- You might be thinking that there's no way that Dawn Staley and South Carolina's women's basketball program could actually get better this offseason coming off the heels of a 38-0 undefeated national championship run. However, rumblings came out on Thursday afternoon that Stanford transfer Kiki Iriafen, who's widely considered the best portal prospect out there, is slated to visit Columbia this next week. How should we interpret all of this? Andrew breaks down Kiki's skillset, discusses which player could benefit the most from her hypothetical arrival, and talks the recent commitment of Rodney Colton to Shane Beamer and South Carolina's football program!

WHEN UCONN HAD ALL THE PLAYERS IN THE MID 2000'S NOBODY WAS COMPLAINING! #SECISWHEREYOUWANNABE
She entered the portal as a DO NOT CONTACT she’s the one that contacted Dawn not the other way around! If she wants to join Dawn’s Daycare who are we to say no?
Tell em’ Bree Wayne! Facts can’t be challenged.
Exactly!!
Never thought of that 🤔. Good point.
That's going to be a tough call for Coach Staley, if KiKi were 6'6" or 6'7", maybe...
Fantastic point.
Dude you have to say her last name right. It is like Erie-ah-fin.
I realized afterwards that I had the name misspelled in my notes. That’s on me. Hopefully she comes to Columbia which would force me to get it down pat haha
KiKi is nice! If she commits to South Carolina…ooooweeee!!!
I feel like we’re almost too stacked but I trust Coach. If they take her, they’ll have a plan for working her into the rotation. KiKi, Joyce and Chloe can rotate at the 4. Ashlynn and Faegan at the 5. This will give Adhel time to redshirt and heal completely.
And the Dynasty Continue
Adhel can’t redshirt. She’s redshirting this year. But it would allow her to rotate in at her own pace.
I also think Joyce and/or Chloe can rotate in the 3 position a bit too as Bree really doesn't have a true backup. So the minutes at the 4 and 5 won't be as log jammed as people are making it seem.
@@terrichristensen9766 But she only got here in January didn’t she? You’re saying this counts as a full redshirt year?
Adhel is already rehabbing and been been for the whole year
As a Lady Gamecock fan, I think we have a strong enough team with our current players. We also have some very good freshmen coming in. But what I liked about this year is Coach Staley had two very good teams. All other teams had to play their starters for most of the game. Hopefully Coach Staley has relayed the message of no one player has to win it all for the Gamecocks. She spreads playing time between all her players.
We aren't strong enough in the post now.. with Kamilla leaving we lost our defensive anchor. We only have two elite post players kitts and Swatkins.. Faegan is okay but not elite we have Edwards comings from high school but Dawn won't start her over kitts and Watkins.. Adel Tac is injury prone so would it be safe to add one or two post players ? Absolutely
As an LSU fan, if this happens, imma go cry in the car😢
😂😂
🤗
🤣🤣
😂😂
Hilarious 😂😂😂😂
I thought the same thing about how beneficial getting Kiki would be for Joyce and your right their game is similar. ..
Tara coach dawn and is a mentor to dawn. I'm sure Tara advised Kiki to at least visit sc
Great point. Go back to the 90s with their time on the Olympic team.
You used “smoke” in the wrong context for your title. “Smoke” stated in that context indicates there’s a problem. It’s all love for Kiki and the FAMS. Idk if you’re trying to keep up with black verbiage but you used it wrong
No, that’s not my intent. Simple play on words “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire”
Nah! He used it right. It just went over your head this time, my friend. †
Showtime!!!!
Joyce Edwards can play the 3! She can guard the perimeter, she has a jumper & she can get to the rim.
Also please take a little time to make sure you are pronouncing these young ladies names right!
If you’re going to play the wing, however, you need some semblance of an outside shot and Edwards, from what I can tell, doesn’t have that in her game right now.
And yes, I did mess up on her last name. Had it written down wrong and that’s my fault. I’ll have that corrected for next time.
Hi Andrew - pls check your spelling and pronunciation of her last name.
I understand that I messed that up, and will make sure next time to have it corrected.
Appreciate you tuning in.
