China’s commercial space sector is rapidly expanding, here is how
The Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), known for being the first Chinese institution to establish a dedicated astronautics faculty in 1987, has spearheaded the formation of an alliance. This alliance, which includes over 100 members such as Loongson Technology and iSpace, aims to foster technological research, development, innovation, and commercialization in the aerospace field. China's dominance in the space market is undeniable. Watch this video to learn how China has become a major player in the space industry and what this means for the future of space exploration.
In March, Premier Li Qiang’s government work report identified commercial astronautics as one of six new engines to propel economic growth. This aligns with the goal of the Commercial Space Industry Technology Alliance, which is comprised of universities, rocket manufacturers, and semiconductor companies. The alliance is part of China’s strategy to develop key sectors that Beijing considers “new growth engines.”
China’s commercial space sector is rapidly expanding with several ambitious projects in the pipeline. Here are some key developments:
1. Megaconstellations: China plans to leverage its growing commercial space sector to launch megaconstellations. The country’s traditional state-owned players will focus on civil, military, and lunar programs, while the commercial sector will help boost China’s overall launch and space capabilities.
2. Spaceplanes and Space Tourism: Several Chinese entities, including the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp. (CASC) and Beijing-based private firm iSpace, are developing spaceplanes. These vehicles are part of a reusable space transportation system involving vertical takeoff and horizontal landing.
3. Satellite Constellations: The China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp. (CASIC) is advancing with an 80-satellite narrowband constellation named Xingyun. At least 12 Xingyun 2 satellites are planned to be launched in 2022 to form the second stage of the three-stage constellation.
4. Commercial Space Projects: A series of commercial space projects were unveiled at the recent 9th China (International) Commercial Aerospace Forum held in Wuhan. These programs are expected to provide more services in sectors such as natural resources survey, disaster warning, and remote sensing.
Interesting use cases are being explored, such as Alibaba Group Holding’s partnership with Beijing-based reusable rocket maker Space Epoch to test a parcel delivery service that can deliver anywhere in the world within an hour. Last year, China conducted 26 commercial space launches, accounting for 39% of the total. Out of these, 25 missions were successful, as reported by the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. We will continue to follow up on this story and report back as we learn more. That’s all for now and thank you for tuning in.

I never understand why they always say better range, as it's not the battery technology that dictates range but how much kwh is put into each EV. The EV may have better battery density, but this new battery is no different to the old battery if both new EV have the same capacity like 60kwh, the only benefit should be faster charging and hopefully a cheaper 60kwh price
