Yesterday I disabled 'turbo boost' and CPU temperature (during gaming) dropped from an average of 93°C to 73°C. And the performance still seems the same. Thanks!
I get 93 degrees too on the r9
Instead of turning it off try efficient aggressive if it works
I get like 50*c I have a cooling pad lmao
Mine stays on 84 degrees Celsius on turbo boost
Is there dust in your fans?
Extremely helpful man! I just picked this laptop up, the exact one and loving it. Dude...your guide helped me learn so much about the deeper tweeks, I can't thank you enough.
We need more of these videos! Thanks so much Josh.
Massive thank you for taking the time to make this video. That’s a massive help to noobs like me that struggle to understand why there are frame rate issues with their expensive gaming laptop. I have an ASUS F15 with a GTX 3060 and 16gb of ram.. it has been a huge learning curve coming from console gaming. Your video has been a massive help.. Happy holidays brother 🤟🏻😎
Does it heat?
@@thespandilizer6562 what is that question, every laptop with 2060+ will heat
I got the same laptop and specs. May i know what/which settings you tweaked?
@@thespandilizer6562 yes it heats a lot . use cool pad and play on turbo mode, that's what i do
gtx 3060 , nice brother
gotten 5 new laptops since christmas in our house and used this video for every one of them Thank you for this its priceless. Its so much easier not to have to make a list or remember everything i normally do and just follow your list then fill in.
I just picked up the G15 as my first gaming laptop, coming from a surface pro. Stumbling across your channel has been a god send, thanks for the tips and tricks. I appreciate the extra mile in timestamps, description links, and cutting out fluff. Hope your channel continues to grow!
Glad to hear! Thank you!
Man you got a nice first gaming laptop.
I’m thinking about getting one myself, how has it been treating you? Are you satisfied with your purchase?
@@tylerpage6508 i love my g15. It's light and powerful. It will play any game at high settings.
@@tylerpage6508 There’s a newer model out with more goodies but if you can find a great deal on the ’21 model, you’ll be just as happy. The trackpad is amazing, I love the feel, and real estate. The response and placement of the keys are nice. I recommend the 1440p display, it’s fantastic for watching movies on. Games are stunning, gameplay is just as good. It’s great for traveling as well, slim for its size, not a huge footprint, if I turn off the gpu and run only on the cpu for Microsoft office, adobe, chrome (youtube), spotify, wifi, BT, LED keyboard etc. I’m getting 8 hrs of use. It’s a solid laptop.
Just picked up the m16 zephyrus, first gaming laptop, first expensive laptop. I was freaking out about temperature but after you said 90s while gaming is normal I calmed down. Appreciate all the information in the video! Really helped
I just bought my first ever gaming laptop and your video was so helpful for a noob like me! I can't imagine scrolling thru reddit for 2+ hours and probably still not doing things right, thank you!
A bit long but well-covered! Just got G15, your video helped me a lot calibrating the settings, Thank you!
I just got the G15 3080 and your guide helped me quite a lot I must say so thank you 🙏! Hope your Chanel grows bigger my guy
This is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much for making this!
Awesome video, so much information packed in and the editing is clean.
Just got the G15 and this is going to save me a ton of time avoiding the Reddit rabbit hole. Thanks for sharing.
No problem, thanks for watching!
Maybe I missed it did he start with having the internet connected? I've heard it is beneficial to do setting up maybe I'm wrong.
Also last question I want to get a docking station will the cablesmatter work through a dock and do I still need to keep power cable plugged in? The reason I ask is the dock I'm looking at has pass though power Anker 577 Thunderbolt
I'm getting a strange plastic noise from the touchpad when I tap it. Like a plastic flex noise. Do you get this on yours?
@@andrewfreeman88i don't get it on mine.
Thank you for this. I've been looking for exactly this since I got my g15. Great info for beginners like myself. Thanks again.
Absolutely a great video, in-depth and intuitive, please if you have anymore info of tips for the G15, keep them coming, you saved me hours of time optimizing my G15, and I appreciate it, thank you and love the content 👍
Thought I had optimized my 2022 G14 pretty well, thanks to your video, I was able to further optimize some additional settings I didnt know about
Thank you for taking the time to make this wonderful video
your video is amazing. I just bought my ROG Zephyrus as my first gaming laptop and had no idea if I was using it properly. amazing video, amazing quality, and very informative. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the big help man! Got to know more about my laptop thanks to you! Was worth the purchase.
