My concern for Sellars isn’t or won’t be necessarily his fault. There are many many fans who are going to be disappointed if he’s not (excuse me) Deshaun Watson like. Say he’s pedestrian & we still win the first game but lose a close game to Kentucky, these fans or a lot will be calling for Ashford. And that may mess with Sellars confidence. I hope this doesn’t happen but fans need to be prepared that it’s possible.

I believe Powell would be a good hitting coach, but his forte is catchers understanding infield defense and manging pitchers. His staff might include people like Justin Smoak , Scott Wingo et al.

I want to digress with a football question. I have asked this question to many sports pundits who either don't answer , or dance around it. I wil preface my question with a short soliloquy. LaNorris Sellors is one of the most touted players ever at SC standing 6'3" 245. I've seen film of him dominating at South Florence. A small but very impressive showing in mop up time last year. He is spoken of in the highest terms being compared to Cam Newton , Anthony Richardson, Lamar Jackson et al. Expectations are similar to Jackson Arnold et al. When I look at recruiting rankings he has no national recruiting number. He is rated number 7 player in SC and number 34 QB nationally. What am I missing ?

I have stated this ad nauseum. If they hire either Josh Elander or Landon Powell they will win big year one and put asses in the chairs at Founders. You will have excitement renewed enthusiasm etc. Kingston and Gary Gilmore said the quiet part out loud. A lot of this comes down to NIL and you've got to get a coach who understands this aspect. Last years team had bad pitching and defense. The defensive stuff is particially coaching and particially personnel. I like Monte Lee and i will support this program no matter what. At this time i would not hire Monte Lee. Everything screams no. I don't want Matt Williams as the pitching coach. I like the fact that Elander is young. Elander is the reason Tennessee is favored to win the CWS. If we don't hire him or Powell we're gonna be sitting here in a few years when he's the head coach at Texas and we're getting run ruled, and saying damn , we could've had him. Hire Elander or Powell and make a serious run next year.
