them quite more predictable in some ways too. you just need them high enough so the dont ground themselves in a given terrain

    • @lamarcdesign
      @lamarcdesign Před rokem +1

      btw those rear tires are quite nice for this given terrain. nice bite - very plush - conforms to the ground nicely. you could try different front tires to remove this on throttle understeer but would require to adapt driving style because you would always want a little throttle then to no make it snap turn on you. but tamiya 2wd buggy needs very grippy front in general so that the rear can dive around and the front is consistently tracking the direction instead of pushing around that frontend by throttle. just some suggestions.
      i call a dt03 my own and had a dt01 in the past. both needed the same treatment to be fast and predictable. grippy front - buggy style suspension setup allowing it to bottom out on frame, locking paste in rear to even furter the controlled sliding behaviour. it will like it. usually a bit harder springs in the front then rear but rear harder oil because of all the weight works fine

      Hey 👋🏻 two absolutely awesome comments packed full of awesomeness 🙌🏻 i think you are right about the stance still being too high and the shocks too firm. It still needs more playing with the suspension. I have some Schumacher fronts on my DT03 which transformed the buggy but I worry on this chassis it will just bite and flip round every corner. Despite its high position on the track it still does ok. I have a stock kit to build thanks to Thad and Grayson at Iowa RC so Mini OAG and I are going to get them done and then head to head them on the track to see how much of a difference I have really made! Thanks so much for watching and your great comments 👍🏻

    Woah Craig, you didn't hold back on that test run! Great fun, matey! Ahh, the good old Rising Fighter, it's a little so and so when it comes to upgrading! I found it really difficult to get anything to make it handle better, I think I've tried most of the things you have done. The main thing is to get it lower, as you have also worked out. I shortened the front shocks and the rears, put the softest oil in the dampers and the softest springs in my spares box. Finally got it to work a little better, but only a little! Keep fettling mate, you WILL find the sweet spot! Have a smashing weekend, bud!

      Hey Jeremy, thanks for watching my friend 🙌🏻👍🏻 Yeah the handling is tuned at this point and I will likely leave the motors for the Orchard Raceway series to determine. I think we’ll see this chassis get pretty close to the top 4 this year. 🚀

    If the hop up made it funner and brings a smile to your face than that’s the main thing! I personally think the hop up you did on this improved its stance if not anything else . I would be pleased with it if it were mine. As long as it still remains somewhat controllable and doesn’t take away from the fun! Great hop up and point made in this video brother!

    Great mods and awesome no holds bared testing mate. I did the opposite to my Rising Fighter but once a hopper always a hopper I'm afraid. But, but as you say on of the most fun buggies per pound you can have. Great stuff mate and all the best.

    Hi there Craig, it seems your conclusion is maybe Tamiya have already factored the the most fun factor per pound into this great budget RC. Your efforts were great, but it’s Tamiya’s way only for this great kit. Looks awesome on the Orchard Raceway. Take care and best wishes to my all 😉😊😁

    • @theoagrc
      @theoagrc  Před rokem +1

      Hey John, seems to be that way. The oil filled shocks did the most for it as expected. It performs way above expectations and I think it will be up there again next season. Thanks for watching my friend 👍🏻🙌🏻

    Good to see your persevering with the RS :) not criticising what your doing at all but sometimes with these very basic Tamiya , bearings, oil shocks and a sport tuned is all you need to do really just because of there design. It’s probably been mentioned already , but getting the whole chassis lower Will help . Look forward to seeing what else you come up with

    • @theoagrc
      @theoagrc  Před rokem

      Hey Andy, thanks for watching. It started out as an experiment to see if the handling improvements on the basic Tamiya really made a difference. The reality is that on the bumpy amateur Orchard Raceway it didn’t, but it was a load of fun!
      I think the chassis needs some more refinement but there are some other projects taking over now before I start work on the track for next year! Looking forward to see that Raider built dude 😎🙌🏻👍🏻

    Maybe you'll try some lighter oil in the rear. The angle of the shocks is better for a car with a bouncing front. The front of your car is very good balanced. Great and very informative video Craig.

    I need to mess around with mine and see what I can do to it. I wonder of hornet or lunch box rear shock mount would help it. I think I have some I can try. It would put the shock behind the rear end which may soften it up some. It has been a fun series seeing what did and didn't help it!

    Much like the Grasshopper, I don't thing the R.F. will ever handle very well. It's just in their nature! As the others have said, lower it down as much as possible, replace the springs with much softer ones and the oil too and it will help quite a bit. It's all good fun though, and their poor handling is part of their charm! 😁

    Hiya Craig!!! Great Video Mate!! Handling & consistency DO make the lap times faster, your on to something buddy. Overall speed wont change (till you put the other motors in) but then you have to think about the handling again, will the buggy handle any better at a greater speed? Might be time to change the shock oil and/or the springs. However, I'm not clear on your goal with the buggy, faster? handling? lower lap times? ATB my friend, to you & yours!!!!

    • @theoagrc
      @theoagrc  Před rokem +1

      Hey Bob, thanks for watching dude. I was hoping this was going to be faster round the track than stock which I think it is. However, you raise a good point. Faster motor changes the handling so we might be back to square one 😂 end of the day it has been fun and we’ll probably see this little buggy up there in the mix this year again.

  • @RCsoandso

    The BZ Motor is an RC So & So favorite, so yes wedge one of those in. Maybe whack a cable tie around the entire back end to make the shocks shorter before you tinker with anything permanent. Also you have forgotten something, if you want a car to go fast the must do thing that will have the most impact and naturally increase the speed to make it the fastest out there, is to obviously paint a stripe down the side 🤣😂👍🚙⏪

    • @theoagrc
      @theoagrc  Před rokem +1

      😂🤣 Now you are on to something!! The BZ motor will give this thing a rocket and maybe we’ll do it for fun before the next Orchard Raceway series. I like the idea of the cable tie to see what happens 🤔 Thanks for watching dude 🙌🏻👍🏻

    Nice video series. Are there softer rear springs available? The current springs seem like they are too stiff and cause the rear to be quite bouncy. Looking forward to further updates on this car. 👍🏻
