The Reason Russell Westbrook Forgot How to Shoot

- Russell Westbrook and good shooting are not words you often hear together in the same sentence (unless it's someone saying that Russell Westbrook is not good at shooting). However, in the past few years, the Brodie has defied expectations-as he often does on the basketball court- and Westbrook has become unequivocally and inexplicably worse at shooting. It started near the end of his tenure with the Thunder in Oklahoma City alongside Paul George, continued in Houston with the Rockets alongside James Harden, persevered in Washington with the Wizards alongside Bradley Beal, and more than likely will continue in LA with the Lakers alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. As an OKC fan I always wish the for Mr Russell Westbrook, but I'm not blind enough to not recognise his falling shooting efficiency, even if he wasn't ever particularly great at shooting to begin with. These are the reasons Russell Westbrook has forgotten how to shoot

The lack of dunks isn't his athleticism declining, but his knees. There's a reason he's icing them and sitting out back to backs. They're not going to last much longer until he needs surgery again. Also, another factor in his recent decline is the lack of a crowd. Westbrook feeds off the crowd's energy, and the quiet is probably throwing him off and making it tough to get that boost he thrives off.
He been icing his knees since he was 20
ay looks like he got it figured ouut now
this aged well
Injuries and knee injuries are a very common cause of the acceleration in the decline of players athleticism. Wade, Rose, KG, Chuck, Moses, Wilkins with Achilies, Kobe, How many countless times have we seen injuries have that kind of impact on players athleticism? Brodie is 32 and starting to have more and more injury issues and he refuses/is unable to adjust his game. His best years are behind him and downhill from here.
@@timbarklow8811 dude wth you talking about. He's basically carrying the Wizards right now.
This was actually pretty interesting everybody should share it
I concur
Nigga what?? I don’t even shared videos I like. Let a lone fake shit. I didn’t even watch the first 10 second
@@George-Cancel okay?
@@randomperson2540 Lmao
My guy this is one of the best structured, informed, and funniest videos I have seen in a while, liked, subed looking forward to seeing more
Thanks man I appreciate that
"Unequivocally more shit " 😂😂😂
Brilliant video! Accurate and entertaining to boot.
How tf does he only have 2k subs he good af
Great video .. had a fun time watching
Nice video as always! Never stop grinding !
Cheers man
This is a great video and actually makes sense
you never fail to make interesting videos, can’t wait to watch this one🙏
Thanks man hope you enjoyed it
Nicely made video!
Thanks man
Love the video. Too bad it’s not looking good for the wizards right now. I’m hoping they can get it together and make it to the playoffs, which is still in the conversation since it’s so early in the season.
Thanks man.
And yeah this season has unfortunately been terrible for the Wizards. Making the playoffs is looking less than likely, but if they can pull off a good stretch of winning they can definitely at least make the 10th seed, which gives them the chance to make the playoffs through winning the play-in games. And hey at the moment they're beating the Nuggets. A win today would give the Wizards a three game winning streak. So perhaps they're in the process of pulling off a good stretch to get them back in playoff contention
bruhh I didn't even know I was subbed to you but this video was mad funny
I agree,
watching Russ since KD runaway...
He simply needs a 60-30-20 TD to clear his head and get back on track with his shots:)
Thx4theVid!
Thumbs up
The lakers should’ve watched this before trading for him
Great video great points most people just go straight hater mode and claim that he can’t play basketball anymore even tho he plays for the most part the same 🤘🏿🙏🏿
He was the master of that back early 2010. But ever since he chases 3ple double he's shooting suffered heavily those days he was shooting 80% from FT line. All he has to blame is himself
nice video
Too much muscle gain can actually zap athleticism because you are getting heavy, that’s why Derrick rose talks about how he should have been even lighter ideally
Also great content!
true to a degree, just depends on the sport/position
I always pictured shooting a basketball like a catapult or a trebuchet. Just one smooth motion that is quick and gets rid of any hitches that could slow it down.
this is beautiful
Ur real gd at this dude keep it up
Thanks man
14:50
I'm freakin laughing at that Zion photoshop non stop for 30secs dude🤣
Always gotta stop and watch when red thunder posts a video
Thanks man
Lmao the part where it bounces off of backboard and then shoots again and air balls was super funny, but he might just have to adapt with age running around and relying on athleticism can wear you out and bang up body. He probably just needs to slow down a little and isolate his jumper and free throw
I also feel like the rockets and wizards tried to play off of him but did it poorly. They wanted a 5 out offense in houston and got it but had to run tucker at center. Now Westbrook has spacing, but all of Brooks rotations involve len or robin lopez who aren't shooters, so he has to be forced to shoot due to a clogged paint. I feel like Wizards trading len and TBJ for a stretch 5 will help him out a ton, since he can still blow by a lot of guard in the NBA
It's also a shame that the Wizards lost Thomas Bryant to injury this season. He could legitamitely shoot it from three
I shall pick option: All of the above
this aged well 😂
Very well 😂
Rusty buckets picked an odd day to make his Westbrook video🙄
He did too
@@RedThunder it’s ok u probably look more like a human than he does
@@wondermcthunder8835 lmao shots fired. Nah Rusty is cool. I just look like a white guy
He had a quad injury
I honestly believe that Westbrook has the YIPS just like Chuck Knoblauch (who couldn't throw properly from 2nd base to first base).
25%!?!? god damn
He is quite buffed for a PG
G.O.A.T
Gonna kill it with LA!
Thay comment didn't age well
I cried watching this video deadass😂😂🤦🏾♂️👎🏾
Russ still my favorite player of all time no matter how people hate him
His upper body became too shredded
Who is here after the okc game?
