I am feeling so jinxed. All the mtb companies that are putting out awesome modern aggressive hardtails are going out of business/ bankruptcy. Guerilla Gravity, Ragely, Kona, Pole.

Thinking about doing this to my DV9, would you reccomend a longer fork? Still riding 120mm. 130...140mm ?

Update to this, the newest iteration of the Roscoe 6 is now thru axles and tubeless. 👍

The math isn't adding up, or am I confused? If I run 175mm now and go down to 165mm, wouldn't I need to change my dropper length too? If that was the case, wouldn't the leg extension and everything that comes with it would be the same? I'd have to compensate the dropper length to the new crankset size.

Doesn't the Roscoe 6 have the same frame now? In that case, what's better, the Cannondale Habit HT2 or Roscoe 6?

Why should your rear axle be a thru axle? As opposed to what other axle?

It says it has 130mm of fork travel. Could you just put a fork with more travel on it or is that not possible?

Why are you saying that the Roscoe 7 is a competitor for this bike? It's significntly more expensive. Why not the Roscoe 6?

My last dedicated hard tail was a Yo Eddy, now I ride my 9zero7 fat bike with 29+ wheels in the summer and its a bit of a tank but I love the wheel/tire combo. I've always liked Ritchey when I've ridden them, they just feel fast but not interested in going back to the front wheel weighted kind of ride. Trails here are probably "blue" with some black climbs and chutes or washout rutted nasty mining trail/roads. Long climbs, some very flowy singletrack. Not sure if the Ultra is the one for me, looking like a more slack ride would be better.

I see “cut through” sections of my local trails that have evolved over the years. One section specifically just eliminates the final two switch backs of El Prieto trail on Brown Mountain. It’s obvious the intent was for people to get a faster Strava time.

Would you take DV9 gen2 or yellis screamy gen3?

I'm considering a gearbox because I hate 12 speed. It is a step backwards from 11 speed that shifted perfectly. I have several bikes. One is a 3x9, one is a 1x11 and the other is a 1x12. Out of all of them the worst shifting bike is the 12 speed. The 3x9 is running old XTR from 14 years ago, shifts beautifully but it's noisy going down hill. The 11 speed is Sram XO and shifts the best out of the three bikes, never hear any crunching or clicking, it's the best I have ever had. The third is 12 speed XT and that is a dog for jumping, skipping, crunching, delayed shifting and over all poor performance. I can set a derailleur up no problem, been working on my own bikes and gears for 35 years. 12 speed is just a poor system. 11 speed all day!

Are these bars strong enough to ride easy trails with a few step downs?

I ride handcycles and these make a big difference. We are different where both out crank arms are parallel to eachother rather than the 180 degree difference with an able bodied bike. Using your arms pedaling is a lot more difficult as the muscle groups are smaller. All that said, any advantage is needed.

Specs on trail dog?

Pretty sweet! There was a time when all I had was vintage skip tooth cruiser bikes. So when I got into Trail riding all I had was a stripped down rusty 1947 Hiawatha. No Mods what so ever except a set of white fat frank tires. I rode it on the trails till I built up my current trail bike. That old bike was a blast for sure. I just started converting an old Schwann style cruiser bike into a Klunker. I am looking forward to riding it on the trails this summer.

Hey Steve! I am currently thinking about selling my 23 Ripmo af because I think it may be too much bike for me and the riding I do for now, and to get a hardtail instead. Would you say it is a good idea to sell it and get a cheaper hardtail such as san quentin 2, or cannondale habit ht 1? Or what other slightly more aggressive HT would you recommend, IF it is a good idea to sell my ripmo? =)

The Pinion gearbox is great... for now. What's going to happen in 5 years when the technology advances? The gearbox and bike frame are shaped to fit each other. In the future, when Pinion makes a new gearbox, you'd have to retrofit it to your frame. The Pinion gearbox isn't future proofed like the proven chain, chainring, cogs, and derailleurs.

I love bikepacking. I also use a rear rack with small panniers along with handlebar and fork bags. I use a rigid fatbike and I have gone into some very adventurous places such as riding 70km of beach on Haida Gwaii. It’s truly an adventure to travel this way and is only rivaled by canoe tripping

Modern geo made me stop riding one of my classic bikes , which is my 1992 KONA Hei Hei that no longer goes in the woods as its now an urban BMX , rail trail queen since about 2015 as I no longer enjoy feeling like i'm going to endo while going downhill. Other than that my old bike is perfect in an urban/city environment as its very light and small.

This is a really good channel . I have tried so many wheels tires forks stems and other stuf . I have mullet my canyon stoic bike. It was a little long for me and low stack hight . now it feels great . Also shorter cranks and more backsweep steer .

Hey Steve, just hearing about all this and gutted for you man. Have had to take some forced time off in the past myself and side hobbies definitely help! A couple good ones are to get a puppy and/or a 3d printer, however, one requires more energy than the other… Learning CAD and being able to create things out of thin air is really cool and a great creative outlet. I rode this on my Specialized Fuse 29er last fall. I exploded my freewheel at the top and had to coast the entire way down. It was still a blast. 😂

I am torn between this and the Niner SIR 9. I love the Pinion but I don't know if I will miss the Reynolds 853.

wonder what would be involved in adding lockout to the PNW Coast suspension... one would have to presume that there would be no disadvantage (besides maybe weight and cost) vs a traditional dropper at that point.

I am an aircraft mechanic and i bought the 5 piece set of Knipex and had a stomach ache for a week from the cost.
