  • On February 18th, 1942, the USS Pollux and USS Truxtun ran aground on the jagged rocks off Newfoundland's south coast in a ferocious winter storm. Of the 389 men on board the two vessels, 203 died. The disaster is considered one of the worst in American naval history.
In July 2023, Clearance Divers from Fleet Diving Unit (Atlantic) worked alongside Port Inspection Divers from HMCS Cabot to discover more than a dozen 227kg bombs and numerous artillery projectiles in the wrecks of two Second World War US Navy ships lying off the coast of Newfoundland.
    This is their story.
