- Two-time Rugby World Cup Champion Faf de Klerk sits down to talk about the Springboks' historic victory at Rugby World Cup 2023 in France and how they edged past England in the semi-final.
The scrum-half speaks about his nerves as he started on the bench in the fixture and how there were some harsh words at half-time which galvanised South Africa to build back into the game.
De Klerk is also joined by fellow bomb squad member Vincent Koch as they discuss THAT scrum penalty which allowed Handré Pollard to steal the game by a solitary point.

Springboks really deserved the win - their journey to the final was very difficult
I love the " Hello my vriend".
One of the greatest plays of the recent World Cup that no one seems to mention was the final play against France where Faf got out in front of a very large and very strong runner and wrestled the ball away from him to end the game. That was massive as it went against the run of play as France was driving towards the goal and Faf just snatched it away from them.
Faf is always doing things like that - one step ahead of what's going on - running on to where he will be needed next while everyone is reacting, he's pro-acting.
Totally agree. That was the game winning moment.
And the tackle he made in the last few minutes in the final against the New Zealander who was in full sprint towards the try line. Faf diving from the side just barely tapping his heel to make him trip.
Brilliant brilliant player, in my opinion.

I give full credit to SA for the brilliant variation of Fourie coming off the back of that lineout and the wide pass to RG to score that try. Rassie always seems to have a little trick up his sleeve. Also to the simplicity of their message to dominante or get off. That said its too bad this game was won on a scrum that really could have gone either way and maybe should have been blown up and reset since both sides infringed during ir.
And if England infringed again and reset again? Remember the scrum was already reset
Remember this was already a third reset. Both sides do infringe but the Springbok infringement only happened because Ellis Genge's knee went to ground.
Looking at the last scrum in complete isolation yes maybe a reset but you are ignoring the resets before and the scrums before that where England were infringing and causing resets time and time again to waste time. With that context, it was a clear penalty and consistent with an earlier call in the game where Kitshoff was penalised for a knee on the ground.
Was almost a clever tactic by England as refs are generally averse to blowing penalties late in a game like this but unfortunately for England the clock on their bag of tricks ran out as not only did it cost them the lead, but their time wasting at scrum time also cost them precious minutes to win once SA were in the lead.
@wandilenzuza5323 Nigel Owen's reviewed it and said they should have blown it up when his knee hit the ground. Not after the Boks infringed by driving in. I'm not saying England didn't get what they deserved i just think it's kinda dad this is what rugby has come to, in the words of Faf De Klerk "luckily we got the penalty^
@@canadiancontent352 so Nigel Owens agreed it should have been a penalty to SA but that it just should have been blown earlier? So what’s the issue? That a ref in a high pressure semi final in the last minutes of a game was hesitant to blow what should have been a straight forward penalty to SA? How is this “sad” for rugby”?
Also one can’t say it was only SA driving in. Because Genge went to the knee, it helped him get under Koch (illegally) which actually caused the scrum to drive in. Hence why SA got the penalty. This isn’t controversial at all

It really upsets English supporters when they're told that they're lucky the game is played over 80 minutes. If that game was played over 90 minutes they'd have lost by 20 points, so they must just stop crying.
