"I 😊have no reason to lie." 😂 you're so funny. I love classics! So, glad you included some in your lineup. When you say, "gorgeous writing" I go yep, Gotta Read That. Many of these sound interesting especially The Corrections and Cold Mtn.

Yes the Idiot was amazing when I was reading it. The writing, stunning! Also, I’m excited about The Corrections as well. If you read any of these do let me know as I would love to chat about them with you.

Circe is a slow read but I really enjoyed it. It stayed with me more than I thought since reading it in 2019.

The slowness may be why I didn’t get on with it when I first bought it. I’m determined this year to stick with it. Thanks for the comment, I’ll keep that in mind.

I have read the Gilead books. Enjoyed them. BUT, . . . I shifted into the audiobook format when I began having difficulty focusing. They are a "slow roll". I think I crocheted an afghan while reading them.
"Circe", read it. Enjoyed it and "Song of Achilles" very much.
"The Idiot" and ANY Classic book that is "a struggle" to read, . . . get the audiobook. The Classics were written in a different style and in a no longer used speech patterns that are very difficult for our eyes to decode. That means we lose all our sight words and are forced to "read" each word. Our ears are not so limited. We understand with a much higher comprehension level than we are capable of reading at.
Libby and Guttenberg give you free access to audiobooks and books in general.

Thanks for your wonderful advice, I do have an Everand account as I love audio books. I definitely intended on using audio for the idiot.

    Hi .., cool video.
    Thanks !
    Onto books…
They say the Pevear/Volokhonsky translation of the Idiot is the best one. I loved The Corrections. I’m eager to read his recent novel, Crossroads. Gilead has a special place in my heart. Just Kids was a great read.
As for black authors, you may wanna check out the very intense Native Son by Richard Wright, Beloved by Toni Morrison, Another Country (a less weighty story, but still impactful) by James Baldwin. & a very solid story with solid characters is The Known World by Edward P. Jones. Right now I’m loving the propulsive The Bee Sting by Paul Murray… & I’m finding Solenoid to be rather nauseating, yet at the same time I wanna keep reading cuz I have a feeling that the story’s loose threads will knit together near the end.
    Have a good day ..,

Ahh Crossroads, I remember when everyone was reading that back in 2022.. I'm interested in that book as well. Also, I'm really intrigued by Solenoid, would love to hear your full thoughts when you finish it.
