It’s not an accident that things look good. Many hours pushing and pulling, challenging thoughts, and reviewing options is all part of the success of a good design. Architects have their own set of tools, order, scale, hierarchy, proportion, and symmetry are just a few of them. This week BIG RED and I take a close look at the front elevation of a current project. We look at how some of those tools helped me to organize the front elevation and instill a strong sense of Architecture to his new home. When it comes to my projects - I’m selfish, and I take it personal. I believe that not only should our buildings last a long time, but that they should be loved everyday of that long life. That love, it isn’t just a tag on a new building, it’s has got be earned. I have found that the best way to “earn it” is to simply give the mind something to resolve easily. That quick resolution translates to a quick appreciation, and appreciation earns that love. Follow me along in this video and watch as we use those architect’s tools to develop that easy resolution, that appreciation, and ultimately earn that love……Enjoy the video my friends - Long Live Our Buildings

Question or just a comment 🤔. As a fire instructor we try to teach new people to look for things like the doors and windows being all inline to have a suspicion of balloon construction. Now obviously no one builds this way any longer. And we do try to express it is only part of the equation. You need to check other constrution features and age of the home. But i could see how an inexperienced Firefighter could think old remodeled farm house. But i love your content. Thanks.

That was a nice way of saying to a customer, no you can’t have it your way.
Do you design your homes inside out or outside in? I’m trying to come up with a rough sketch for my future home and I seem to focus on the inside more than the outside. Started out with symmetry but that’s almost all gone now. I figure I can place fake windows on the outside to make it look appealing.

    Steve,
    I enjoyed your detailed video.
It's a super cool look! I love those small window details.
And yes, the Marine parachuting detail! Ha-ha.
    Cheers,
    Eric

Do you ever get irritated with all the CZcamsrs who build a fully designed project and pretend that they did the design and give zero credit to the hard working architects and engineers in the background who actually designed the project. Many times that's the hard part and the "assembly" build cycle is fairly trivial.
