      @@advancedvector6833 Just finished watching the Post Repaste video. Love it! I appreciate how you have a level-headed approach to your review of the m15. Re: XTU, I was under the impression that the 10th gen chips were locked for undervolting. Did you have to do anything special to undervolt and change the clock multipliers? I was actually not planning on changing these, but after watching this video, I will definitely undervolt if it's not locked.

      @@mxporkchop I did not have to do anything special to unlock my CPU but it is possible that perhaps the i5/i7 are locked. I seem to remember somewhere that the K designation on CPU indicated its unlocked and can be over/under clocked. The i9 does have the K while I do not believe the i7 does.

    Hey man great video again! Love your AW m15 series. I had some questions about the laptop if you would be so kind as to answer them.
    1. Does it support Windows Hello facial recognition?
    2. If I get the config with the single m.2 drive, will it still have 2 m.2 ports for me to upgrade later on? (I'm not sure if you would know this)
    3. Is the 300Hz panel worth it over 144Hz one? I don't care much about the extra refresh rate as it's barely noticeable above 144Hz anyway, but I'm sort of concerned about the 3ms response time in the 300Hz one over the 7ms in the 144Hz. What do you think?

    • @advancedvector6833
      @advancedvector6833  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey I'll try to answer all your questions:
      1. No it does not support Hello facial Recognition
      2. Yes, It would still have the additional hard drive slots. However I do not know if it would come with the Copper heatsinks. There may be another mounting solution but it looks like the heatsinks are required to mount the drives.
      3. I think this on is up to personal preference. This was not a choice I had to make as I could only get the configuration I wanted in the 300hz screen. The 144hz screen might be a little better on battery life.

      The copper heat sink thing might be a problem now. I was thinking of saving $100 and getting 512 gigs SSD and upgrading it later on. The heatsink issue might make me unable to do so. Now I've to reconsider it.

    • @aashutoshrijal4741
      @aashutoshrijal4741 Před 4 lety +1

      I think this is how all alienware laptops are configured. They onlu start to thermal throttle at a 100 degress while every other company limit the thermal throttle threshold at 90 degress. A fix without repasting would be to limit CPU power limits pl1 and pl2 at 40 watts. Alienware laptops are poorly configured when it comes to thermal limits. This is a well known issue with every iteration of m15. I dont think this is a hardware issue per se, the thermal solution doesnt seem lacking at least

    • @advancedvector6833
      @advancedvector6833  Před 4 lety

      This is aboslutely correct. AW is too aggressive in the clocking of these machines. After tweaking the CPU and undervolting and lowering clock speeds slightly its much more manageable and stable.

    Hey vector I'm to scared to repaste my m17 r3 when I get it would a cooling pad be as good as thermal paste. Also if you can I would like to see the temps of the computer repasting plus a cooling pad would that stop the overheating problem thanks dawg and have a great day✌🏽

      So i failed to mention this in my video...actually a huge oversight on my part but i'm still learning about the do's and dont's of this type of video. Anyway all my testing was done with a powered laptop cooler that had built in fans. I would expect temps to be worse than i indicated without the cooler. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016PMVM7Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this is the one i have but it looks like they don't carry them anymore.

      @@H4500rk cooling pad is not necessary. it did absolutely nothing for my m15 r3. Youre better off getting just a stand that raises the laptop. There are benchmarks from other youtubers that a stand is more than enough. A cooling pad only decreased the temp by 1 vs just stand alone.

      Unfortunately there wasn't a clear answer in the end. If you are going to just be gaming then I say i7 but if you have a specific use case where you would benefit from more cores over higher clock speed then the i9 might be a viable choice for you. I personally am going to stick with the i9.

      I actually did not disable the iGPU on purpose. I have been messing around and its not even being detected by windows. I am thinking AW has disabled it completely because i have the 300hz screen. I know in the past with high refresh or gsync screens they sometimes disable iGPU as it is not capable of handling those refresh rates.

    • @advancedvector6833
      @advancedvector6833  Před 4 lety

      A serious answer would be extremely. Unless you have access to very sophisticated technology and equipment trying to desolder the ram then solder new stuff back on would be pretty much impossible. Even with all the tech in the world it would still be difficult. Bottom line is get what you can now because it'd be cheaper to just get a whole new laptop then to consider upgrading the RAM

    For a few hundred more there are way better options thermally at a small size. Asus Zephyrus will have the best temps. I would return the Alienware. My 2019 Zephyrus maxes at 85-90c for CPU temp at load (no undervolting). Gpu around 80c max. That is where you want your cpu to be long term.

      I’d be interested to see base clock speeds and all the gory details. So far when people have told me xxx or yyy is better it’s not an apples to apples comparison. All these laptop companies have access to relatively the same technology and physics only allows us to dissipate a certain amount of heat. On thing I will say is I believe AW to be too aggressive on their clocks out of the box. It’s easy to tweak that and get great numbers.

      I would expect them to be slightly better assuming you have the same specifications. That being said if you get the 2080 it will be the P version and not the Q so it would likely draw more power and generate more heat

      Its great that AMD is finally back in the game! I am more of an Intel guy but I am all for the open market and competition to keep both companies progressing! That being said i'm not sure how this video portrays a particular weakness. I'd need to see a fair comparison between a comparable AMD CPU in a similar form factor but it might very well be better for a compact gaming machine.
