I tried to read Beloved. I got through about 1/3 and it was just the wrong time I think. Life got heavy and I needed a lighter-hearted book lol But it is so good and I'll get back to it. Toni Morrison narrating her own audiobooks... is perfect ✨✨

I haven’t read Beloved yet. I watched the movie over the weekend and it made me want to read the book more. I have noticed as well that their is a lack of detail when it comes to Toni Morrison’s novel. So far I’ve only read Sula and as I was reading I felt that while the book is a short read there are so many themes that are within the book that are addressed that most reviewers don’t address. It made me feel as if they were either just doing a half assed review or that they didn’t dig beneath the surface. That disappointed me as a reader. Although that is currently my only experience reading her novels I appreciate that she gives nuance to her characters. I appreciate her for creating stories that demonstrate character development
Sula was my jam and to your point, also, i haven't heard anyone unpack what that book truly is. I honestly feel that Toni Morrison flies over readers' heads. It can easily happen as I had to read small amounts at a time myself. But I really wanted to expand my thinking and really get to the meaning of her work. It takes a person who "to me" cares about the black experience enough to really understand or try to understand her style. Thanks for being here and watching! Don't be a stranger ok!
@@jadeddiamonds9983 I won’t be! I appreciate you for actually taking the time to unpack. It took me 5 days to read Sula. It’s the first book that I annotated. I think annotatations has helped me dig deeper for nuances.
Thank you so much for this revisit to “Beloved”. Thing is I had no idea it was a book. I can recall snippets on my memory from watching the movie at 15 yrs old and I have so moved by it then.
