Hello! Your disassembly of the laptop is very helpful and with it I’d like to ask a question. Since the fans and heat sink assembled seem to be connected to fix the fan is it required to replace the entire thing or is it possible to replace the fans by themselves? Thanks in advance 😁

I know this is an old video, but my right fan (top down, by the power button) is doing all sorts of weird things. It makes a terrible buzzing sound constantly and sometimes, it turns off while the left one is wide open, and it just comes on in spurts. Like... buzz........buzz......buzz......buzz....buzz.... Any clue? All the PC repair shops I've talked to said to just buy a new computer. That's a hard pill to swallow since I paid almost 2k for this thing about 2.5 years ago. No one wants to work on it but surely a fan replacement can't be that bad. You took yours apart in about an hour (Ik now parts of this vid were sped up). I'm afraid I don't have the skill to do it myself. What if I mailed it to you? lol.

Not viable service maintenance. Once the twisty mecha has been removed the rivet may not be able to be hammered back in securely. Just replace the twisty internals with a proper Z41 McClicky upgrade, that would be the most appropriate step to do......

I've been needing to repaste mine for a while now, but the task is pretty overwhelming to say the least. Then, about two weeks ago, the fans up and died on me. I guess everything happens for a reason, huh? 🤷‍♀️😅 Anyway, your video is an absolute lifesaver. I've watched it a couple times, and I'll be using it as a guide to fix mine this weekend. Fan replacement. 🤞 I just wanted to say thank you! This is such a huge help!

Unsure if you are aware, but if you drain the power until it no longer charges a device then fully charge it, the display should read 100% and give you a close reading of battery life. BTW, you might need to do this twice for a more accurate reading.

I know this is an old video, but thanks anyway. 😄 You helped me a lot especially with the screws, I tend to overlook one or two when I have to disassemble something this complex. Lots of cables and screws... Also I like to see how much force one applies to a part when you have to open it up to make sure I don't break anything. My idle temps dropped 15-20°C, although the peak is still above 80 even when not in game. 💦🙄

What do you call the the layered composite thermal sheet? Possibly copper, graphene and silicone Dell didn't want to tell me. Mine is delaminating. I took it out and replaced it with Gelid ultimate 15W thermal pads. I'm not convinced in my workmanship nor do I have good comparison temps (lack of baseline) While 15W/mK is ok, It's not copper or graphene. Thoughts or suggestions?

I have a question about the hinges? I have a M17 R2 version, but it is built the same as this one. It fell the otherday and the hinge connection points that connect to the back of the display broke from the rest of the display. When I looked up what the exact part name was, dell's manual says its a Hinge-Up Display and to fix the hinges the entire thing screen must be replaced. Is this true or am I reading the wrong thing?

  • @joelstolarski2244

That was cool. The rivet part looks like the only tough piece to put back. Seems like it should have been designed better. A cheapie part, that compromises a tactical light seems pretty dumb. Gonna try it. I don't think the caps are available to buy or get replaced from Surefire.
