It's so good right! The dialect in the writing was ahead of its time and you take such a powerful journey with the main character. Thank you for watching and commenting my love! I love you too!

I saw the movie and the idea of this book about women coming Into her power despite patriarchy and misogynistic society appeals to me so I have to read it

Wonderful review! I have read this book many times. Zora Neale Hurston captures dialect of Southern Blacks during that time period like no other. Every time I read it I am more inspired by Janie's power.

It's not that the movie was bad, it was just lacking compared to the book. It lacks the dialect. And why did they change Tea Cake's willingness to marry her? I don't see this book about having it all - Janie preferred Tea Cake and life on the muck, being poor and being loved over a position in town as the mayor's wife, being richer, and having all the social expectations but lacking love.

The movie was beautiful to watch. It had beautiful people and the setting was nice to observe, but it did the book absolutely NO justice. No shade. The actors worked well with what little they had to work with. The movie made it seem as though the story was a love story between Jaine and Teacake, but the book is clear that it was Jaine's story. So beautifully and respectfully written. Interesting peripheral characters who were more than just nosey neighbors and one-note men, as the movie somewhat portrayed them.