Iriafen is big on Academics. So that has to be playing a role in where she goes. It's interesting that Dawn actually helped in developing a new program with administrators to give Edwards the type of programs she was looking for, which was integral in her making her final decision.
The difference is Joyce is from Camden 35 miles from Columbia. She wanted to stay close to home, my friend. †
@@Mr..G Did you see her interview when she talked about the academic program? If this was strictly a decision to stay close to home, then she would have said so, my friend.
@@krbcan1569
The better question is did you read what I said or see the interview yourself, my friend. I never said close proximity to home was strictly the reason for her decision, and neither did she say academics were. I'm saying that close proximity to home is the difference in their situations. If academics were the sole reason, then logic says she would have went to a school with a proven engineering program like Stanford or USC rather than SC that has never had one. The program was started because she wanted to come to SC. SC was not started because she wanted to come to the program. She said her top choices all had good academics, but the SC coaching staff was the difference. She also said she loved the state of South Carolina because they had the best players. Her mom also said that being 30 minutes from home would allow them to come see her play. You were doing passive listening, my friend. †
@@krbcan1569Just for you, my friend: †
*"It’s really crazy when I think about it,” Edwards said, reflecting on her recruiting process. “Especially since we traveled across the United States to go to visits, to go to colleges. *Home was just in my backyard.”*

Hey Capt. Will what's the latest News Did South Carolina get someone out of the Portal who is fire.
We don't need any other😢player on our Lady gamecocks it would destroy next year's team leave this team alone. Do no make any changes. They areterrific and our fans will be upset and maybe desert the game with Asad plea listen to your faithful fans
Kiki was tired of carrying Stanford. She'll have help if SC becomes her home.
Nope she will be at the other USC because she wants to stay west coast but it would be dope for her to spend one year elsewhere in a place where she would for sure be a lottery pick with Dawn's year of mentoring
I agree, I just don't see KiKi coming all the way to the East Coast, but then again, Tehina Pao Pao did!
She contacted Dawn and then chose to transfer to USC
I aint even fair anymore.
Kiki playing style is just like Aja Wilson
I noticed that as well!
In the interview, Kiki also said she wanted a Natty - best option - SC 🏆🏀
OMG if she goes to S.C. it's OV. She would be a good fit at S.C.
Adele Tac will have to sit & earn her minutes off the bench & Edwards too. It’s the way around here.
Adhel needs to be brought along slowly. Joyce will now not have the spotlight shine as bright on her at the beginning which will allow her to focus more on basketball.
You mean it’s the WINNING way
Drew da man!!
Do you mean Southern California?
I would like to get Aaronette Vonleh from Colorado
I didn't know Edwards don't have much of a jump shot in her game....Wow
I wouldn’t say she doesn’t but she said that is an area of her game she would like to work on.
She has a solid midrange jumper. It’s just that her range doesn’t extend much beyond 15-18 feet, which is completely okay for now. By her junior season, however, I’m sure the staff would like for her to be somewhat of a perimeter threat.
Come on down to Carolina town and u a ring baby
Hello we don't need other want to be claiming a title for one year of play.. keep our team the way it is.....
SHE WILL COMMIT
Only thing I’m worried about is she’s taking a visit to usc so it’s very likely that she will want to stay home
Would be huge Paul!
You could be right, but I heard the same thing about Sarah Strong, my friend. †
You were right!!
Loving the new cut, just need some tats on you face and people will think you straight outta the clink.
🤣🤣🤣
Who will we lose 😑🥲?
We won't lose any one, Dawn's not going to let that happen.
Never know what can happen. Dawn always preaches competition and earning your spot. Only one I could see leaving is Feagin or maybe Kitts. Have one and two years left of eligibility, respectively.
Stop making things up = Kiki chose her team (USC Trojans) before she entered the portal, but you already knew that = South Carolina never looked at her, talked to her or tried to get her = relax bro
She's joined Juju and gettin a bun doesn't matter though
She apparently is choosing the fake usc. Oh well we will be just fine
I assume you’re referring to the original USC.
She was never coming to the East Coast.