Wow! They should have this video link pop up at first set-up. Thanks so much for being detailed, no matter how long that was needed man. Appreciate you
This really helped me a lot. I literally was way behind on my updates for the amd drivers. Couldn’t even play Halo infinite on medium settings. After updating I’m playing on ultra high settings with no problem. I also upgraded the ram to 24gb and put a 2tb m2 into it. Thanks for the great information. Subbed!
my zephyrus g14 with the 3060 has just arrived. i think this thing is going to be an absolute powerhouse for gaming/editing, and i'm loving how portable it is. thank you so much for this guide, i think im happy with how it's setup so far, but i'll be sure to return here if i need help in the future!
How’s it been treating you?
@@alecpedersen7063 So I actually just sold it and instead got an M1 macbook air. I just did that because I got bored of gaming and wanted to switch to MacOS, but it was great when I had it! Also it was superb for blender 👍
Thank you for this, you have very high quality videos for the amount of subs, its the quality I expect from a mil sub guy. Honestly dont even know how your video got recommended to me but good thing it did : )
Thank you so much!! Got G15 myself, this video was super helpful :)
Just got the G14 so this guide has been super helpful for me, thanks so much!! You earned yourself a subscriber.
How is it ? I’m planning on getting the g15
@@Guywz it has been fantastic, thermals are not bad if you go in manual mode and change the wattage to the cpu to 35 degrees. And plus if you get the g15 you will have better cooling anyway. It is super responsive. Can game great. It can run multiple tough applications at once. So far it has been fantastic!
Thank you so much for bunch of advices. One more tips for cleanning dust
The fans (both) can take off separately(of course, the tiny power cable still connected), so that you can use a small vacuum cleaner to remove deeper dust in the fan as well as part of heat sink.
I think this is a really convenient design coz I need to remove the whole cooling moudle before. That means you have to replace the thermal paste most of time for a better cooling.
Very nice and detailed video. Interested in what you'll put out next
So thorough and easy to follow, thanks duder.
Incredible content. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this!
Thank you so much mate, I've just upgraded to a gaming laptop after coming from a Macbook, so a big change. This really helped my adapt much quicker.
Hey i am in a similar situation. Is it worth the price and was the upgrade from MacOS to Windows smooth?
@@yashanand_eh it's kinda hard to get used to it at the start, updates are annoying and not having Alfred just kills me every time, but overall for my use case it took me about a week to get fully used to the new shortcuts and just how the os works.
@@scott7224 oh, okay. Thanks for replying dude.
This was hella helpful. Eased my mind about my CPU temps.
Your video quality is insane hope to see you grow in the future
Thank you for your fantastic work
That’s great to hear, thank you!
Same here. Before this G15 I had the M15 with the Geforce GTX 1660 Ti, and my only gripe with that was that the screen and its brightness could be better. Otherwise, that was an amazing laptop too! I am really happy with my G15 so far as well. The sleek black color is amazing! I think they call it Eclipse Grey. ASUS is amazing too. I induced ESD accidentally while trying to install a new 1 TB SSD on my M15 a few months ago, had to send it to ASUS as it was within 1 year manufacturer warranty, and they installed a new motherboard that runs amazingly! Anyway, Enjoy your G15! ASUS laptops startup and shut down SOOO fast, right? Other gaming laptops don't, it seems (from my experience). Remember you can always use Armoury Crate to change/edit keyboard lights. The mouse I use is the Corsair M65 wired mouse. Ok, I'll stop. Enjoy!!!!!! : )
@@zuhairreza Yo same here!! I also had the M15 with the 1660TI 😂 also a great laptop. G15 is obviously better but that one was what got me paying attention to Asus. Since then I’ve tried HP Omen, Lenovo Legion 5 Pro, Legion 7i, Razer Blade 15, and here I am back to Asus, and for good reason!
@@JoshCravesTech hahah.. enjoy! ✌️subbing to you.
Just picked up a G15 and this helped a ton!! Made the whole setup process way easier!
these types of videos with clear title and clear content explanations are very helpfull and really appreciate the effort that muat have gone into this.
thank you
This video is pure gold. It covers everything on reddit and is rxplained very well. U just got a sub
Thanks
Incredibly helpful video! Thank you so much!
This is fucking brilliant! Exactly what I needed, can't thank you enough. You've gained yourself an extra sub today pal
This is perfect for me I’m about to get mine for Christmas
Awe man you just helped me so much. Thank you. Definitely subscribed and liked
Just picked up a 2021 3070 G15 open box at bestbuy for 1300$. Im beyond hyped, thanks for the awesome setup video.
bro you are the best
thank you a lot i looked evrywhere for a video like this one and this is the best
Thanks Just picked up a Strix Advantage Edition and this helped me out a lot.
Using registry edit, I set the minimum power state of my G15 in silent mode within advanced power settings of control panel to 0%. This ensured that during light uses on battery, my CPU clocks stayed below 2Ghz and power consumption dropped by at least 0.5w
Hi there, looking at buying this and I really want a laptop that is completely silent for recording music. In silent mode do all fans turn off and it makes no noise whatsoever? Thanks
There are a lot G15 guides out there, but this is by far the best and most detailed
Thank you so much!!
