  • Prevelo makes my favorite bikes for kids and small riders. The quality of these bikes and their components is higher than many of the adult bikes I receive for review on the channel. They feature modern geometry, an aluminum frame, size-specific fork and cranks and wheels, hydraulic disc brakes, air adjustable suspension forks with a lockout and adjustable compression settings, tubeless ready wheels and tires, and even have an available dropper upgrade. These are serious mountain bikes built to last from one kid to the next. The kids love them, and I have loved working on them. I haven't found another brand that does a better job sizing kids bikes and building serious bikes in multiple sizes meant to tackle real MTB trails. This video is sponsored by Prevelo bikes. After seeing these Prevelo bikes at Sea Otter classic 2023, I knew I wanted to feature them on the channel. So I reached out and we partnered together for this sponsored video. I am beyond impressed with these little bikes. They've been robust, easy to work on, and easy for the kids to ride. So few companies take into account proper geo (look how long the chainstays are on almost any kid bike), size-appropriate cranks and wheels, and absolutely fantastic components. Kids have it lucky these days. If you're ordering a prevelo, make sure to order through using this link to support the channel: bit.ly/49f7Rlh
    Special thanks to Henty for providing the hip packs and seveniDP for providing the helmets for the boys.

    What an amazing video. Actually seeing the size of a kid in each bike!!! Great. Now I have a reference for my 8 year old. Thank you

    100% agree with the kid who had the foam on his head. That is absolutely what you do with that foam!

    YES. Get kids psyched to ride by giving them high quality equipment of their own. Huge proponent of that, nice work highlighting great mtbs for the kids, Steve!

    Really great video, Steve. Well-timed for a lot of us with kids who are graduating into serious bikes. I just bought and tuned up a Woom Off Air 6 for my 11-year old daughter. Like the Prevelo line, I'm very impressed with the build, geo and sizing of this brand for kids. And I think the Woom comes in just a bit lighter than the Prevelo's weight by about 2 pounds. I'm so grateful for these kid bike options!

    This was an awesome comparison. Thanks for giving an idea for size vs height and comfortability. Also love how it was still HT. Cant wait for whats next.

    Awesome stuff. If you give someone decent equipment, they have a decent chance of success on it. It doesn't mean they will love the sport but at least they will understand what the sport is about.

    I think no amount of words can be expressed by the MTB community to Mircoshift for producing such affordable, reliable and of decent quality drivetrains which what partly made this affordable real hardtails for kids possible.

    • @hardtailparty
      @hardtailparty  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Exactly. We need far more products like microshift. 95% the performance of xt at 1/3 the price.

    Great video. I rebuild a second hand Orbea MX24 dirt for my son this summer. Rigid fork. Most of these "entry level" mountainbikes come with a very heavy coil fork with an adult weight spring in them (aka useless). Replaced nearly everything (wheels, upgraded from some entry level shimano stuff to Microshift acolyte, new rim brakes, and fatter tires and thinner handlebar and grips) This all cost me about the same as the current version of this bike new but it was a fun project and learned a lot about maintaining our bikes. It's certainly not a rowdy as these bikes, but the Dutch conditions don't really need that anyway.
    One thing to add: Weight of a bike is a very important factor at these ages, sometimes I see kids bikes around here that are 10kg+ up to 50-75% of the riders weight. Try to pedal that uphill.

    Great video! Incredible how full featured these mountain bikes for kids have become - so cool! I noticed the colorful hydration packs that the boys were wearing, are they kid-specific? How much water do they hold?

      It's been so much fun to share my love of riding with my daughter. It's not really her thing (yet) but she's going to have every chance to enjoy this sport.

  • @JoshTaylor
    @JoshTaylor Před 6 měsíci

    My 4 yr old daughter is on the 16" Zulu 2 and the seat post is maxed out. She rides it well on green trails but often pedals so fast she's spinning her own legs out, and often times gets hung up clearing roots (I think due to the tire diameter).
    Prevelo's sizing chart says she's too short at 42" for the Zulu 3. I don't want to toss her on the 20" too soon and have her lose confidence, like you eluded in the video. I wish there was a way to get her on one to test fit prior to committing to purchase.
    That said, I've looked at competitor brands and gut feeling is that Prevelo is doing it right with their parts and geo.

    Wonder where I can buy that fork on the Zulu 5. Looks like a decent option for anyone looking for a new fork for their old 26er.

    • @hardtailparty

      I'm not sure. But 5dev makes my favorite cranks at the moment and they have really short options. I have a discount code in my video description.

    we've moved beyond the give away junk bikes and both my daughters are on Specialized (4 and 6) - and they love them, but this summer they both got into scootering... I hope I get them back to 2 wheels and a crank! these bikes are awesome, but deffo not in a price category for the poors

    • @hardtailparty
      @hardtailparty  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Mountain biking, and almost any other hobby, is not inexpensive. You know what they say: "affordable, lightweight, and high quality. Pick two. That said I feel like the price is spot on for what you get. These are better specced than a lot of $1800 bikes I get in for review.

      Also in my experience, quality bikes for kids keep their value. So you get a lot of your money back if you take good care of your stuff. My 14YO is now 6’4’’ so you can guess I bought and resold many bikes to keep up😂

  • @stevencole7331
    @stevencole7331 Před 6 měsíci

    Its nice to see kids bikes not weighing in at 30 pounds or more and probably if you compared that weight to a adult that bike in reality could be like a 75 pounds or more for a kid . Think about going to your favorite trail riding a 75 pound bike and thats what many kids are riding .
    Nice bikes and a decent pricepoint for what you get . Maybe in the future little dusty will do bike reviews

    • @hardtailparty
      @hardtailparty  Před 6 měsíci

      Exactly! Little dusty has to learn to enjoy riding first. But once she does, she'd be a great reviewer.

      Geometry is probably the least understood, yet most important aspect of bike shopping. The MTB community is definitely learning to read geo charts better though.
