    Thanks for all of the work you put into this/these videos as it has helped me a lot with my M15 R3. BTW bestbuy is selling an open box option and I picked one up locally in "satisfactory" condition that actually looks pretty much new to me for $1615. Mine is 300Hz display, i7, RTX 2070 Super. I was actually looking at ROG Strix with straight-up RTX 2070 when I found the alienware M15 deal. My screen came with basically 0 light bleed (relieved).
    8020 points in Furmark 1080p test right out of the box, but CPU goes straight to 100C without passing go or collecting $200 when testing P95. Looking to undervolt this i7 and maybe repaste.
    The new ROG Strix they have coming out is i7 (supposed to have liquid metal factory installed), RTX 2070 (not maxq) 1tb ssd, 2x 4 watt speakers, 240Hz 1080p and that nice Strix design for $1499. That mobo is accessible and ram is upgradeable.
    Still, 2070 Super in the Alienware is a beast.

      @@crunchym2297 it's bad. Lol. Actually since I'm typically playing around with the performance type settings for a laptop like this then I'll see like one - two hours for normal stuff. However the Alienware is extremely easy and quick to switch between profiles or turn on/off OC. Then change the little battery icon on the Windows desktop tray to " better battery" and about 4-5 hours for web browsing. I didn't test it through but that is what the battery icon indicator was saying.

    So I’ve ordered the i9 with 2080 max q also. Do you think the same throttling issues will be present with 2080? Since you’ve tested yours with i9 and 2070? Looking forward to the repasting video...gonna use that as a guide to do mine :)

    • @advancedvector6833
      @advancedvector6833  Před 4 lety

      I didn’t notice any throttling in the GPU so I’m hoping that with the lower power draw of the 2080 max q I can pull a little more of the heat off the i9. Between that and the repaste I’m hoping it’s at least usable.

    • @RangeCookie
      @RangeCookie Před 4 lety

      Advanced Vector so what’s the point of offering i9 and 2080 and charging damn near 4K if it’s makes the laptop barely usable? What’s the logic there 👀

    • @advancedvector6833
      @advancedvector6833  Před 4 lety +1

      probably because people like me will buy it just having to have the best! lol in all honestly I think the extra cores will help me out a lot when i'm streaming/recording and playing a game. Even gaming doesn't juice up the CPU that much and just having extra cores to handle transcoding etc...will make a difference. I'm going to do some more testing to see but thats my thought process. I'm ok if i have to underclock to 4GHz as long as I get better utility out of all my cores. I do have a dedicated streaming PC but its a pain to deal with and just clicking record/stream and diving into a game is way smoother.

    Actually, it is quite wired if the GPU only stays at around 60 degrees while the GPU stays at 90-100 degrees if they are both under full workloads. It doesn't make sense the thermal heat pipes have such high different working efficiencies. Especially, the old R2 version can reach over 100 degrees for CPU. That's the most urgent thermal problem for m series. In my opinion, you may have to try the Intel XTU and AIDA 64. These softwares are more reliable and accurate. Anyway, thanks for the review!

    Based on recent generations i9 is too much to handle thermally for this chassis. i7 is I think the limit. Even i7 can be difficult to handle but was hoping to see some improvements in this serie. So maybe you can get better experience with i7

      I agree! I am going to repaste and do more testing but I may be sending it back to get the i7.

      @Ro Mel Because it's MSI. Not overpriced Alienware. But i can't confirm wheter it's true or not.

      From what I have seen the MSI is also larger and more bulky than this laptop. Its hard to do a fair comparison with a laptop thats 20% larger. This one feels like a more direct competitor to the Razr laptops. I almost did purchase a Razr but decided to give AW a chance since they have always been good for me in the past.

      Advanced Vector the gs66 stealth serie is competitive with m serie. It is not bulky and big. Maybe you can check it out.

    i returned this laptop because i was hitting 100 degrees on all cores no matter wha ti did. I couldnt get the undervolt to stick and repasting looks like a bitch since the board is flipped. This is a premium gaming laptop so we shouldnt be going through all this hassle. I ended up getting the MSI ge66 raider and thermals never went above 80 during my benchmarks.

      @advancedvector6833  Před 4 lety

      Yeah a lot of people have been going that way since its thermals seem better. I personally am not a fan of MSI laptops but there is a laptop for everyone. I'm glad to hear that MSI is working out for you.

      The real question is did you learn anything? Shouldn't matter what you look at as long as you are getting good information. All that aside I did feel a little bad I didn't have something more visually appealing to look at. That being said creating these video's is a lot more work than you'd think and even creating background footage is very time consuming. Unfortunately I still have a day job so I have to try and cram as much in during the evenings to do my CZcams content. Thanks for the comment nonetheless and I will do my best to make things more appealing in the future.

      I considered the 51 but for my needs i really needed something practical that I could travel with and take to business meetings. It is a great looking laptop for sure however it is pretty bulky. From my personal needs if i was going that route i'd probably just build a desktop as it would hardly ever leave my house!
