I got a GT Stomper Ace MTB 24 in the Deep Teal color for my son's 9th birthday last month. It's such a beautiful bike. The parts are soso but for now he can get used to the bike and eventually when he starts trying wheelies and jumps and what not I will change all the parts. For example Magura MT7 Pro hydraulic disc brakes, RockShox front fork, Shimano Deore XT components except brakes, and so on. When he outgrows this bike and gets new and bigger MTB we will be able to move the parts over to the new BIKE, where necessary. I got him into MTBs, my prayers were answered, I did BMX races in the 80s and beginning of the 90s after that I started doing mountainbiking. After wrecking 3 bikes, a TREK 7000SHX, TREK 8700SHX I moved over to full suspension with a TREK Y33 with upgraded parts and I was on my way to become a professional rider but bad luck struck with my asthma which became much worse all of a sudden. So everything crumbled down. Riding was my life.

As time goes on I'm much less concerned with other people's choices. If they want brain damage or death, continue riding w/o a helmet. What do I care? You have to value yourself enough to take essential precautions. I can't increase another person's common sense or self-worth. The people that are against helmets have never had a head injury or seen a bad one, so they can remain in their delusion until that happens. Like a lot of things in life- it's a pass/fail intelligence test.

When I was about 12-13ish my friends and I were out biking and nobody had helmets on. We were waiting to cross at a crosswalk and one of my friends thought he could make it across, He couldn't and got hit by a car. He had no life threatening injuries but half of his scalp was hanging off of his head, don't think he broke any bones. We had to hold it up while waiting for the ambulance. That was the day I started to wear my helmet everytime I touch a bike. Funny enough I went biking with the same guy last year again and he fell on a mtb trail on a rock drop. No helmet again and he got a dent on his forehead from a rock😂 Hes good though

Interesting. One caveat though- we frequently watch/listen to 2-4 hour music sets with no mid roll ads. CZcams will recommend shorter videos from the same channel but will not recommend the long form with no ads. Go figure. 😏 Watch time is definitely one to look out for.

I was really lucky when I needed a new helmet I bought a Fox Mainframe helmet at half of RRP at a local bike store, I found out that this helmet has a 5 * rating, really good for less than £50 in UK. I kind of forced myself to wear a helmet after I got hit by a car and sustained a head injury and suffered an NDE while in hospital in 1991. I had long hair which I had tied in a ponytail at the time of that incident and my ponytail actually cushioned the back of my head to some extend, enough to not kill me right there, I was told by a doctor in that hospital. I was very lucky and made a fast recovery and back to cycling to work within month after leaving hospital. I made a habit of wearing a helmet even for short journeys as you just never know what lies around the corner, it only took one inattentive motorist for that incident to happen.

You should buy a utility quad bike

Shoot, when I was a kid cars did not have seatbelts. My dad took me and my sister to the store and during a left turn the passenger door flew open and my poor sister goes tumbling out the door. She survived. Took me forever to get used to bucking up. In the Netherlands I have heard that wearing a helmet is not required. Their normal bike commute speeds are slow so maybe they can afford a pass. My helmet cost a fortune but I use it all the time. I have fallen off my bike numerous times and oddly never placed a scratch on my helmet. I keep my gloves, sunglasses and head unit in my helmet when I get home from a ride.

I remember back in the very early 90s when helmets started to be pushed on us. We called them "skid lids" and took the piss out of the kids that wore them. None of us ever wore one but now i'm in my 40s i know better and understand the value of one. I'm unable to ride now but if i could i would wear one 100%

You're right about helmet. As a Dutch guy I either never wore it, but nowadays I do. But living in Spain now, there's another huge disadventage: the sun! A helmet does not protect us that much from the sun as a hood. Still don't know how to solve that.

Assist is adjustable. I you want a workout you have one. Having another tool in your toolbox is never a bad thing.
