Modern 2WD division takes to the Orchard Raceway this week.
First up is the Tamiya Rising Fighter bouncing around the track.
Then we see the Tamiya DT03, runner up from 2022. It is out for redemption after a very poor showing in 2023.
Derek the Tamiya Holiday Buggy follows with plenty of oomph this year from a RZ motor paired with a carbon chassis.
Bringing up the rear is the Tamiya TD2 which was a finalist in 2022 but also had a tough season in 2023.

Great competition Craig and the quote of the video was "And you can just see the bell-end there"!!!!! 🤣🤣 Fell off my chair laughing! But yeah, poor old Rising Fighter needs relegating to the hopper class. As for the others, I thought it was pretty close. New tyres for Derek and I think the buggy would be transformed. Same for the front's on the TD2 plus a little power boost for that as well. But we could go on forever changing parts and this result is what it is! I personally love the DT03 and I'm glad it smashed that lap time. Loving it mate! 😎😎💙💙👍👍
Oh I am glad someone noticed that 😂🤣 recording late and night tired makes for some interesting commentary but I thought it was too good to take out 😁
As you know the OR is all about those incremental changes each season to build on the competitiveness of the buggies. The RF will move on and then the slower of the TD2 and the Holiday Buggy gets and nice little boost! New tyres seem like a logical choice for Derek. Watching the slow-motion DT-03 v.s. Rising Fighter is hilarious! That RF Solid Rear Gearbox really does hinder jump performance. Bouncy, bouncy! Haha!
The DT-03 looked so plush on those landings. Too bad that piping jumped out in the way and ruined some hot laps! :)
Derek and his RZ looked really great out there, but tough to hook up that rear end, isn't it?

The poor RF is destined for the Hopper Class next year and we’ll have a little shift about to make some space in the modern 2WD category for some thing new 🤔

Hey Mauzy, I think so too! It was getting faster and faster and then I stuffed it into the pipes!! I am sure it will put some fast laps in during the finale for sure. Vintage 2WD next up pal 🙌🏻
DT 02 looked great! The Holiday Buggy sounds sweet with the sported tuned in it.
It was just another one of those years for poor Derek! Maybe next year but the DT03 is in with a shot of taking the 2024 title! Wonder if the TT02B will find a way into the finale for a 2022 rematch??

Hiya Craig. Oh yeah I thing that the lovely soft springs and nice damping on the DT-03 made it unbeatable until you stuffed it under the barrier. All nice buggies though and could easily have been a different result. Great stuff mate 😁👍👍
Yeah I have always struggled keeping the DT03 on the straight and narrow!!! It has a low front end which conveniently sticks under the pipes!!

Derek and his glorious bell end done very well to as expected, those superstock RZ motors always sound sweet!
Rising fighter pretty much done as expected, definitely a buggy more for the hopper category like you said..... far more of a hopper than the trusty frog that's for sure.
DT03 performed very well, which comes as no surprise..... and bearing in mind how much simpler, and cheaper it is to the TD2 really done a great job.
A well deserved win in my eyes.
Very enjoyable viewing for a Friday night.
Now, onto the vintage 2wd.....i wouldn't mind betting we see some quicker laps from the classic buggies, especially bearing in mind their racing heritage!

DT03 is divisional champ for the 2WD Modern cars! I was surprised it wasn’t Derek but it just shows the importance of tyres!!
The TD2 is remarkable given the hop ups on the other two and it is so easy to drive fast! It will be back for 2025 and we’ll be closer to the others I am sure!
Vintage 2WD next and one of my favourite classifications and trust me…. It does not disappoint 😁

Great shoot-out runs with them and I am not terribly surprised with the results. From watching the video I can see where some were a bit better out there. The DT03 is a great running buggy and with the new tires it was hooking up great around the track. The Rising fighter really needs some softer springs on it, it is way too rigid. That stiff ride is bouncing it all over and not allowing the shocks to cycle. Derek needs those tires on it both for rear grip but mostly the front grip to get it to turn sharper, it was pushing the front around the turns a lot. The TD2 seemed to do ok possibly some more front grip from new tires and maybe a bit more motor would help. Overall great runs and I am glad to see the trusty old Neo Fighter up on the winners stand for this round. I do think they are great buggies. Great video Craig and I look forward to the next round!
Addam, your comments exactly sum up my assessment following these runs. The DT03 goes into its second Finale with a blistering time round the OR! Tyres play a huge part in a successful run for the buggy. I think a change for the Derek is on the team budget for 2025 but the TD2 might have to live with its shoes for another year. Maybe a TT motor for that chassis next spring to help it onwards (but I am not looking forward to taking that apart again!!)
The RF needs a different class as it can’t keep up with the big boys. You are right on the shocks but I am not sure even that would save it!!

Cheers Glenn. The RF is relegated and we’ll rotate something else into this class to try and compete with these guys. The DT03 proved the class of that buggy but I feel the ST motor was the real star and those ballistic buggy tyres!

I know it was a mismatch but the TD2 went really well considering! The DT03 goes for the title and that pleases me but the TD2 is a nice drive. Just need to work out why the buggy doesn’t jump as well?

Thats how a super stock tz sounds. It might have gotten some dirt in it due being a open can
Go dt03.... coincedently the dt03 is my first self built rc as well... i love it. It is one of the cheapest and one of the sturdiest tamiyas... i have the neo fighter and the racing fighter. I love both. I think the neo fighter is a bit und better suited for racing because its body Covers the electronics better and it doesnt collect as much dirt...
Anyways, great Video... i think the dt03 has a chance at overall victory this year

I like the longer wheelbase of the DT-03. Maybe it is an advantage...
I think it helps out on the OR but it also makes the car more difficult to keep out of the pipes too 😂🤣

Hey there Bob! The TD2 will be up there at some point I know it! It drives so consistently but it lacks the power on that silver can that the others have! Although there are faster silver can runners than the TD2 as you will see…..

Maybe some softer springs on the rising fighter Craig or loosen the collars. I think the Dt-03 will take the win with that 6 sec. Rear springs seam soft on the astute.
Great idea Jay. The RF shocks are a bit of a dog so thinking of getting some better ones there all together. The DT03 was amazing but I think the 4WD models will put in a shift too! The TD2 needs some looking at as it really struggled over the jump. It went really well in 2022 over a jump so I think it either needs tweaking or it just can’t cope with this particular one. Derek is running oil filled shocks Paul but I think he really needs a new pair of shoes 😁
New shoes are always a plus, and those tires that are on there now are notoriously poor. Stock tires.... boooooo
