  • Can you imagine an EV battery that can provide a range of 370 miles (600 km) with just a 10-minute charge? That’s exactly what China’s CATL has achieved with their new Shenxing Plus EV battery. This groundbreaking battery, according to CATL, is the first in the world to offer 4C ultra-fast charging and a remarkable range of over 620 miles (1,000 km) under the CLTC standard.
CATL continues to make strides in the development of EV battery technology, focusing on creating units that offer longer range and faster charging capabilities.
The company has been a dominant force in the industry, leading the market for the seventh consecutive year in 2023. CATL’s EV battery consumption hit 259.7 GWh that year, while the global total battery consumption increased to 705.5 GWh. CATL held a significant 36.8% market share in 2023, nearly 21% ahead of its closest competitor, BYD.
In the summer of the previous year, CATL unveiled its Shenxing SuperFast Charging Battery, which can add a range of 248 miles (400 km) in just 10 minutes. Their latest innovation, the Shenxing Plus battery, employs a more advanced and cost-effective lithium iron phosphate for even quicker charging. CATL has announced that the Shenxing Plus is the world’s first EV battery with 4C ultra-fast charging and a long-range capability of over 620 miles (1,000 km) under the CLTC standard. This new battery can achieve a range of one kilometer in just one minute and offers superfast charging even at extremely low temperatures of -20°C (-4°F). To enhance the energy density, CATL has incorporated its proprietary 3D honeycomb material, resulting in the Shenxing Plus achieving an energy density of 205 Wh/kg, comparable to most traditional NCM batteries. While LFP batteries are generally cheaper, they are known for their lower energy density. However, CATL’s new battery aims to change this perception. In January, CATL announced its plan to cut the cost of LFP batteries per kWh by a substantial 50% by mid-2024. It appears to be well on track to achieve this goal. In February, CATL joined forces with other Chinese automakers and battery manufacturers, including BYD and NIO, to develop new solid-state batteries.
BYD and CATL are already supplying batteries to major automakers like Tesla, Ford, BMW, Toyota, Kia, and Mercedes-Benz. With the launch of even more advanced and affordable battery technology, CATL is paving the way for more consumers worldwide to embrace electric vehicles.
    Thank you for watching!

CATL is surely the world leader in EV battery technology and the crown jewel for many automakers. This new battery is gonna make CATL in a league all on its own now. Can BYD compete with CATL to regain the lead? Will the US or EU automakers work with CATL in the future? Will you buy EV in the near future? Please share your thoughts down in the comment below. Thank you very much!

The US and EU clearly have no alternative except to partner with CATL if they hope to remain competitive in the EV market, period.

Well, it's obvious that Chinese battery technology is years ahead of the US and Japan and also market share puts China in a comfortable lead too. Do the US and EU have any choice, not really. Time is money and the only way to overcome this situation is to work with the Chinese.

When CATL announced this new version of its battery the chances are they should already have a newer version with longer range and shorter charging time to be prepared for the next upgrade. You can take this to the bank!

This battery is going to further outpace the US and Japan in battery technology leaving them no choice but to work with China. This innovation truly makes China the world leader in battery technology. Congrats!

BMW is still bragging that its i7 line ($125k and 295m range) has overnight charging!! The hubris of western brands.

Apparently everyone on the internet now has a game changing battery tec to take the world by storm , guess what none of them have come to light

I never understand why they always say better range, as it's not the battery technology that dictates range but how much kwh is put into each EV. The EV may have better battery density, but this new battery is no different to the old battery if both new EV have the same capacity like 60kwh, the only benefit should be faster charging and hopefully a cheaper 60kwh price

Tesla clearly has no choice but to either partner with BYD or CATL, and that puts Tesla in a very difficult position because its models will no longer have any differentiation among other competitors except the look.

China's progress is like their high speed rail; faster and faster. 😂😂😂😂

I'm call BS because the batteries will cook which will shorten battery life to less than 200 cycles. Plus, a liquiding cooling system will be needed at the charging port/battery interface. Otherwise the charger cables and car connectors will melt.

These batteries have too much overcapacity of range and charging.
