I bet the reason why your MMO anode wasn’t working is one of the two: (1) it was either a fake one, and it was never gonna work properly, or (2) you connected it as a cathode in the past, which reduced the oxides and left you with a surface that was susceptible to corrosion under electrolysis.

I learned of DDT through one of my chemical engineering classes because a big chemical plant that produced it in California was severely contaminating the coastline around it, and it specifically made eagle eggshells very thin and they were almost wiped out because of it. We had some homework problems on calculating the steady-state flux of DDT particles thru capping sediment, and the concentration of DDT as a function of time and distance deep in the sediment. Good times

The single largest use of strontium was as chromate, a sparingly soluble (about 0.015g/100ml water) anticorroaive pigment. Every plane you ever saw was coated inside and out with an epoxy primer that contained as much as 40% strontium chromate in the dry film. That's tens of kilos per airframe. It was used on all military naval and land chassis and structures, too, although they started to phase it out for obvious, carcinogenic and long term environmental toxicity reasons long before aircraft builders did. Basically nothing works as well, for as long, as strontium chromate does as an anticorrosive pigment in paints. The secret is that sparing solubility - just enough to throw soluble chromate if the paint film is damaged, to protect the underlying metal, without being used up all in one go.

candlemaking dude here - just FYI most candles aren't pure paraffin - they very often have soy and other waxes in them, even coconut oil, to get different properties, strengths, glass adhesion properties, etc. I'm not sure what side reactions this may cause, with all the added amino acids, but just FYI if you do this in the future - it's pretty easy and cheap to just get paraffin from candle suppliers or even camping stores, for waterproofing. it should actually be quite slimy at room temperature... which the "dry" candle tells me there's probably a decent amount of soy additives in that candle.

Pyrethroids are great, because they decompose quickly on light, but need to contact the insect. Where as neonicotinoids are systematic pesticides that are absorbed by plants and very slowly decompose. What is funny about EU legislation is that we cannot buy the most basic chemicals like H2SO4 or H2O2, because one can make a bomb out of it XD

In the future, if you need activated, pure carbon, get a paint can and puncture a small hole in the lid. fill with wood and put in a hot bonfire while you have a beer. the lack of oxygen will turn the wood into perfect, activated charcoal. my neighbor has a woodshop and I do that with sawdust and plane shavings, and it makes really fine, perfect activated carbon.

I mean, sure, some of those price hikes were due to the mine closures and related supply crunch, but the main reason - as with pretty much all major price jumps since ca. 2008 - is, put simply, price gouging and speculative trading. With the ongoing deregulation of the financial industry, literally everything is turned into a financial asset, and the finance "industry" "produces" massive profits by buying up stocks of various materials and selling them at a premium. The pandemic exacerbated the effects of this and made it easier for them to do, which is part of why many things have gone down since, but it's an ongoing problem, and far from a new one.

Maybe it need to analyce what is that brown color. Then we can attack on it the right way.
