  • Dawn Staley said on a radio appearance on 107.5 The Game earlier this week that South Carolina women's basketball guard MiLaysia Fulwiley is coming into the offseason with the mentality to push for a starting spot. While that might sound an extremely generic storyline on the face of it, this newfound mentality from Fulwiley could have a positive reach on her teammates at the guard positions and the rest of the Gamecocks as a whole. How so? Andrew talks how Fulwiley's goals could affect Raven Johnson, Tessa Johnson and Te-Hina Paopao, and discusses the two position groups from South Carolina's football team that changed his opinion on them this Spring, one in a positive way and one in a negative way!

Milaysia Fulwieley bucking for a starting spot, to my mind Bree Hall should be the most concern. After a 20 -25min game, she consistently shows up the least in other statistical categories. Fewer steals, reb, free throws. Her being a Sr. might be her saving grace.

Raven nor Te-hina have anything to worry about. Raven plays the most minutes for a reason, mostly because Dawn trust her decision making. Bree may have to worry maybe.

I think if the o line can move some people we're looking at a ton of zone read and two tight end formations. I don't know enough about the personnel on offense to draw much of a conclusion. Who was that big receiver that Sellors connected with in the Furman game. It would be interesting to see some of that good defensive talent play a little offense in short yardage situations. It all comes down to basics blocking , tackling, staying on the field in short yardage situations, and getting off the field in short yardage situations. What do you think about us hosting a regional and or a super ?

I admire her saying that she’s going to push to be a starter. However, she would never start over Raven. Raven is trusted not only by the staff but the other players. Raven is a pass first point guard that follows with what Staley likes. Fulwiley is a human highlight first then others. Seeking a human highlight spot doesn’t always exist. If the ball gets stuck…then Fulwiley is it. But, the highlight first wouldn’t have secured that natty….or that undefeated season. That natty and unblemished season occurred first because of the extra passes, the rim protection, the limiting of turnovers and then the highlights. If Fulwiley moves in the direction of first making others around her better …not letting the ball get stuck and getting a better grip on when to slow it down and when to speed it up, she may become a starter.

I hope Adaway is that hammer. We have to get some blocking up front. I think the backs are solid. We need those young lineman to develop quickly.

How about a 6’5” wide receiver with world class speed, who’s able to go and catch deep. How far are we from having that? Or is it a dream? The first two boxes seem to be checked.

I like Andrew's shows , but my goodness everything starts and is centered around women's basketball. We play some pretty good baseball here too. We have a football stadium that holds over 80k people in the SEC. The men's basketball team made the NCAA tournament. The CWS will be in full swing next month and I hope the Gamecocks are in Omaha. We have a road series in the other Columbia starting tonight , and then Georgia and 3rd ranked Tennessee. The Lady Gamecocks are half a year from playing.

You are wrong because Lay plays the 2 guard position. Lay will push Breezy not Raven. Raven is the only one who’s not in danger because she drives Dawn Rolls Royce. She is the best pg in the country that controls the show. Her and Lay play well together because they complement each other so well both offensively and defensively. Breezy struggles with putting the ball on the floor where Lay excels at. You have to watch the team before making a statement about Raven pg job.

She is a combo guard. Maybe not a true point, but she can more than handle that responsibility.
Also, just because you disagree with me and think I'm wrong doesn't mean I don't watch the game. Some of y'all need to check the attitude at the door.

@@LockedOnGamecocks didn’t mean to ruffle your feathers…just a strong disagreement that’s all. But I do have a question? Who job would be more in danger ? Raven, Pao, or Breezy. Watching Dawn Staley over the years she always give her upperclassmen the edge when it comes to starting. Kamilla was a better center than Victoria but Dawn started Victoria. Raven was a better pg than Fletcher but Dawn started Fletcher.

Tessa and Fulwily has to be knocking on the door for a starting position. Kitt and Hall should be bench players. Tessa and Fulwily are more talented. It will be interesting to see how this situation borns out.

Chloe Kitts is not even in that conversation….she’s a forward. She’s long, she rebounds she passes and she’s consistent.
