By far this (and Eggshells) is the best UK rugby correspondent! ...All the cards are squaring up for Joe & all the signs indicate that this is a turning point in Aussie rugby.

Even if Joey is open to overseas veterans via Giteau Law, I wouldn't be surprised if the actual squad he selects are predominantly from down under with no overseas based players due to AU resurgence in SR this season.

As good as some overseas players are, it can be difficult to get them coordinating together as a cohesive playing unit.
The Boks are masterful at pulling that off, but Wallabies not so much.
I personally would be picking guys who have a known combination proven over an entire super rugby season. a backrow of Liam Wright, Fraser McReight and Harry Wilson would instantly have the team chemistry to hit the ground running, Paisami and Flook would already have an understanding as to how to operate together in the midfield etc
But there's an opportunity to pick experienced players this year and have them play an All Blacks team that are down on several key veterans from last year 🤔
Will be interesting to see what Schmidt goes for, i'm betting he picks experience over form.

Schmidt will bring the stability that Jones' team lacked. While Eddie had a good idea to prioritise youngsters, players like Hoops and Skelton are the kind of experience that's needed in order to keep their heads up when the going gets tough

Tom Hooper.? Covers,5,6,7 perfect bench, I’d bring Fergus or Ned in for Holloway ,younger, Pollard for Porecki,? Schoup for Slipper? Pone for AAA? Wilson wasn’t in WC squad!
Arnold and Skelton a must! All of Europe says this!

IMO both Arnold brothers have been bad international players, the sooner that experiment is dropped the better.
I don't rate Skelton, he's slow and he doesn't do much at lineouts (yet everyone somehow rates him???) , Lee-warner is unproven, Ned and Holloway are proven failures with both the Waratahs and the Wallabies 🤷
Perese isn't being played at wing and he was kind of uninspiring when Eddie tried him at wing last year, Gordon cannot kick and you've got him as the only kicker in your backline 💀. Rugby is a game about penalty kicks more than it is about try's, Springboks have proven this by winning 3 of their 4 world cups without scoring a try in the final.
Schoupp aint ready for international, he was getting rolled by the chiefs scrum in the semi final last year.
I've also noticed a lack of player combo's in your team 🤔 at super rugby level, tate doesn't play with Gordon throughout the season and neither have good passing so team will struggle to go wide.
Reds halfback, Rebels fly half, Waratahs winger, Reds inside centre, Brumbies outside centre, Reds winger, Rebels fullback...good luck getting those guys to form a cohesive attack in the month training camp pre-season.

    Didnt korobete retire!????

  • @Waywind420
    @Waywind420 Před 2 měsíci +2

For me I think it's time to drop James Slipper.
His workrate is good but the trade off is that he's pretty skinny for an international prop and sometimes he just doesn't have the brawn needed.
He started with the wallabies by conceding multiple scrum penalty trys against england (2010) and the wallabies have been particularly poor throughout his career...time to move on.
If you want the same results keep picking the same players...or you could rock up with a new team based on proven seasonal form that opposition have no idea how to prepare for.
    Something like
    1) Bell 2) Faessler 3) Tupou 4) Phillip 5) Williams 6) Wright 7) McReight 8) Wilson
    9) McDermott 10) Lynagh 11) Daugunu 12) Paisami 13) Flook 14) Kellaway 15) Petaia
    16) Lonergan 17) Gibbon 18) Fa'amausili 19) Hooper 20) Leota 21) Valentini 22) Kerr-barlow 22) (utility player)
Leota and Hooper both play lock so you can have a fresh tight five enter the field, 6-2 bench split is the new meta people just haven't realised it yet.
Expect high levels of cohesion in the backrow and midfield.

I going to wait for another six weeks as I want to see the form of Australian sides and who deserves to be there and not be there something Eddie did not know in the first place when he took over that was his biggest fault. I hated last year World cup squad the only thing excuse he had was the Front Row. To many injurries of key players. I know your side and my side are very different. Mistakes from last year that eddie made did not have a good lIneout it worse I have ever seen and I looking at Linagh, Matt Jorganson there for experience not to play in the side as yet my belief there is that let them grow and get experience and not get them injured as we have seen already with Cheika choosing Petaia and 18 and look what happen to him. Biggest thing the balance was not there last year.
