Your NEW Source for TOOL REVIEWS, CARPENTRY, AND REMODELING - Zack Dettmore
Check out Zack's videos EVERY WEDNESDAY - buildshownetwork.com/go/zackdettmore
Give Zack Dettmore a GIANT welcome! He is our 3rd brand new weekly video contributor on The Build Show Network and we are SO EXCITED to have his knowledge onboard!!
Zack had an interest in construction starting at age 8. He was homeschooled, which allowed him to pursue his passion from a young age. Zachary started working for a local contractor (Anything Construction) at age 13. He was tasked first with sweeping floors and quickly worked his way up to sweeping ceilings. After doing everything from drop ceilings in Manhattan skyscrapers, to exterior painting on historic homes in New Jersey, Zack purchased his first house. It was a horrible old house that showed him just how bad a renovation can go when it's done poorly. Zack started www.dettmore.com/ with the hope of making an uncompromising company that puts craftsmanship first and tools second!

Hey say this but look you need a house clean seen lot of saw dush under them saw good way burn it down
Rissinger had a great solution to this, bug screen was a corrugated plastic with a mesh on the bottom that stapled along the bottom and top edges. Same air flow and helps ensure bugs in the walls is minimized. Product was cheap too.
Jake, I just posted this question on another video that I think you were in as well. I am installing European windows and my windows are really tall and I was wanting to stand in the seal. Here is the question I posted on another video. OK out of the blue crazy question, I see all the videos of applying the liquid flash starting at the seal, I was wanting to start mine at the head and do the seal last because my windows are so large that I was going to stand in the windowsill to do the head and the jam and then do the windowsill last am I crazy? Is that stupid just thought about it what if I did the window seal just 6 inches in on each side first then the jam and head and then do the middle between the 2 6 inches of the jam last.
I have a question about the way that you bumped out the stool, and returned it into the chair rail. I'm guessing that since you made the chair rail on the fly that it is a different profile then the profile on the windowsill. This has been on my mind for a couple of weeks now. If you don't mind please enlighten me so I can get some sleep! Thank you
I'm doing this starting today 5/02/24. Just me! I'm a DIY'er and took on radiant floors myself instead of leaving it to my contractor. I got the Warmboard with the aluminum foil. Expensive, but this will be my primary heat.
Thanks - very informative.
I am from the future, 2024, 😂, I am a English Gentleman 😂, retired in my 70s , living in France now, over my 50 years of working for my self, I have made most of the doors you speaking about, and renovated them as well, one particular and frame entranceway into a property off the main road, I’ve actually restored and repaired it twice, as it has been hit by two lorries on different occasions, the first time the canopy on the front with the pillars moulded on the side was completely ripped off the side of the building, in the process of laying out all the parts to see how it constructed, it got the date in the inside of one of the panels 1739 , with a person’s name written on the board as well obviously the person who made the door and frame, I find it very interesting how things are constructed over the hundreds of years, And as time moves on with new machinery and technology comes out out, joints and construction becomes more refined, I still have some of my tools and machinery, one particular machine may buy Wadkin EKA 5head , built back in the late 40s early 50s, I restored it, even to this day it is a excellent bit of kit, I’m hoping in the not too distant future to make some new windows for my property where I live in France luckily I’ve got all the kit to do it, I find your territorial very very interesting, I even have some books from America on detailing of doors and cabinetry work ,

Might be nice if you answered the question you put in the title of your video. Or maybe you don't know?
Dude, love that jacket. Where's it from?
Thank you
Do a house in Georgia in the summer
You need to come to Janesville Wisconsin and walk around the Tallman house with me. Lincoln stayed there so it's historical AF
This video would have been better if it showed the process of building the wall framing and how it is anchored to the structure. Using a permanent nailed, how it is anchored to the foundation or columns, then the use of vents (which is a requirement).
Do they have a flat roof solution?
Yes
What's the insulation value?
How can you have a QUEEN Anne and QUEEN Victorian in one? It is either one or the other. You can have a revival, but not an actual QUEEN Anne , during another monarchs reign . Come on guys.
As an American, I’m so excited to see this level of quality exists out there. And that some people are able to take it for granted because to them it is normal.
