✨📚✨Hi Diamond. I’m so happy my suggestion to listen to it with Ruby Dee as the narrator worked out. For me, she along with Mother Zora’s writing really brought the story to life.
Speaking of life…I’m so glad your analysis had you remember the time in which the book was written & the circumstances of her conception & upbringing. Life back then was tough. My parents were born in the late 1920s & the relationships I saw my aunts & uncles involved in (I was born in the early 60s) would blow your hair back. Remember we didn’t go to therapy then, we went to church & most of what people were taught was filled with misogyny. There was tons of stories like Janie where they tried to eke out what little happiness they could find even if they lied to themselves. It’s definitely a 5🌟 read in my eyes as well. Blessings.✨📚✨

Im actually in the middle of watching a documentary here on youtube regarding Ms. Hurston. You should try it out. It's on American Experience PBS titled Zora Neale Hurston: Claiming A Space
@@jadeddiamonds9983 thanks. I will find & do just that. I’m currently reading Caste by Isabel Wilkerson. It’s a very good non-fiction read about the invisible yet very real caste system here in the US & I believe she’s going to explain how it happened.
