  • South Carolina's women's basketball team is stocked with talent at the guard position, with veterans like Raven Johnson and Te-Hina Paopao being backed up by MiLaysia Fulwiley and Tessa Johnson. However, with the potential Johnson and Fulwiley both bring to the court, Dawn Staley will have a conundrum on her hands next season as far as how she wants to split up the minutes. Could she harken back to the strategy she utilized in the 2022-23 season? Andrew looks at the complex situation that could create, gives his thoughts on Kendall Daniels Jr. seemingly delaying his announcement, and talks the perfect fit that Minnesota men's basketball guard Elijah Hawkins would be for Lamont Paris and South Carolina's men's basketball program!

    If Tessa just wait, she has her starting spot secured for her junior year behind breezy. As well as Fulwiley. Raven, Fulwiley and Tessa as the starting guards. Patience is key and if they want to win, they will stay

    It's really hard to keep Fulwiley on the bench!!!! In almost all the big games she was the spark we needed to break away. She was our wildcard, her ability to create her own shot was a defensive nightmare. If she gets a consistent shot , ooo wweeee!!!! I believe defense will be the separator. Whoever can guard , control turnovers, assist others gone get the job.

    I think start Raven & Tehina. Then spilt them up during game. Tehina & Tessa did great on court together. Raven & Fuhwiley together. Then rotate accordingly.

      @@anthonytaylor7928 she did do a great job in my opinion. I think having a injured squad and a polarising coach didn't help. I think the freshman will wait they seem to have a great relationship with the coach, plus they've seen the process work. Kamila waited behind aliyah bree waited so did raven, I think its helped them in the long run. I think if they transfer for playing time it will ruin their progress. For example tessa and fulwiley could start on any team so could kits but I dont think they are ready to start on a consistent basis. Bree and raven could because they have the experience.

    The back ups are more skilled all up but the starters have been tested and seen the highs and lows.
    I would call Brie a guard.
    You start them off eitth the same minutes and quickly give them all similar minutes.
    Tessa can be a small forward and Brie can be a small forward also
    The CULTURE has been consistent and Dawn has kept things open.
    They all will go to the league and Brie, Fagsn, Ealker and Pao Pao will be gone.
    At that point Tessa and Fulwiliy will be ready
    They will have to Run MORE and substitute more.
    Dawn may go 3-4 guards also with zeroed or Tessa being the 4th guard.
    They need a stretch 4 like the girl from Oregon State or get Kitts and Fagsn to do that

    This is a great problem to have. Run it back Lady Legends. It is baseball season with football fast approaching. I want to get to Omaha THIS YEAR. No more excuses. Get it done on the diamond. If Bobby Richardson or Ray Tanner was coaching this team that would be the mindset. I like Kingston, but im not content with just finishing in top 25 every other year. This university needs to compete in men's sports for championships.

    Coach Staley is not going to start Milaysia and or Tessa over her two seniors. There will, however, be times she start's three of them at the same time. I would like to see Tessa get more minutes at the 3, but Coach Staley is loyal to Bree who struggles with self-confidence and self-worth. I think that's part of the reason she's not quick to pull her when she's going o for. †

    • @KelzKelz
      @KelzKelz Před měsícem

      You got to watch the gamecocks and understand coach's philosophy. 1st off she don't start seniors for being seniors. She start defensive players over offensive players mostly. Bree Hall o'ers be 0-2 or 0-3, thinking this team is constructed like others give people the wrong impression. Raven and Hall probably will start for their defense, Paopao may go to the bench in favor of Lay because of defense. This is also a reason why Tac has a good chance to start. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Tac, Watkins, Hall, Lay and Raven starting. That's coach philosophy not what most teams do. Unless she change it up.

    • @Mr..G
      @Mr..G Před měsícem

      @@KelzKelz I've been watching Coach Staley for years, as a player and as a coach; however, she doesn't always start players based on defense. Raven was/ is a much better defender than Kierra Fletcher and they both averaged 4 points, yet Kierra was the starter. Te-Hina is a defensive liability, yet she starts even though Milaysia plays better defense and averages more points. The common thread with Te-Hina and Kierra is, they both were seniors. There is no way Te-Hina doesn't start next season, and barring major injuries, there is no way Tac does. Milaysia won't either unless it's in a special 3 guard situation. Everyone raves about Bree's great defense, but like me, they can"t name one quality scorer she has ever held below their average, certainly not two. We saw what CC did to her in just one quarter, but had it not been for foul trouble, she would have gotten her usual minutes.
      I understand a senior not starting due to lack of ability, e.g., Sakima, but I also understand Coach Staley's philosophy very well. And yes, it does include defense, just not in the way most think. Unless a senior's defense is costing the team wins, she will get the nod if the competing player is not head and shoulders better. Trust the process is code for "I need y'all to split time, so I can keep you from hitting the portal," my friend. †

    12 ways allows all the ( horses ) to run wide open Thats how you do it again.
    Kinda like what they did last year ..See ,even i could coach from home

  • @MichaelCampbell-vo1kj
    @MichaelCampbell-vo1kj Před 27 dny

    It's not a tough decision, it's the same starting four players and you bring Fulwylie Tessa Johnson off the bench. This season was Coach Staley best coaching, because she didn't get in her own way and let the freshmen players do their thing.

  • @kimberlypaige2939
    @kimberlypaige2939 Před měsícem

    I don’t think nobody is going to transfer because either way you getting playing time but PaoPao minutes might get cut down by 3 and raven minutes to so Tessa in Fulwiley minutes might get more minutes of the bench Don is going to handle this good trust

    •  Před měsícem

      Raven is the ultimate point on this team and I do not envision her minutes will diminish in any fashion. However, PaoPao might be questionable. However, she plays well with Raven. Coach Staley might "toy" with both Fulwiley and Tessa coming off the bench as she (coach) often sticks with whomever is playing well. Nonetheless, coach Staley is a masterful coach and always makes the correct decision.