Don’t ever work at versatex! Worst job ever! I’m so happy I left that sweatshop!
Fantastic information!
I saw a guy remodeling his bathroom with a jackhammer and barely missed one of these tension cables. He then decided to put the toilet right above it 🤣
Man, you've gotten FAT. What's the deal?
That’s awesome!
I have to do some drilling in my 1974 garage slab to install a car lift, will a bosch tool for metal and stud detection would point out if and where the rebar, or tension cable if present is?
There is a movie on this ???? If someone remembers please tell.
An old Victorian mansion's which interior wasn't "modernized" or with all the complex wood patterns and walls painted white. It's a fucking miracle.
My God an effing encyclopedic accounting of doors! Blown away!! Amazing content!!!
unfortunately no hurricane impact tilt turn in UPVC
Whos the manufacturer and name of the window at 15:50?
2:08 he meant "...because the slab's in COMPRESSION..." (from the TENSION in the tendons (cables)).
Showing the horizontal furring strips allowing the vertical application would have been informative. It's alluded to in the whole rain-screen discussion but it's really not clear. The Slicker Max doesn't magically allow you to apply vertical siding which is what is basically said. I assume the idea at 2:20 or so is the Slicker Max allows for the drainage even if you use horizontal furring strips. It has NOTHING to do with nail patterns/fasteners showing etc.
The only thing I take on this is it becomes just a trend. In my opinion I d like to keep Tyveck or another well tested semipermeable system and improve the vapour barrier for better air tightening
The best insulation Is Jhon Manville
America has such beautiful historic homes all over. Victorians have never been my favorite because of the dark mood many have which, of course, are beloved by so many people. However, the Queen Anne style is magnificent!!
Can you add a home addition to an existing post tension slab home?
Are there any special details needed for waterproofing the window?
Ok, so I binge watched the whole series this afternoon. My house feels cold now
lead paint
I charge $55 if the client is insistent that we come to the site to give an "estimate" which in reality is a consultation. We primarily do tree removal and land clearing so its pretty easy to get on google earth/street view to judge a trees size, location, obstructions, and ease of access so I can give a "free estimate" over the phone. Our $55 consultation fee is refundable if they decide to buy from us and that money is taken off of their final invoice. Its not free for me to burn the gas in my truck to drive to you and I also value my time.
Steve, have you ever used or heard of Oknoplast Windows from Poland? They have a dealer in Boston.
I am very surprised that the 2x6 wall studs are so close. Not horrible thermal bridging but completely unnecessary. A 2x6 + 2x4 separated by 2" would have made much more sense. And been cheaper. Many spots could probably even have been double 2x4. I would like to know why they went that route instead.
Hows that compare with an ICF construction? I assume it would be close to comparable cost to build
Is there a AAMA rating on these foil faces?
Awesome content. Has anyone heard of our used Oknoplast Windows. They look very similar. My builder wants me to look at them.
I love the info but i think some of this shit is getting a little crazy. Ive pulled siding off 100 yr old houses that is in really good shape, and they definitely dont do this extra spacing for venting. If these materials are that cheap to where you need 3/8 of space then ill stick with the old ways of doing things. I feel like its all getting redundant and cost tons of extra money. By the team that stuff dtarts to go bad, someone new will be bulldozing it. Theres no such thing as a lifetime warranty.
Amazing !! Love the use of drawing cross sections and the high level loads explained through simple free body like diagram. It's refreshing to see on youtube as a lot of the content is "this is how I've done it for years". Empirical data is great but when you haven't done it for years yourself, understanding the concept and why things are done (engineered) for a reason you can make your own educated decision on how to approach a problem. Thank you
I built our house in 88 and insisted on a "historic style " window. I chose M&W with grids that are at their smallest point 7/8 of an inch. I had to put storms on but builder said after a while you won't see them. True. I had issues with brick moldings and added bull nose treatments. Now with pvc=no more rot. The attic window which catches a lot ended up with a pvc bull also. I read all the repair issues with name brand replacement windows. One company now says "you may need new windows even if you bought them as little as 7 years ago. If doing it today I would go the same way. Oh, those early issues were do to poor calking by original painters.🦇
