Join Steve as he walks you through the design and construction of the pool house ceiling. It may be a simple looking structure, but the back story journey is anything but simple. With the help of “Big Red”, he will walk through the structural aspects of designing sloped ceiling joists and the conversations he had with the structural engineer. He couples that information with all the initial architectural thoughts that became the basis for the intent behind the decisions. The outcome is a beautiful volume ceiling, strictly coordinated with the doors and windows to provide a pleasant architectural experience for the years to come…..Long Live Our Buildings

Honestly, there is one little design element here that completely wrecks that "It feels good" aesthetic for me, and that is the unequal wall heights. My eyes were immediately drawn to the fact that the trusses are at different heights on the wall, which forced me to mentally investigate further and determine the source of the incongruity. Even after seeing that the left wall is inset under the trusses by about a foot or so, it still "feels" like the trusses are not square with one another, even though my mind "objectively" tells me that they are. This produces a bit of cognitive dissonance for me, which leaves me feeling not good about it. Just my own personal opinion.
