Amazing videos man. All of your AW m15 videos are so detailed and informative it really helps a lot if you're actually deciding to buy the machine. Keep up the good work :p
I’ve been watching your videos, I’ve been wanting to swap from console to pc and I think this laptop is perfect for me. Thank you for all your work on these videos very informative:)
For swapping the boot drive I would actually recommend cloning the boot drive to your new drive using a tool and then just expand the main partition to fill the new space
This is certainly an option people can follow but I am paranoid of bloatware and always do a clean install whenever I get any PC. That way I know exactly whats on it.
Hi, great video. Got a follow up question on the thermals of the i7 vs i9. If for the i7 we get the 10875 version, that is also 8 cores with 16MB cache, would the thermals be similar to the i9 tested? In this case only the 10750 would be a cooler option since it has 6 cores only? In this case, disabling 2 cores would be an option?
Looking forward to hearing about what happened after you underclocked. I have the same idea of buying an i9 and undervolt and also underclock to i7 settings to ise the extra cores, if thermals were bad. I like your content, keep it up. +1 sub 👊
Hey I recorded the down and dirty on that last night and i'm going to try my best to get it up today. Unfortunately i still have to work my day job but I appreciate the question and support!
Great video, dude! Does this have Windows Hello support? How many hours do you think it will last based on daily usage? Also, what display did you get? I’m wondering if 300Hz is worth it over the 144Hz option that comes with Nvidia G-sync.
I did what i consider a fairly standard productivity load and I think you'd be looking at 2-3 hours if you weren't taking precautions and had screen at max brightness etc...If you turned off the lighting fx and messed with the power settings etc...i bet you could get 4 hours of productivity out of it. Maybe a bit more. Once I start using it for work i'll have a better idea. So far its just been sitting on my desk doing stress tests and benchmarks.
So happy to finally see a proper review of this laptop! Question - how are the speakers? I have the m17 R2 and I have big issues with my speakers sounding "tinny" even at 50% volume. As in, it sounds as if the whole laptop were a vibrating tin can. Looking online, it seems to have been a common issue on the R2. Wondering if you're getting the same on the R3? Good way to check is just clicking on the speakers icon from the system tray and clicking on different sections of the volume slider
Hey. I have actually been pretty impressed with the speakers on this. As a disclaimer I am not really an Audiophile but from an overall sound perspective it sounds crisp to me. Not much on the low end so its not as immersive but the mids and highs seem sharp and distinguished.
we have an electronics store chain here in australia called jb hifi seen this laptop in one of their sydney stores today it's on sale and i've been wanting an alienware for a while now i may just go buy it tomorrow thank you for the video AV rachel
Great reviews for m15 r3. I have AW 15 r3 as you have and thinking for upgrading with the latest gen. Am still looking more information which screen size, 15 or 17, cpu and gpu combinations that will fit my needs. A Form factor and a better cooling system are my main concern.
So the thing thats awesome about this new design is they have finally removed the huge bulky bezel around the screen. So the 15" is actually a 15". I am not a professional reviewer so I have not had a hands on review of the 17" but if you like a larger screen i'd bet that the new 17" is a lot closer in size to the old 15". As far as CPU/GPU I think at this point stay away from the i9 is the consensus. From what i'm hearing even the i7 is a little hot. I have not tested the 2080 in this thing yet but the 2070 is actually a very good card and I have no complaints. Its a solid upgrade from a 1070.
quick question will be glad if you can respond. I am having trouble choosing between the razer 15 300 hz ,2070 super max q and the alien ware similar specs. Which one should I go for, I have heard that razer has a very good built quality and better battery looks more portable too, both do.
I had this exact same dilemma and ended up going AW because I was already familiar with the brand. However the Razers look really nice too. I think you’ll get a great machine no matter what choice you make
I'll see what I can do! I don't have a ton of new games as I spend more time creating content than gaming these days and this will be more of a work laptop than a gaming one.
Thx for all your reviews I subbed today! I really want the light color of this but it doesn’t give the option on dells website :/ Edit: it’s actually available in the $2000+ models..damn it lol
thanks for the sub! Yeah i really wish AW would not limit us on color for certain configurations. I really wanted the dark look but with a 4k screen but its not possible.
Hey I’ve been really interested in buying a Alienware laptop considering the M51 r2 or the M17r3, strictly for gaming and marathon gaming but concerned for thermals, any advice having experience in Alienware to get me one, or must I go in a other direction
I really do like the AW laptops and they have always done well for me I finally did a review of the 2080 model. Literally uploading it now as i type this and the i9 with the 2080 is where you want to be at or the i7 with the 2070/2060. Honestly i'm wondering if its not better just to go i7 with a 2060 and then dump the leftover money into a Graphics amplifier and a RTX 2080. The 2060 is still very respectable especially for 1080 gaming for when you are on the go but when you are home and doing some serious gaming you can hook up to the eGPU and really tear it up.
I have been an AW user for years now but quite honestly I almost bought the Razr this time around. I have heard tons of good things about them and if I do end up sending this one back due to heating issue i'll be getting a Razr.
Hi i just bought this as my first ever gaming laptop, i got no clue about the first part of the video(benchmarking stuff) i just started learning about undervolting, anyways i want to know how to use this machine properly to avoid any future repairs and all that, like should i use my laptop while plugged in and how many times should i charge it per day cause 2 hrs is quite a short period, i use it for gaming and programming. And yeah share any tips and tricks for us beginners
I think as long as you can get the undervolting down you will be ok. Just take it slow and be willing to spend lots of time learning. Like anything a laptop is just a tool that lets you do something. from a maintenance standpoint i'd just say make sure you are keeping it clean, and dusting it out every 3-6 months depending on how dusty it is where you live. You can dust it by just removing the back cover and blowing out the fans and everything else with a can of compressed air.
If I get this laptop fully maxed out with a i9 and 2080 super how many years will it last for gaming on max settings? Please reply I can’t find any other videos on this particular laptop
This is a hard question to answer but I think you'd be able to play games on Max settings with this with a reasonable frame rate of 50+ at 1080p for the next 18months. You always get a slow deterioration as new games and technology are released. You will likely start out in the 80fps range and slowly over time drop down to 50fps at which point you'll have to lower some settings in order to regain some FPS.
I couldn't get the 4k monitor in the dark configuration but if it was an option I would have. As far as configuration I think you would need to figure out what you are trying to do with this laptop. If its just gonna be gaming then an i7/2070 will likely be the best option.

