    A lot of people forget that Suaalii is an absolute gun at both sports. He went to Kings in Parramatta to play rugby before choosing league, I'd imagine because it's a more secure option for teenagers looking to turn pro. He still has essentially two seasons to win a premiership, play Origin and more test footy before going to union for the Lions tour in 2025 and World Cup in 2027. If he comes back to league in 2028, he'll only be 25 and Tedesco may be retired by then, so he can get that Roosters fullback jersey. I love seeing players try to create these opportunities for themselves - if they're good enough, like SBW, club's and codes will accomodate and it's fascinating to watch.

      bit early to be calling him an absolute gun, he has insane potential, but he leaving NRL before even getting close to that and more than likely leaving with out a premiership ring or even getting close to it, last year when he filled in at fullback (his preferred role) he was pretty abysmal, especially setting up his defensive line and positioning - vividly remember him getting caught out on grubbers a lot. Then his performance at the world cup as full back, disappointing. Good luck to him in rugby, but he got no where close to getting to gun status in league.

    • @shanehodges6980
      @shanehodges6980 Před rokem +8

      comparing him to SBW is just apples and oranges, SBW was an established premiership winning player with personal outstanding performances for 4 years..... sualii, debut season 2021 played a few games spent majority of season out with foot injury, 2022 yeah a few good games with a lot of potential ---- but no... he hasn't accomplished any thing in NRL and falls very short when you start making comparisons.

Suaalii has a contract to complete in the NRL, Gus is being emotive and not rational. I have no doubt that Suaalii can play both codes at a professional level. Great for the ARU to have such young talent boost their stocks, players switching codes will continue, there are many examples to choose from not just the high profile players such as SBW, RTS, Tuqiri, Sailor, Folau, Rogers etc that is professional sport.

    People are overlooking Gus’s point, yes it comes across as salty or having a sook but he pointing out the fact that it does absolutely nothing for the game of NRL to have him play now for the next 2 years. All it does it promote Union and the Wallabies and although that’s ok as a country and supporting the codes, it does absolutely nothing for League especially when the game is trying to still grow and it’s actually reaching massive levels. I don’t think losing Joe is bad for the game at all, but it does promote a rival code so I can completely understand Gus’s frustration.

    There was never any judgement against lote, korabetie, sonny bill, why suallii? to be honest he is a good chance of playing in a grand final this year in my opinion, he is a fantastic player, I think we as nrl fans should just make the most of his talents in league, I think brandon smith is correct in saying his defection to union is not going to be the answer to australia beating the all blacks, he would enjoy more wins staying in league but the money must be the key factor in his defection to union, his pockets will be fuller in union but his name would be bigger in league, but im a league fan through and through, at the end of the day he is doing what he truly wants to do and thats his choice, good for him, there is another kid waiting for his chance in league out there that is very happy with josephs decision, so in one way it is fantastic for league to allow for the next big talent to enter the scene, gotta think of the positives hey