Its called confidence bro.
I don’t really count that air all in the bubble he was shooting his best he ever shoot from the field with the rockets he had no legs he was on one leg with. A quad injury and just coming back from Covid
Russell Westbrook is a good player that wants to be great Russell Westbrookwas put in a position in OKC to average a triple-double to keep him happy as a Durant left in the way that he left and speaking on the way that the red left the rent and braced Russell Westbrook and then drop him like a hot potato that was wrong on the ranch part that's the only positive feeling I have for Russell Westbrook but he's a good player that wants to be great
worst of 2:55 6:00 7:58
Watching this in 2021 off season and Russ shot 31.5% from 3 🔥
Sadly free throws got back to career low 65.6%. Those might actually be different issues, idk
Yeah he's literally just forgotten how to shoot FTs lol. It's wild. This off season though I've seen him practising three point shots with much less jump his shot (something I suggested in this vid) and instantly it looks more fluid and smoother. With LeBron setting him up for wide open catch and shoot threes, maybe this is the year Russ takes a real jump in his 3pt shooting
You shouldn't mock. All praise and thanks goes to God
When Washington is 0-5 🤦🏽♂️
easy sub
Thanks man
I sometimes shoot the ball after the Apex of my jumps and they go in and some of my friends find it funny and irritating 😂
Simple answer. He's a headcase.That has implications.
I’ve been saying all this russ is my guy and my favorite player of all time but nobody believes me especially when I say 2017-2018 was the last year of his peak athleticism
Come on, his free throw routine had to change
And he's been worse off ever since
@@RedThunder but it’s not his fault they changed the rules with free throws
No it's not. But it's a still a reason for his FT shooting declining
Wdym? Wasn’t Westbrook a poor shooter for his whole career in the NBA?
He was always a pretty good mid range shooter and a good ft shooter
@@easymoney9719 he was never good in the midrange
@@ozzee5094 wtf are you talking about?? Russ is a career 40% shooter from 10-16ft and 16-3pt on a high volume of shots. That's not great but it's definitely solid if you consider the volume of shots. In his prime he was shooting like 44% from mid range. He's led the league in FGM at the elbows a couple of times as well.
@@billpap.9669 you’re wrong and you’re lying. From 3 to 10 feet for his career Westbrook shoots 32 percent. From 10 to 16 feet for his career he shoots 39 percent. From 16 feet to the 3pt line Westbrook’s for his career shoots 38.6 percent. These are poor percentages especially from 3 to 10 feet that one in particular is horrific
@@billpap.9669 now tell me wtf you’re talking bout fool
15:17 Hahahaha. KD, sssss...
Well this video didn't age well at all lol...Turns out the "decline" in his athleticism was actually injuries...
No he clearly still isn't as athletic as he was in 2018 and is shooting the worst free throw percentage of his career
I have jacked up knee and I don’t even play because of it but I’ll shoot and mess around and literally within a wk depending how my knee feels is def the difference in my shot. If my knee is really agitated I won’t hit a shot to save my life but maybe next wk if starts feeling better will make 3,4,5 shots in a row possible miss and repeat and I’m even running around. Injuries are a B
He’s balling rn tho, how you feeling bout it ?
I'm happy asf man
@@RedThunder mannn the game against the Hawks gonna be an emotional one if he breaks the record, Russ deserves all this. From back up PG in UCLA to now one of the all-time greats in the game today - I’m ready for it 🙌
I think he definitely will. With no Beal it's gonna be all Russ this game. And damn that Pacers game the other day ended so perfectly for him with the game winning free throws and block
Did he break a finger and he just played thru it like Kobe did for years
I hate his game.
2 feet 2 the basket, it dont work big red
Yo dude I saw you reply in my notifications but for some reason I can't see the comment. Idk if CZcams deleted it or something
@@RedThunder yeah wtf, check out shotmechanics he has 2 decent videos that break down Russ's form. Interesting watching this video with those ones in mind, all makes a lot of sense. Nice vid
Can't jump anymore.
His skill game is trash so game over.
Was great but no more.
Great career.
Bron and mj faced the same problem and beat it but sadly my favorite player couldn’t do the same
Bron don’t be hitting his free throws lmao 😭 he’s worse than Westbrook. LeBron IQ is what saves him lmao.
@@kingcarterslums4400 tell me what his 3 point percentage is and you say IQ saves him as if it is not a skill
hi
The funny thing is, nowadays 34.3% from deep isn't even that good; it's average at best.
It's definitely below average lmao. Average is around 36% I think if not higher. But was still amazing for Russ by his standards
@@RedThunder for sure. I just meant that it seems not that long ago (in particular before the rise of the Warriors) that that percentage from deep would have been seen as pretty dec. It's funny how much things have changed in the way we perceive certain stats.
"Alpha dog mentality" ?!
LMAO he's Sensitive as hell. Easy to get in his head
Never seen a better illustration of the Fake tough guy than him.
Kevin Garnett has the title for greatest fake guy
@@RedThunder really ? why ? im not very familiar with his career...
Just because his whole thing was screaming in people's faces all game non stop, however when he ignites some sort of retaliation from other players his size he runs away. However the players he doesn't back away from are nearly always short European guards. It's a trend that can be observed over his entire career
@@RedThunder sad lol
: Y
: Why not
LMAO
I think russ turn off the water and but bricks and air in it not sure what happen lul
Really long video to say Russell Westbrook is a crap decision maker. I can't stand his approach to the game. Plays to pad his stats ...most selfish player to average 10 assists.
LONG LIVE WEED
