So what if we are multicultural. Representing Queensland or new south wales is a selection process to play for Australia. People not from those states shouldn’t be playing for Queensland or new south wales. Actively encourage Tongans, Samoans, Fijians, new Guineans to play for their country and grow the international game. Don’t cheapen origin, invest and enrich in international football.

    • @youbetzler
      @youbetzler Před rokem +25

@@troystaunton254 It hasn't been a selection process for decades. Plenty of players get picked for Australia before getting picked for origin.
How is it cheapening origin exactly? there's already a bunch of international players with loyalties to other countrys in origin right now does it seem cheapened to you? We should never have situations like James Tamou, Akuila Uate and Josh Papali where players choose to play for Australia simply because they want the money that comes with origin.
Origin will eventually become redundant. It's original purpose has been and gone, queensland has proved it's point, it's now just become the premier event in the sport. But it won't be for long, soon the international game will be the premier event. And the league and anyone who wants to see the league succeed should be wanting that because that will propel the game into a new atmosphere of success.

Origin is about representing your football origins; the junior club you played for and the teammates, coaches, volunteers etc there who helped you become the player you are. It’s such a fine line between getting the eligibility right and not turning origin into an all stars match. The demographics of the game have shifted a lot in the last 20 years, go back and watch a game from 1995. Mackay, Carter and Adamson are now To’o, Luai and Kikau. The framework needs to be set right because this is a chance to really strengthen both origin and international football. The loser as it currently stands is NZ because a player that is eligible for them or an island nation will pick the latter because then they can still play origin. At the end of the day like most things in life it comes down to money. $90 grand for an origin series or a couple of hundred bucks to play for country. That’s what it all comes back to.

The insularity of national governing bodies is the reason why it is important to have a strong independent International Board. These governing bodies should have a seat at the table, absolutely, but it should not be left to the Aussies to grow the game in PNG or Fiji, just as it shouldn't be left to the RFL to grow the game in France or Canada.
There should be a healthy level of tension that balances the international games' interests.

Move it up a few years so if scouts are abroad seeking junior talent and they are happy to migrate to Australia and it turns out that little johnny who came to Oz with the family then becomes a super start at 22 he/she can still play origin and make a choice to play from either Oz or the mother land. After this world cup move the goal posts and set it in concrete for a 3-5 year period or so to see how it effects things. If it needs tweaking then so be it. Do whats best for the game.

Agree with you gus. 100%. This is the same thing that happen to tamana Tahu. 10 years ago Andrew johns made the exact same comment. That actually bit Andrew johns on the arse. He stated that tamana played for both indigineous all-stars Koori team and kiwis and shouldn't be.
But didn't understand the importance of culture and why they started playing rugby. So many talented players out there.
Dean widders played rugby but never knew nothing bout his culture. Until he started playing rugby. Then understood the reason why we indigineous and native Australians and Aotearoans aka NZ players. Grow up playing rugby to represent not only our country but our culture.
And this is hense why Dean widders brang in the warcry back bout 7 to 8 years ago now maybe abit more for kooris to perform at indigineous vs Maori games we have every year. And I personally would love to see it performed by Wallabies and kangaroos rugby union and rugby league teams. Koori culture is dance, hymns, chants and singing. And I think in order for it to be accepted by not Australia but by the world. this should be at the forefront of indigenous rugby in Australia. So thanks to Dean widders koorjs have a warcry that all Australians and Maoris, islanders embrace.
And if things continue the way that G-Train wants then Australia kangaroos and wallabies shouldn't have any Australian born and non born Maoris, islanders, and I think kooris wouldn't want to be in its national team. Same as union. Shouldn't have koroibete, Tongan thor aka taniela Tupou, leileafano, totai kepu etc who have or still are playing for wallabies or kiwis.
If Robbie Farah can play for Australia but not Lebanon then why not.
If Ferguson can play for Lebanon and kooris why couldn't he ever play for Australia.
If Anthony Minichiello can play for Australia but not Italy. Honestly where is the fairest in these players wanting to represent not only their Australian side but also their heritage before coming to Australia.
So onya Gus. Your the man brotha and one of the best commentators and hosts on sports shows and game night commentating. All the best Gus.

SOO is no longer a stepping stone to being selected for Australia it’s all about winning n money now and not about a pre-selection for the Aust team. Gus said origin is different what’s different?? Money and all sorts of spin-offs they get from Origin. So everyone forget Origin being about pre-selection for Australia it’s not.
The Aust coach Mal Meninga said he will still be picking players who didn’t make the origin team for Australia like Addo-Carr or if Latrell is playing well they will get picked. I repeat Origin is no longer about representing your state to hope to play for Australia one day that’s over it’s simply about money and who wins.

SOO is about money and not about representing Australia anymore which is the ultimate goal for Aussie players well it was but it’s no longer anymore. The point here people like Gus don’t care about Australia rep honours no more. Jason Taumulolo came here when he was 13 chose to play for NZ n Tonga so he can’t play SOO so why is TO’O playing SOO then for Samoa? Either because NSW rugby league hate Mal Meninga as coach of the Australian side and a Qlder or like Gus said they want healthy competition to grow the game which is fine but still their needs to be consistency and clear rules.
