This is my review of the OG Valkyria Chronicles for the Nintendo Switch! Enjoy :) Donations Welcome: www.paypal.me/Reviews2Go Support Me on Patreon: / reviews2go
As a little correction, this game is in fact the remastered ps4 version, with all DLC's included, and just a bit more optimized for the switch version. So you got that wrong, it's even stated on the EShop and Segas page for the game.
Even the PC version has audio issues if your Windows audio settings aren't set carefully, Though they're not the same as the ones you mentioned. I guess they just couldn't figure that part out.
Really solid review. This made me want to go buy it when I get off work. The series seems really cool and I have been looking for a good story game for my switch
I played and loved but did not finish it on my PS3. I still have the disk and made a backup of it so I'll surely play it on PC through RPCS3 someday. I saw it on a pretty cheap bundle with VC4 complete edition and even though I already have both games (VC4CE on Xbox), I want to play them handheld. So I'm glad the first one is a decent port of this great game, thank you for the review.
This game is bundled with Valkyria 4 on the switch eshop. Is that worth it? Or will that be repetitive ? I saw somewhere that it's essentially the same game. But it's not clear. Alternatively i can get valkyria 4 on the eshop with all dlc included (instead of getting the v 1 + 4 bundle without dlc included )
It's great, but the maps and ballance is so much better in VC 4. The story is better here though. Without playing 2 and 3 the story in 4 is confusing Without the context.
Because nobody would buy a physical copy of a port. You realize that Valkyria barely makes cash, right? Why TF would Sega waste bucks releasing physical copies if an old game that barely anyone would buy? It is way cheaper and safer to just make it downloadable only.
I wouldn't call it a blend of strategy and third person shooter, is just strategy. Reason: You don't need any skill nor effort to aim nor to react, so even if the game looks like a shooter, it doesn't feel at all like that. I have it on PC, it's good but it lost me because in some hard battles(like the giant tank) it's possible to lose after playing more than 2 hours and it's necessary to repeat the whole battle. I was hoping that this version would have a fix for that (like allowing to save in the middle of the battle, or to go back a certain amount of turns, but that doesn't seem to be the case :( ).
It's still requires dodging and making your movements quick and efficient. It's definitely skewed towards the strategy side, but the third person shooter elements are also there.
Also 4 has a different engine, so the artstyle is noticably sharper. Not to mention, 4 has a lot more options WITH each unit (I.E. shocktrooper at high levels destroying tanks)
dualwieldroxas358 Thanks. I went ahead and bought VC4 for Switch. I was gonna get VC1 but VC4 just overall seems slightly better from what I’ve been reading so far.
@@0mnicide the switch version is just that, a switch port of 1. Get VC Remastered on PC or console if you can, as it is everything the switch version is with higher quality, as well as faster loading times. If you dont mind the quality drop, VC1 on switch still has everything extra save video quality that remastered has. I sincerely recommend trying VC1 if you love VC4. Yes, it is a tad less complex, but its story is what gave Valkyria Chronicles its high reputation in the JRPG community
Not gonna mention the fact that the audio quality is a big drop off? It's crispy dude. Not only that but it looks noticably worse than valk 4 and runs worse. It wasn't at all properly optimized
I usually don't leave comments when I watch a review but I have to say that this one was extremely well made! Thank you for your work.

I bought it because it's like 10€ in the eshop right now. Can't wait to play it.
Bought on switch after watching this review. Currently on sale

This game is really awesome, are you going to review VC 4?
Really solid review. This made me want to go buy it when I get off work. The series seems really cool and I have been looking for a good story game for my switch
It's best to start with 1. The story is great. 4 has better gameplay but it's story is too hard to follow without playing 2 and 3.
Excellent review! +1sub
If they made a warhammer game with this type of gameplay, mmmmmm
TheKnight OfCydonia With races other than Space Marines...
@@KiyokaMakibi the Chinese bots have infiltrated.
2 years later and that is a great idea still
Mordheim?
I just got this game this morning and the only reason im not playing it is because i have to go to work. I love it so far

And right now! I bought it on the American 🇺🇸 E-shop for $9.99 last night. Highly recommended!
@@AuthorJoelKrupa and right now!
It's $10 right now for the BUNDLE of 1 & 4.
$5 December 2023
$4.99 May 2024
Tanks a lot for this review.
I’m gonna get it this week!
I thought this was VC 4 at first. You should review that one too
Does this switch version has the original Japanese voices or only the dub?
We don't mention Valkyria Revolution.
That never happened !!
But it's the best game in the series?
Seems interesting. I’m looking for something similar’ish to final fantasy tactics since it appears that game has been abandoned.
Did you play Triangle Strategy? It's a great game
I want more games like this
Now on sale for 8euro in e-shop
This game is $6 cad on the E-shop
no remastered version?
Do you have to download it or is it on a little card
Download

Great review! If one is completly new to jrpgs, is this a good place to start?
If you want to begin jrpg from the very start, i recommend starting with Final Fantasy VI
I have VC 3 in psp.
I have VD in my pp.
Yes, Fire Emblem and Metroid
$11.99 U.S. eshop until august 19th 2019
Great game but sloppy by Sega not to use the PS4 remastered code. Also, why no physical release Sega?
THIS.
Because it's Sega

7.4 GB

You can save during tactical mode. Just look for the save option in the menu ;) I have just finished the pc version yesterday :D
@Lukaos Kaos that battle took me an hour to do and when I was done i was literally sweating. Did it on my first try tho lmao
It's still requires dodging and making your movements quick and efficient. It's definitely skewed towards the strategy side, but the third person shooter elements are also there.
Uhhhh yeah...you can save in the middle of battle
The fix for that is to git gud
What’s the main differences between 1 and 4?
Some added mechanics like the mortar-class.
Also 4 has a different engine, so the artstyle is noticably sharper.
Not to mention, 4 has a lot more options WITH each unit (I.E. shocktrooper at high levels destroying tanks)

Snoozefest
VC4 is way better
The graphics are so horrible its digusting .. THE PS3 version looks 100x better
False. The whole collection is not available on Switch. Only 1 and 4 sadly. Good vid tho. Keep it up.
"...the entire series is now available on HANDHELDS."