@@advancedvector6833 Yeah, I am currently using the Alienware R9 desktop and I like the design of the new Alienware series. The parts and build quality of the m15 is phenomenal other than this heating issue with the i9. I would hope that the 17 would retain the same quality and perhaps have slightly better thermals than the m15. One thing i'd consider is if possible you should go with 32GB of Ram. This ram is soldered on and cannot be upgraded after the fact. while you might not need 32gb now it helps keep the machine relevant in the future.
i have found i can buy it in switzerland for a lot less and i can afford the 2080 super, 32gb of ram and the i7, and i will be able to buy it on the 26th of June. id still like to see the nvidia control pannel with this tab in particular storage-asset.msi.com/global/picture/faq/10016371@2019-0123-0223-371554@kb_03129_all.PNG. if desired i will make a thermals video so that you can see the i7, i should get it mid july.
I've been messing around with that quite a bit lately to see if i can get something that works for me. I appreciate the suggestion i'm hoping I can find a good middle ground
@@advancedvector6833 from what I hear undervolting 10th gen is impossible without the apropriate bips setting because of plundervolt. Alienware isn't excactly good at providing bios options...
You know I can't speak to the i7 as i dont have one. If other people are saying that even with the i7 it has heat problems then it likely does. I would say that even if its bad its probably still far better than the i9.
Yes the i7 has similar thermal characteristics. Dell is really pushing as much power to the cpu as they can to push the benches on this device. You can undervolt which helps a little, but even then you'll still see high 80s - mid / high 90s. Given that, the i9 options really seem like they're not worth the $ to spend on for thin and light gaming laptop form factors. You're simply not going to be able to push them for long before throttling kicks in. Intel says running them this hot is fine -- the chips can handle it, which who knows maybe they can. By the time we start seeing significant issues we're probably already moving onto the next generation laptop / chips. Just the down-sides of thin and light designs. There's only so much they can do with thermals and air cooling.
Sadly in Thailand, we only get 2 models and the i7 only comes with an rtx 2070 so i had to do i9 for the rtx 2080s. Hopefully UV it will be enough for long term.
So. I have been doing some more testing and research. I have found out that the Alienware OC interface is garbage. I have been doing testing with Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and I am understanding more of the problem and I'm actually not as irritated as before. Theres a lot of information i'm getting but i'll be doing another video on it soon.
@@advancedvector6833 ohh thanks man, will be excited for that next vid. Actually, can we play without OC? I never OC before so it might run cooler if we dont do that?
@@advancedvector6833 I've spent hours in XTU. The bios won't let you downclock the multipliers so all you can really do is undervolt or play with boost (OFF / or change wattage / timing limits). Even then, you're still going to see very high temps from my experience on my m15. If you find a way to adjust the non-boost multipliers down please let us know in a new video -- I'm willing to sacrifice some Mhz for the sake of a little more comfortable temperatures. Anything over mid 80s on a consistent (hour+) basis makes me a little uncomfortable that I'm greatly shortening the lifespan of my very expensive hobby machine.

@Super JLK thanks
@@advancedvector6833 thanks
Could u do gameplay of escape from tarkov please?
I do not have that game so i'll be unable to do that. Sorry!
i have found i can buy it in switzerland for a lot less and i can afford the 2080 super, 32gb of ram and the i7, and i will be able to buy it on the 26th of June. id still like to see the nvidia control pannel with this tab in particular storage-asset.msi.com/global/picture/faq/10016371@2019-0123-0223-371554@kb_03129_all.PNG. if desired i will make a thermals video so that you can see the i7, i should get it mid july.
where u buy it from switzerland? i wanna buy it to
@@dutz1117 buying it from Dell Switzerland I have a house in Switzerland and in france
Henry McCausland ah ok.im from germany, means prices are the same

And try undervolting to get better cpu temps
I've been messing around with that quite a bit lately to see if i can get something that works for me. I appreciate the suggestion i'm hoping I can find a good middle ground
@@advancedvector6833 from what I hear undervolting 10th gen is impossible without the apropriate bips setting because of plundervolt. Alienware isn't excactly good at providing bios options...
Is it any better than Razer blade 15 Mercury 2019?
Honestly I couldn't say as i have not had a chance to look at the Mercury 2019
Will the i7 have the same thermals issue? Saw some reddit posts say they do...
Lol trump hat
Yeah, is that what it is? I can't quite see it, but if it is... ugh.
