We on that road to 1.k Iâm happy for u your channel growth is going up nothing but blessings in positivity âźïžâš
Diamond.đ First off let me say that everything you said was like hearing myself talk. From the books you choose to the feelings that they have risen out of you, I am right there with you. I wanted to give you a hug and be like girl, I feel you. I am about to have my wrap up video, and let me tell you, it is heavy. đą So please self-care and mental health should prevail in this crazy world we're navigating. I can say a lot but just know that just as you are now wondering how you can impact the world knowing what our ancestors went through, I, also am on that path.đ With time and whispers from our ancestors, we shall discover our true purpose indeed. I enjoyed this video a lot!
It sounds like weâre kindred spirits. đ€ let me go and and check that wrap up out, Iâll be filming mines tomorrow. Hopefully I can have it up by tomorrow. Iâm glad to see weâre on the same path, I have to catch up on your content girl, just by reading this message you sound like such an amazing person. Iâm glad youâre here! And I wonât be a stranger if you wonât đ€đŸ
You are not alone, I know exactly what you mean. I just finished Native Son by Richard Wright and I'm feeling good on my dose of classic black author books right now.
Oh yes Native Son is something else. Mixed reviews on it for sure but I understand what Richard Wright was saying. Thatâs a hard book. I have to say, reading black authors has me perplexed on the struggle that I so unconsciously noticed moving around in my daily life. Itâs like Iâve had rose covered glasses on, walking blind. Iâll pray about it but girl, Iâve been feeling really down lately, just from the reading.
I finished The Woman in White this month and have been alternating spinning wool, crochet, and The Midnight Library (its so good so far), and rewatching Star Trek Discovery before the new season starts in April. I also picked up Well Read Black Girl from the library and am enjoying it.
Sounds awesome, my daughter is showing interest in crocheting, idk where to start. I was thinking about finding her a class to maybe try. I havenât read any Wilkie Collins but Iâve been meaning to get to him.
Historical or socially conscious books always leave me with a wealth of complex emotions. I had to take break from them, so I completely understand. I think itâs better on your mental to digest those books in small doses. They are informative and thought-provoking yet emotionally taxing. Now, that fantasy book sounds interesting, giving medieval vibes. Iâm going to check that one out.
Yes! I have been delving deeper into books discussing social issues since 2020 and when I tell you my mindset surrounding race has shifted. And that wasnât even my intention, but itâs hard to walk away from these books unaffected. I am trying to find a balance now because I donât want to be too jaded.
I totally agree. I wish I would have had this advice going into. Itâs my first serious nonfiction dealing with racism in America. Very tough. Oh yes, Assassins Apprentice has really grown on me. It was written in the 90âs so it has an old school flare I quite like. If you check it out let me know.
You took the words out of my mouth. This is exactly how I feel! Completely changed and altered.
Iâm very much looking forward to Caste and I know itâll take me forever. I loved her previous book, The Warmth of Other Suns but Caste is a whole different kinda of nonfiction lol. You make me want to pick back up Assassins Apprentice because I DNFâd halfway through because nothing was happening.
How was the reading process for A Warmth of Other Suns? I own that one. I maybe should have started there đ©
Assassins Apprentice is slow but girl it is right on time right now lol Iâll tell you that.
@@jadeddiamonds9983 It is narrative nonfiction so itâs MUCH easier to read because it reads like fiction. She gives us actual real people to follow their journey in regards to the Great Migration.
I am slowly working my way through Caste. I read a little and think a lot, then switch to something light. I also love Warmth of Other Suns.
I'm only on Chapter 7 of Caste. I'm going to try to read more tonight. I just finished The First Ladies, easier to read but also made me think of the systemic issues we have battled as African Americans.
Glad i discovered your channel because i like to read too. I thought i was the only one that read more than one book at a time. I'm reading "cast", slavery by another name, may we stand forever, alabama vs king, the new jim crow." Ive also been reading books on black history this month too.
The Death of Vivek Oji is a lot. I got up to 50% last year and have not gone back to it since. I really want to because itâs well written but one thing about Akwaeke, she is going to push past boundaries in her books and you have to be ready for them. So I have to mentally prepare myself to get back to that book.
I am so glad I am not alone. I really tried to push myself to finish but Caste got my mind all types of messed up right now đ€đ. Iâm with you, Iâll have to try it again soon. I need a break.
So glad that you are finding solace in Assassin's Apprentice whilst still trying to get through Caste. It sounds like a very heavy read.. But deffo an important one. Not sure I could handle the heaviness of it personally, so props to you đ
Little side note.. I always enjoy how articulate you are. You're becoming a favourite of mine on booktube and a go-to for a familiar yet cosy watch đ
Really hope you keep pacing out the reading of Caste.. Sounds like you like you're making good choices!
Talk soon
Oh I loved it!!! Just purchased the second installment. Iâm sooo glad I stuck with it. You were right for it to be you favorite. I remember you saying that. Aww thank you so much for being so kind! It really means a lot to me. Iâm so glad youâre here! đ€
@@jadeddiamonds9983 You're so welcome!! Royal Assassin is excellent too. If you ever want to chat about it lemme know.
Aww thank you đ I'm super happy to be here. Thanks for replying đ
I just finished Grown by Tiffanyâs Jackson a few days ago. It was a suspenseful read with a relevant story line of statutory rape and manipulation by the hands of an older man with an underage girl. The dual timeline structure intertwining past and present provided enhanced the suspense and thrill along with the narrative flow. Iâm about to start Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez. Iâm buddy reading it with a friend. We will meet in a couple of weeks for brunch to discuss it.
Oh that sounds cool. I must say, Iâm not a big thriller reader, not because I donât like it, I just donât gravitate there just yet. However, I did by the new Jessica Knoll book. Itâs a thriller I believe. Looking forward to it. Sounds great on the buddy read situation, I have never done one but Iâm definitely interested in the near future.
Reading heavy and informative books by Black authors is important, but Iâm on a mission to find and read more fun and adventurous fantasy/sci-fi books by Black authors. Most recently, I just started Bones to the Wind by Tatiana Obey
It is interesting to hear your perspective and how Caste is impacting you. I was born in the late 50s, grew up in the 60s and 70s, experienced segregation and integration. Closing of our neighborhood schools. Busing across town. Books labeled Colored library. Separate seating in the theaters. Saw the marches and water hoses and police dogs and batons trained on Black people. All the assassinations of so many from presidents to pastors to activists. Live, in black and white and later in color. Not the only or even the smartest AA, but the only one in my accelerated classes. Accepted to Rice. Graduated with an engineering degree. Worked with all types of people. All in my lifetime. It wasn't that long ago.
yea its a really tough book for me. Have you read Caste? Wow you lived through a lot.
@jadeddiamonds9983 reading it now very slowly