This is super helpful!
Just got the 2023 G16 ! Cant wait to get my hands on it!
i was waiting for ur videos 😍❤️
My g15 is arriving tomorrow. Coming from a 2015 MacBook Pro, there is way more setting and customization than I am used to, so this will be a great initial setup video as well as a gaming settings tuning help video. Thank you so much for making this
I'm getting a strange plastic noise from the touchpad when I tap it. Like a plastic flex noise. Do you get this on yours?
@@andrewfreeman88 I do not, but I also do not use the touch pad much as I use a mouse. My touchpad was very stiff and clicky right out of the box when I was testing and checking everything though
@@BROCK_WARHAMMER Okay thanks
26:15 To get even more battery life, especially when you know that you will be using your laptop on battery for quite some time, you can also set the refresh rate to 60Hz. That makes a significant difference.
screen also automatically goes to 60hz on silent mode too, right?
doesnt make thaat much difference for me. Ill keep my 165hz on since i paid for it lol, its just too smooth to scacrifice
@@kobekznit looks great but for some reason I don’t notice a big difference between 60 and 165hz. This is my for panel higher than 75hz though but still. It looks a little smooth and that’s about it.
thank you for this video, you did an amazing job bro!
Awesome video, helped me with my ROG Strix laptop, I have it over two years and I have learned new things from this video that I didnt know before
Be sure to take the 30 seconds to modify the registry so the power options menu shows CPU boost options. Mine didn't show by default.
How do you do that?
Hi, how do you do that?, I was checking mine rigth now and it doesn't show CPU boost options.
@@edwinsanchez8698 just lookup regedit for the asus laptop
I think the specific setting is the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00\be337238-0d82-4146-a960-4f3749d470c7
Right click it, change attributes to be 2 (when it was previously 1)
Josh keep going man, if you keep this up you'll be monetized in no-time!
Your audio is really clean. What mic did you use?
Also good amount of tips and clearly explained.
Let me give you a little boost and share your video! 1k subs is within reach man.
Aye I've watched your vids man, great stuff. Just got my Legion 7 RTX 3080 a few days ago
Thank you so much! I’m literally using a $100 Behringer mic, lol. The Behringer B-1 😂 I own more expensive mics but it just sounds so good. Also a musician so I use Waves plugins to compress and clean it up. Really appreciate it though!
Voice is realy good
GREAT video man! tomorrow I'll get the G15 and this is perfect to start
the best video i have ever seen regarding the g15 . thankyou
This video is downright amazing. Wish I'd found it sooner. You've basically summarized all of my countless hours of reddit scouring in just 40 minutes.
Just a quick question though. I've got a strix g15 advantage (with the RX6800M) and it runs really well but really hot. The GPU TGP exceeds 145W and idk whether to be worried or not. Edge temperatures are alright (~70-74) but hotspot temperatures (usually AAA titles on 1440p high) touch 100C. And I've got a 5900HX so that stays locked in at 95 as well. Haven't tried undervolting yet but I have improved airflow by raising the laptop while plugged into an external monitor.
czcams.com/video/VrPbdEnMH-A/video.html that's the fix
Another top notch G15 video. Very helpful to me. Thank you.
I used this for My G14. Awesome video and breakdown! Thanks!

Wish this was available a year ago but at least I found this now :) you are amazing!

It's funny you mention that huge rabbit hole. Who hasn't played in that way too long too many times. It's nice to point it out. Kind of puts things in perspective. It definitely helps getting out that hole
THANK YOU, KING!
This video is amazing, so helpful. Thank you so much bro
Thank you !! Just thank you ! This was such a good video for someone that doesn't really understand much about all this and is trying to get the best out of a new laptop. Instantly subbed. Also, i just wanna add that you have an excellent voice for voice overs ! 🙏 It was like a hug (makes sense in my head) 😂😂
Thank you! Especially on the voice comment, I appreciate that 😂
One thing I've been trying to figure out is sound levels. Some games are quite no matter volume. Some games like forza 5 are loud and normal. I will check out atmos as you suggested. The best up and coming channel!
Edit. Yes Dolby atmos was killing volume levels. Especially in RDR2
Liked and subbed! I just got this laptop with the 3080 GPU and I have been loving it! Thanks so much for the video this was really helpful! :)
For sure, thanks for the support!
You answered a lot of questions I had. Thanks!
Glad you found this helpful, thanks for watching!
Legend, really needed something like this as Im not squeezing enough power out of my Zephyrus S17
What was your fix. I was getting amazing fps. I got nvidia, windows and asus updates and I took a hit across all games. Really frustrated with windows lately
