Meet The River-Class Destroyer - State-of-the-art WARSHIP!
We’re celebrating the start of construction activities for Canada’s new fleet of Canadian Surface Combatants (CSC)!
The CSC project will equip our fleet with 15 new, state-of-the-art warships to bolster our capabilities at home, and abroad for decades. Today’s start of construction is on the production test module, where Canada and Irving Shipbuilding Inc will be able to test, adapt and enhance the build process.
This should allow the River-Class Destroyers to be in full rate production in 2025, with the delivery of the HMCS Fraser expected in the early 2030’s.

Just a bit worried about my lack of organization, but we'll find out.
I live on the Mackenzie river as a Dehcho Dene, so naming a "River-Class Destroyer" after a colonizer who just came and went jsut to say he was the "first" to discover it isn't so indicative to celebrating the heritage of my people lol. Anyways the ship looks good tho!!
I from 🇨🇦 and idk why we have just Frigets
To bad I’ll be like 100 years old to see these in action my kids will enjoy
🇨🇦🫡
As a civilian I respect military personnel but not the cause. I used to want to join the army when I was in my late teens I'm so glad I didn't. Rich people keep getting rich by sending young people over seas to fight for oil.
👍
HMCS Defenceless

As an interested civilian it is was educational to get a peak behind the scenes. This was more interesting than I thought it was going to be. Go Canada.
Thank you🫡
I’m a Canadian
Is there any height requirements to join ntog
More vls cells would have been nice.
Back in 1964 when I joined the RCN it was the quality of the veteran PO'S , CPO'S AND the same in the Canadian Army and the RCAF that was the back bone of the CAF. Then along came Pierre Trudeau and the destruction began. It will cost a fortune to fix it now and I do not believe this government has to where with all to get the job done.
It can't break ice over a year old. It also had to end its trials early due to over heating issues that shut down 3/4 DG's
WTF is that timeline? I thought we were supposed to get the first Type 26 frigate in like 2023 or 2024?
Thought Ukraine proved ships yesterdays platforms. Good news for ship yards I guess.
If you can't buy the best, buy British.
i love our navy, its great
I know that you can help me.
Man this ship looks so cool can’t wait to buy one for myself
We probably need naval ice breakers too, to deter Russia and other countries from encroaching our arctic island sovereignty
Our navy is like that of the Russians in 1904.
never join the Military
I thought we bought 6 of these from UK?
There's the hard working Men and Women quietly in the background ...damn time the our boys got something to protect themselves and Canada
My Great Uncle served on the H48 HMSC Fraser in WW2. Great name!
Mais c’est pas pour demain sûrement pas avant 2038 j’imagine 😀
All the way to space😮
Apparently the right wingers believe they can sue at state level keep Biden on ballot in swing states so losing even if he drops out.
This should of started production 12 years ago. Well thats Canada for you. We are slowly catching up with current tech will be obsolete in 26 years
Mid life schedules maintenace or extended life programs have kept the Halifax Class frigate relevant. Most armed forces programs have tech that is decades old and still going strong. The B52 was designed in the 50's. I am sure they are not calculating speed with their watches anymore 🤞
Can I join if I didn’t went to school, I’m in Toronto, healthy man ready to start!
If only I could be optimistic.
Have they reclassified our Type 26 variant a destroyer now? Serious question.
Naming conventions of destroyer frigate and cruisers are obsolete. A relic of WW2. Type 26 is comparable to a light cruiser from WW2. Its a multi mission platform. Command and communication capabilities of a crusier. Size of a destroyer. And ASW specialized like a frigate. Its displacement is similar to a US Ticonderoga Class, and that is a cruiser Hell, if we put drones on board, it is all so an aircraft carrier by WW2 definitions.
Sounds like a lot of PR. Let’s be honest, it will be cancelled mid program with cost overruns in the billions.
I’m assuming they are cut some slack as they are nervous kids…. The RCN is trying to get young people interested in the Navy. Why would they jump all over them when they technically haven’t joined? Good luck guys!
By the time they are delivered, WW3 will be over.
Due to arrive in 2075
We need badly to upgrade naval armaments on both Kingston & DeWolfe class littoral fleet. So these Type 26 can go blue water missions with impunity. If we did this NATO ministers would somewhat soften thier attitude to Canada.
Her voice reminds me of Kamala Harris’s voice.
The UK is calling the type 26 a “City” class, so that’s not confusing. And “River” class seems like an odd choice for bluewater ships which are unlikely to sail any rivers. I get that it’s about picking a series of names, but why not just name the class after the first in the series and avoid the implication they are riverboats. Also, isn’t the type 26 considered to be a frigate, not a destroyer? Admittedly it’s big for a frigate, but it’s small for a destroyer. Some sources have been calling it a superfrigate. It’s similar in size to the US Constellation class frigate.
Each nation that bought the Type 26 design has modified it for their needs. . So, just like all four door cars are considered sedan/ saloons. But a Chevy will be equipped differently than a Kia. Each manufacturer of the Type 26 design will give it a Class ( model ) designation. UK is City Class, Austrailia is Hunter Class, Canada is River Class. The Constellation Class is based on the FREMM design and then altered for the USA's needs. The specific reason for "River Class" for Canada is paying tribute to the Canadian WW2 River Class destroyers. Frigate , destroyer, and cruiser classifications are a WW2 convention. Based on speed, armor, weapons, and roles. The Type 26 can be compared to a WW2 cruisers in command and communication capabilities. A destroyer in size and a frigate in speed. The US Ticonderoga is listed as a cruiser and has the similar displacement as a Type 26. So the "rules" for if a ship is a cruiser, destroyer or frigate comes down to what job it does. And as the Type 26 is a multi mission platform or global combat ship as the UK puts it. Its neither a true frigate, cruiser or destroyer. I think it is designed for battle. So lets call it a battleship 😉
Love the names. Now we need our young Canadians to join and take up a fantastic opportunity to see the world and have a great career too. Sigh if only I was 20 again.
Don't all get excited now. NO contracts have been signed. Any order books in the future are usually cut per Canadian politics.
yup as the PP government will do
Well it looks like ower top general begin on his hands and knees for air defense atully did some good, and this wasn't expected but vary welcome given the targets nato is expected to defend against
World's Angriest Supply Boat? Memes aside, the AOPS seem to be good multi role vessels for supporting the rest of the fleet.
This is a "good" start. Now you still need a Command Cruiser or two per coast as well as a small fleet of AB type destroyers and Canada will be half respectable. It was/is embarrassing as a retired service member to watch a rusted out Canadian tug boat join American Battlegroups.
Talks about canadian rivers.....shows the American side of niagara falls 🤦♂️
How does a frigate get turned into a destroyer?
The new ships will have more fire power and abilities with up graded systems, the new destroyers will be larger than the current frigates and also the retired 4 destroyers.according Nato standards they are destroyers.
@@tilaman3 larger but not by much 148m compared to 151
@@commodorce6431 the Halifax frigates are 134 meters and the retired destroyers are 129 meters compared to the new destroyers at 151 meters the new destroyers will have more advanced weapons and capabilities compared to what Australia and England are building that's why they are destroyers not frigates according to NATO, there are articles about why they are classified as destroyers you can read. PS The new ships will be heavier than both the old destroyers and frigates
@@tilaman3 heavier by about 300 tons but okay, still…pretty light for a destoyer
@@commodorce6431 I agree but I think it's because it will have the capability greater than a frigate.
It also should be noted that for such a big ship it is quite weakly armed. What a missed opportunity!! 😢
