Oh man so you got Jeff Davidson Gecko-ed with that KnivesByNuge Wicket purchase hahaha!! You KNOW that I feel your pain!! That totally sucks, but you have to admit that it's kind of hilarious that some of these custom knife makers can't take even a tiny bit of constructive criticism about their knive's failures, immediately turn into immature big baby man children, and block you on all social media!!! Like, WTF?!? You can't even TALK about it??? What are you, 12 years old??? They should be doing the healthy, productive thing and opening up a dialogue which would probably improve your damn knives in the long runl!!! Jeez, talk about a run-on sentence lol!!! TLDR: knife makers should be held accountable for shoddy ass work!!! No one likes being Gecko-ed for $300!!!! LOL!!! It's always so relaxing watching you sharpen, Slater!!! I returned a Spartan Harsey with a Damascus blade; it was butter knife dull and I wasn't going to sharpen it myself, didn't want to take a chance on messing up such a beautiful blade. Very expensive knife, and they make those in small batches, so no excuse for that

Great video! We’ve all been there I feel like and I’m so glad you do offer your constructive criticism. Please keep doing what you’re doing because now I know where I won’t be spending my money. If a maker won’t listen to you then they definitely won’t listen or hear someone out like me without a large social media or CZcams.

Don’t worry about maker whinges…nobody enjoys criticism of their products…but intelligent and fair assessments of ANY product makes us all a bit smarter and able to make better decisions…YOUR job is to be fair and intelligent. Please carry on..

Good discussion. The truth is these makers sell crap and fleece buyers with rubbish that any self respecting knife maker will never let leave their shop. Their shoddy work reflects their attitude. Just boycott these brands

QC has been HORID over the past few years.... I've collected PRO-TECH for years and never had any issues..... Just this year alone I've had to send back THREE different knives from them. Also had to send back a Ritter hogue due to horrid QC.

The problem you’re running into is the market you are choosing to review and provide constructive criticism. You’ll be a lot better off staying away from these kinds of products and focus strictly on production knives. Custom knives in the $200-300 range may seem expensive to you from a background in production knives, and for your hard earned money, but I promise you, that is extremely cheap and you are paying for TIME, skill, and level of tooling with handmade knives. Hand made customs from small time makers fall on a huge range of skill levels, but if you’re looking for production knife fit and finish in a custom, you’ll be paying many times more. I really think you’re venturing into dangerous waters. No one making hand made knives gets rich doing it. Feedback is not always welcome. People need to do their research when buying a hand made knife and usually the maker knows better than you do (not always). There’s a lot to unpack, but if you don’t want to get blasted for your naïveté and unwanted activism, you’ll find things much smoother sticking to production where it’s less personal and you have a better sense of appropriate expectations per cost.

Great conversation! I think that there are not too many people or companies that actually tout their heat treat and will put it out there.

People who respond negatively are people that I choose not to do business with. I am a hobbyist, but welcome feedback that will help me make a better knife. With any new product or new steel there is a learning curve. That is the purpose of having other people test knives. The desire is to find the flaws and make the best knife possible. I would love to have some additional equipment, but there is only so much that I can afford to spend on a hobby. I grind freehand, by eye. Everything ends up nice and even but if you really look, you will find clues that say this is hand made. Just like with any other skill, practice, time, and experience are needed to improve. Constructive criticism is a good thing, bashing someone is not, and a negative response is not appropriate!

some makers unfortunately take advantage of what people will pay. knives have gotten so expensive its almost expected to have a steep price. if you look around there are custom makers (handmade) that make knives for even less than some production knives. there usually $500. and up but it's a person, their hands, their mind. JMHO. love your channel

Erica…lil sis…you have to know something. I am a Firearms Instructor for my department and also my Dept’s. Pistol and Rifle Armorer. I was approached by a “friend” a couple years back, they gave me their budget and I selected the Ruger EC9 with the fixed irons. I, foolishly, misjudged Ruger and placed them in the same category as Taurus Semi-Autos. I could NOT HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG. Not only did we go round for round with ZERO malfunctions; for having fixed sights, it is one the most accurate pews I have EVER fired. The EC9 led me to the LCP to the Ruger MAX. Hands down, the EC9 and LCP are pews I trust my life with, and I was humbled to learn how incredibly durable and accurate they are. You made a great choice, and I that is a pistol I would give my OWN daughters to carry. I did not know you carried and that puts a smile on my face. I wish I had your knowledge on knives and blown away at your amazing carry and knowledge and wisdom. I want my girls to be their own person, when they get older, but to say I want them to have your capabilities would be an understatement. Great channel, and you amaze me. I so wanted to train James (JYF) and get him his License to Carry; and I think we may still do it. I found him because of you sister! Take care…I’ll be watching!

I was always under the impression that anything above 58 HRC would start to make the knife brittle and prone to breakage.

Alex Steingraber is the man. I have one of his Gen 1 Sharks and it still performs amazingly. Best heat treat and geometry I have on a blade💯

Many people have a different view of themselves than strangers. Learning the truth can hurt. Not everyone grows in the process. I have several knives from Bear Forest Knife. The steel is very well treated. The finish on the knives could be better. The manufacturer has come to a standstill in its development at this point. I don't like convex bevels either. The manufacturer could make some improvements to the bevel. I always profile the BFK blades myself so that I am satisfied with them. Nevertheless, in my opinion they are excellent working knives. The knives are great in my opinion. The manufacturer also does everything himself. He has no employees. I hope you will review the BFK knife. I am very curious about your valued opinion.

61-63 is acceptable for Nitro-V, 60 is not. At that price, they shouldn't have used a Ken Onion sharpener. After you test it, you should sell it if it passes. Your sharpening is something people will pay for.

To defend Mr Nudge I believe he grinds the bevels by hand. Water jet blanks are a huge time saver when you have the demand I see no issue there

Nuge's ego jumped when best damn EDC did a hack thua on his shit, personaly his designs are mediocre at best and best damn dec fan boys don't know a damn thing about HT, I will admit I was looking at nuges larger fixed blades but his 15 year old girl Tik Tok style reel skits are cringy AF and was a big turn off, these guys all want to pat each other on the back instead of working harder and going upward, just like you said take the good bad and ugly and make it better, thats what life is all about

You made me cringe when you pulled the edge across the stone. I know you don't like Chinese made knives, but I have the Civivi Stormridge in NITRO-V. Haven't had to sharpen it yet, only had very light use. Could use a little more handle length and girth, but... I hope you can do the thing that makes you happy and fulfilled, as a career. I did 20 years 6 months and 14 days in the Navy. Mostly miserable. But I got a half decent retirement out of it. Good luck. Thanks for this video.
