Hey Diamond! love the hair. I really enjoyed this video. I find that your books have substance and the way you summarize them makes me want to grab them. I have seen Abby Jimenez circulating a lot in the booktube world for sure. The book by Amia Srinivasan sounds inspiring and as you said, a book that one must have on their shelves. Always a great time watching your content. (Also congratulations on your new career! )☺

Girl you already know I’m in here to talk about Authority 😂 (warning, spoilers below) Okay! I have thoughts again!!! To be led through this questioning and to be employed to learn about the Area X, then for Area X to essentially be pulling the strings? What!? So was this concept of “authority” discussing the layers of what is essentially self reflection of area x on area x? This entire concept of authority and power. I finished this trilogy and I still can’t put together my thoughts about the relationship of Control with his family. That doesn’t bleed into the last book AT ALL for it to be such a heavy string puller here. The last book was HARD for me to work through. I had to take it in chunks. But at the end I gave stars for how I can see it sticking with me for a long time. I love Ishiguro. The writing style is perfect. There is a bluntness to it that has almost hazy edges. Love. Never Let Me Go was a purchase for me. My hold list at the Library is so unhinged. It’s a love hate with you coming back 😭 I can’t take my tbr growing like this 😭😭😭

So glad you’re back!! And so glad that you can take the time for yourself rather than pushing through all for content. I read this one! And I am not a fan of Abby J! But romance for me is just like you said; a “palette cleanser”. The romantic in me is always going to pick one up and I am ALWAYS gonna have some kind of beef. This one I did not like the prevalence of male validation and self sexualization that were presented as the main points of healing. At the same time, I sometimes have to tell myself to stop being such a hater and just enjoy the dang book.

I read this book last week and loved it. I read Yours Truly last year (loved it much more!) and right after reading Part of Your World, I started Just For The Summer which is her newest book, and finished it yesterday. As someone who doesn’t dive into romance books too much (hate sex scenes) I’m hooked on her writing! Highlyyy recommend Just For The Summer but they’re all interconnected so I would suggest reading Yours Truly next (that’s her friend Bri’s story) and then Just For The Summer last, it’ll make more sense and tie together. That’s if you continue your romance era lol ❤

Missed your videos! I feel the same way about romances. I’m too much of a cynical realist. Hence why I am a litfic girl. I have a hard time buying into things that would never happen in real life, it feels like reading fantasy lol you also made me realise my ex boyfriend was emotionally abusive and mean. Didn’t care to know about my culture either. Just disrespectful. He once made a “joke” about me being a slave for a house. He said it so casually in the car which made it even more jarring and disturbing. Put me off white men forever. He was such a manipulative POS. Sorry for the rant 😅 But yeah I avoid romance like the plague now 😂

I’m still on hold for Several Months for this book. I am cracking up at how you pronounced her last name 🤣🤣🤣. It’s Spanish so their “JA” is pronounced like “HA”. I don’t do overwhelming smut! I know how to do it , and don’t want to read it.

I really enjoyed Part of Your World. I think Abby Jimenez writes great book boyfriends. They’re always sensitive and vulnerable and just not what real boyfriends are like so I enjoy that aspect of her writing. I would say that Part of Your World is my favorite book from her. I’ve read maybe four other books by her and this one is definitely my favorite.

You’re the first person who has actually made me want to read Crossroads, I’ve always been a bit unsure of Franzen and if I’d like him. I think you’ve sold me on him.

Ooh, I read and loved the Shipping News about 10 years ago when i was doing a journalism qualification. I loved it but I barely remember anything about it. I am loving this video and update on ny lunch break! Im pregnant and can only seem to do audiobooks at the moment... I am so excited for you entering a new phase in life and coming into a job that serves you a bit better! It’s always so hard being at this age and still feeling like you don’t have a grasp on these routines, career, and hobbies. Girl. I get it. It’s hard. I’m also on a running journey! I ran in college but recently have become one of the gym bros that is super strong but can’t run a nonstop mile! And I liked the balance of personal life and book chats in this vlog. I think the way vandermeer nurtured that feeling while also never quite showing us anything was so ingenious. This “fear” was curated with a slow descent, or a strange noise, and essentially around an unknown. I was so scared of what was always just out of reach. Like I existed on the cusp of actual terror and the anxiety before it-which was so interesting to feel the levels of just being scared and the author holding these things out of my actual eye sight. A blindspot. Okay, my thoughts on “restriction” .yesyesyestetssss. Okay, I want to take that idea further-word dump style: The outside powers that lead to self restriction and self expectation. Another feeling of this unknown. These internal drives having an outside power-an outside “enforcer”. Or oppositely, the outside results from internal pressures. Very chicken and the egg. Sit on that thought of “restriction” through Authority. This feeling of expectations, being herded, power, influence, internal stressors, etc. A very different way of experiencing “fear” and “unknown”. Did you think about the intention behind the composition of this expedition? The women? I saw a lot in Reddit boards discussing it.
