  • China's supercomputers and domestic AI chips bolster AI data training, as it navigates through the export restrictions placed by the United States on Nvidia’s most sophisticated AI chips, according to experts and company executives.
These remarks were made following China Mobile’s announcement on Sunday that its AI computing center, the largest among global telecom operators, is now operational in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, with over 85% of the AI chips used being domestically produced. Zheng Weimin, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, informed China Daily that China currently houses 14 national-level supercomputer centers. He stated that these resources, through harmonized hardware and software design, can be utilized for training and inference of data for large language models, a crucial technology for generative AI applications like ChatGPT.

China is leading the world in supercomputing with its Tianhe-1 and has been a foundation in development of AI. As the restrictions from the US continues, China has no choice but to accelerate its supercomputer research and development with the hope to self-reliance. Is China's supercomputer and AI chip development going to dominate the AI across the globe? What else could China do to secure its AI development? Please tell us what you think down in the comment below. Thank you in advance!

China has the necessary resources such as electricity, water, and people, the supercomputer will only get larger and faster in time.

This is, again, a part of self-reliance to gradually move away from foreign technologies.

With the enormous AI data, supercomputer is probably the only way to drive the innovation and technology forward. We should see more and more supercomputer deployment in China as AI demands continue to grow.

China's supercomputer is second to none and China chooses not to compete with the US any more due to the fact that there is no point of winning or losing for as long as China can hold its own. It would be exciting to see how China's supercomputer actually support AI research and development in the long run.
