    Australia is so weird when it comes to this subject lol as a kiwi, I’m cheering on anyone who pulls on a black jersey, whether for the Kiwis or ABs. And we love when players want to swap between codes. You guys have so much talent and Australia is good at both codes, why not just cheer each other on? I just feel like it’s a non-issue lol

      It because rugby in Australia outside of the few super rugby franchises there's no pathways for rugby juniors to follow other than going to Europe than they for along time they wouldn't even pick thoughs players for the wallabies anyway not sure if they have a quota now .... rugby Australia have destroyed their game in Australia .....then to rub salt into the wounds ever world cup they throw money at league players and over look the players they've invested the time and money into .... we'll always support our own though and can't wait to see young suaalii dominant.....young gun🔫 there's more than enough talent running around in the NRL to let a few go.

      I watch both codes. For me there are 3 main issues:
      a) Rugby Union has a great international calendar. When Wallabies play, we get told, we are expected to win the Bledisloe, WC etc etc. Expectation is far too high since 2001 last Bledisloe win.
      b) Rugby Unions laws are policed differently from referee to referee. A great game of Rugby at the mercy of a French / English referee ? Forget it.
      c) Any form of tackle above the shoulder is a yellow/red card. It is a collision sport.
      Rugby Union has a great product, great promise now it’s an Olympic sport but still 120 years later, no one can agree what the laws of Rugby Union are. So I find myself switching back to League.

      @@SirOrganicmaybe the punishments and way they do the cards are harsh in some cases but you can’t just say ‘it’s a contact sport’ and that be an excuse for dangerous play, there has been a serious concussion problem and for the safety of the players the cards are dealt out to encourage players to go lower. When there’s mitigating factors imo it shouldn’t be a punishment at all, right now they’re still being yellow carded which seems silly to me. But for clear high tackles with no mitigating factor the red is the correct one for the player. It should be 20 minute reds to not ruin the game but that will come.
      And I don’t know what you’re going on about french and English refs, they’re the main refs in the 6 nations and they were the most entertaining games in 2023 so far, albeit the highest standard of rugby and a different level altogether.

    • @SirOrganic
      @SirOrganic Před rokem

      @@jakeclough8090 Most of the HIA concussions where players leave the field, are caused by players making a defensive tackle. I.e putting your head in the wrong position. Players are more likely to leave the field collecting an accidental hip or knee, as compared to a high tackle from the opposition.
      When there are mitigating factors... a yellow/red card still seems to be issued which ruins the game as a spectacle.
      Finally, if you want a French referee. So be it. Games in the Northern/Southern Hemisphere are referee'd differently and has always been this way. There is a collective gasp when you here we got a French ref is in charge before a Tri Nations/Rugby Championship game.

    There is only a code wars between the two codes in Australia literally no where else. In England both codes just mind their own business. In NZ the super rugby franchises get along very well with the Warriors, never say any negatives about each other. The one notable difference is that in Australia League is bigger than Union. I understand why NRL bosses don't want them to take players because if the Wallabies get to the top of the world it could cause a decline for League in Australia, but they have to stop acting so insecure and petty about it.

    No wonder the code wars are an Aussie thing despite RA going after players like Haas, Murray, and the elusive Cleary instead of sorting out the pathways where league has the upper hand on grassroots, also a pity that the NRL/ARL are short-sighted on expanding the game further internationally instead of keeping it stagnant on club footy despite logically shifting international tests towards the end of the year in the autumn.
    No idea why NRL pundits are whinging over this when their grassroots are well ahead of union churning out an endless supply of players non-stop, at least the "code wars" thing isn't huge anywhere else where fans enjoy rugby regardless of what code it is.

    This is not a 'Code War' no other Rugby nation is raiding NRL. It's only Australian Rugby. The ALL BLACKS don't need to raid Rugby League because they build their own talent through grassroots and in Europe, they have the billionaires that own the clubs in England, France and the Heineken Cup Competition which is one of the richest competitions in the world. So please, stop referring to this war like it's the whole Rugby Union. It's just Australian rugby alone and the reason they are raiding the NRL is because they didn't give a sh*t about their grassroots who flock to Rugby League and then have to pay millions to bring them back to their game they ignored them in the first place. We all know in Rugby Union how Australian rugby is a joke.

    Exactly took the words right out of my mouth. Why play Union running the ball only 3 times. In union you have to work a lot harder to get the ball maintain the ball and then run the ball. League is good to watch but not as physically demanding as Union. Union and league players have been switching codes for years but only league cry about it, why? League was a sport that first came about because the south were crying that the north wouldn’t let them play rugby union so they created their own sport different from the Rugby Union” to the “ Rugby league” and changed to limit the amount of tackles cause some were also crying they didnt get the ball enough, hundreds of years later they still crying… is crying all league can do?

    • @davidm3997
      @davidm3997 Před rokem +2

      I’ve played both. League is definitely more physically demanding compared to rugby. Not saying union players are less fit, but a game league is like doing 50-100 hundred metre sprints at full intensity, plus generally larger collisions. Union is more like a marathon, definitely hard work, just less intense

      No lad Yorkshire and Lancashire used to regularly beat southern teams at union prior to 1895.
      However their players were from a working class background compared to southern players who were from a more privileged background.
      If these working class players got injured they couldn’t work, it’s pre 1895 no sick pay so they may of ended up in the workhouse.
      That’s why rugby league was invented , to protect its player base.

      @@davidm3997 yeah i kinda get where your coming from as this debate has been happening long far and wide but its fact and has been proven time and time again even by professional league players themselves and arguably one of the most infamous players said it SBW “ it is easy to take the ball in league do one hit up, run up and back but in union you constantly have to do that and more whether u have the ball or not”. Tuqiri, Sailor, and others have all said similar. I myself play both and i don’t get tired in a league game as a forward… but as a big unit forward in Union im constantly running all over the place with ball in hand or not and by half time im tired. How many players in league do u see are tired after constant play? When u donsee constant play they a really tired. Now imagine when theres endless tackles? Common sense you’d think would prevail. In league I can do one run and stop and take a long breather. Than do it again once i catch my breath. I cant do that in rugby until that whistle blows. Given im not the fittest person but that proves my point even more. Most players of both codes are fit but only one code does consistent running. Look at the stats difference between running metres with and without the ball and tackles than add everything else union does? But i digress..