This aged like yt women who smoke cigarettes 😂 Next time get a players name right 🚶🏽♂️
Greatful for the visit but Kiki to Carolina chances are slim
Can't be to slim if she has a do not contact and she contacted Dawn .
How is that? If she wants to win a National Championship she'll go because we're repeating for sure
@@Prolific80sbabyyou’re right..
100% back what rover7139 said
@@LockedOnGamecocks I agree
The fact that she reached out to Coach Staley speaks volumes.
I heard that her parents are going with her.
I just don't think SC should be tampering with their lineup. The current lineup is strong enough for another title run. I have all the confidence in the world in Swatkins,Edwards, and Feagin
Yeah...they shouldn't try to improve their team, that makes no sense at all.
All teams try to improve their teams in sports college and pro.
@rover7139 I can understand other teams trying to improve but if you're SC why try fixing something that isn't broken? You run the risk of bringing someone in who will disrupt the chemistry the team has worked so hard to build and also for coach Staley it potentially undermines her brilliant coaching skills with people accusing her of building a "super team"..That's just my opinion. SC has 13 5 star recruits on the team. It's different if they are doing it because they are uncertain Adel Tac will remain healthy throughout the season. That's a different story...
@@Robert-uc5pb you not making any sense ,you don't have to brake something to improve it, standing still after you win a championship while other teams improve is how your competition catch up too you... never get complacent . that's how it is in sports.
@rover7139 I'm not making sense to you because you are thinking out of greed, irrational greed. Coach Staley showed her coaching brilliance by leading a new starting five and a team of freshmen to an undefeated season and championship. She adds Iriafen then that undermines her coaching accolades because then folks will say, "She built a super team..They should've won it all"! Gone are the Coach of the year awards for Staley and the credibility as a great coach. Most players probably didn't have any problems whatsoever with the addition of Pao Pao last year because they knew they needed a 3 point shooter who could knock down 3's so that acquisition from the portal was justified. But going out to get Iriafen makes little sense in my opinion. Obviously you don't care about legacy and credibility...
@@Robert-uc5pb stop talking about sports you're embarrassing yourself
This guy loves to talk sports gossip no facts at all just speculation
This isn’t gossip. It’s an ongoing story regarding the top portal prospect in women’s college basketball.
Nice try.
If i was robbing a bank, id stay far away you guys!!! Did yall ever think that KIKi didnt want her biz out... probably wont come now cause yall telling her secrets... remember Kawahi
We’re not the only ones talking about it.
Please research player's name for spelling and pronunciation before posting videos. This is offensive and rude (not to mention lazy!!)
If Kiki said she wants to go to Uconn, everyone would say, great choice, she will be great at Uconn. She wants to go to south Carolinia it's unfair because they have such a good team already/ oh wow!! amazing how that works.
It really would be a great choice since Aaliyah Edwards is gone, my friend. †
@@Mr..G Not really/ USC has a better team.
@@marcussmith1885 SC may have the better team, but they weren't the better fit, my friend . †
11:44 As good as Kiki is, I would prefer to keep the team intact and not lose anybody than get Kiki. The team has already gelled and work well together, and having played a season together (going undefeated) they should be better and more experienced next season. Kiki may be a small upgrade over some players, but not big enough of an upgrade to disrupt the chemistry this team has now and let someone go (or for her arrival to make someone leave). I do agree that her arrival would benefit Joyce, but also Kitts.
Unless Kiki wants to trade minutes for a "potential" championship, there are no benefits for her coming. Any benefits for Kitts would be out weighed by the fact that her minutes would be cut significantly and the mental effects of it. Joyce might pick up a pointer or two, but although they are similar, they're also quite different. Joyce's biggest obstacle will be getting used to the speed of the game at the college level.
While Kiki is an awesome player, she is not a coach or a finished product, who is still learning herself. Kamilla watched Boston for a year, yet in the end nothing about their game is similar. She still misses bunnies often, and unlike Boston has no post move. Real development will come from the coaches who get paid to do it and game time experience. The greatest beneficiary of this "potential" move would be Coach Staley and her increased opportunity to win natty #4 at the risk of current players no longer *"trusting the process."* But who knows if Kiki will even come, so we shall see, my friend. †
